The Positive Pit Project The Positive Pit Project provides dog training with a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) With these programs we are saving two lives at once.

Lake Charles Pit Bull Rescue and The Positive Pit Project provide service dogs to veterans suffering from PTSD. All of our dogs are “rescued” dogs, which are defined as “pulled” from a shelter or saved from a bad situation. Our dogs are provided to the veteran as a donation, with all costs covered by us and/or a sponsor for the dog/veteran. We also provide training for any dog regardless of breed,

and their family. Training can be done in your home, out in the community, or we also have a board and train option. Regular boarding is available for holidays and summer months. Boarding is done in our home in Iowa, Louisiana. Our trainer Megan Manuel is a CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Knowledge Assessed) and an AKC Evaluator.

I have a very rare opening for special needs boarding! Special needs boarding is for dogs that do not do well in typical boarding environments or may need to be completely separate from other dogs. I started special needs boarding to help families keep their dogs without having to worry about what they’ll do for vacation time, kids’ activities, etc. If you feel trapped at home , this service is for you and I’d love to talk to you about it.

I really enjoy working with doodles and their families. This is Henry. Like so many of his doodle friends, Henry needs a little help with impulse control. His family has done an excellent job with his basic cues, and even a few cool tricks. They also have a great schedule and structure for him, so we’re just refining a few things so he can be his best self.

When you’ve been taught to potty on cue, but the environment has drastically changed. You debate, but then go ahead and squat knowing the reward had better be high value.

Let me tell you about the dog that this is for. She was found in a ditch by a family that really weren’t dog people, but also weren’t 100% opposed to the idea. I can remember the first panicked phone call when I set up the first session. We are SOOOOO far from where we were on Day 1.
We believe in defying the odds, and we definitely did it here.

Meet Herman. He’s one of the dogs I talked about last weekend in our newly blended family. Herman and his new sisters and brother, had a very successful session today. The dogs had some good relaxed interaction while I talked with the pet parent about body language so they understand all of the dogs better.

When you’re done with your lesson and ready for dinner. Rocky is doing in home training, which is super beneficial because we get to work on real every day things to make life easier for people and dogs. Every member of the family can participate, even kids. This is where my teaching experience comes in handy! Rocky can’t wait to update everyone on his progress.

Let’s talk board and train:
Sometimes board and train is the best option for families for many valid reasons. It’s very important to know exactly where you’re leaving your dog. During your dog’s stay at PPP, they will be inside my home learning how to dog during day to day life. This is why space is so limited and sometimes I have to waitlist for longer than I’d like. Solution to that coming soon! Here is Athena, one of my current board and trains giving me some loving. Today, Athena is adding some enrichment games to her toolkit. She’s part Heeler, so we want to channel some of her natural behaviors into less destructive options.

Just a very tiny snippet of the end of our 2024. Thank you for welcoming me into your homes, and allowing me to welcome your precious fur babies into mine. I’m starting 2025 with two service dog teams that will hit the road soon, and some really cool things in the works.

The MVP of 2024 goes to our dear friends at Pawsitivity Grooming LLC. Thank you for lifting me up, greeting me with a smile when my “mom bus” is late with a grooming dog, setting high standards for care and quality, and not being amazing.

I’ve been super busy with dogs coming in and out. Henri came to visit us for regular boarding (and got a little skills brush up of course). Don’t forget, I can do a gift certificates and advance bookings for anyone who might’ve added a new furry family member.

Many people think having a service dog is not attainable due to cost. It doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. In this case, the handler had a dog that was already performing some tasks, so we created a training plan together to be cost effective but not sacrificing any quality. Whether you don’t know where to start, or you’ve self trained and are now stuck, let’s talk. I never charge for phone calls or initial consults involving service dogs.
