Last night Copper scared me. He is not a dragon to black beard even when he isn’t feeling well, so last night when he black bearded it worried me. I took him outside to get some natural UVB and relax, nope that did not work. So I put him in the “safe” room to explore, nope again. I decided to rub his belly and that was a big NO. He opened his mouth and got even deeper black. So I decided to give him some space. Last resort, I put him in the bath. After about 15 minutes soaking he finally pooped. I realized the urate was rock hard. I will be giving him some horn worms to help hydrate even though I offer him a bowl of water and water from a syringe daily on top of spritzing down his salad. He is doing well today, just hanging out doing what he does best.

Tomorrow my sweet boy, Copper, goes to get his teeth cleaned and one may need to be extracted. The reason his teeth are decaying is due to his refusal to eat a normal bearded dragon diet for 8 months. I had to syringe feed him Oxbow Carnivore Care. I am a little nervous for him to go under general anesthesia again (last year he had liver masses removed). Praying he makes it and his mouth is as good as new.

“Give them a natural substrate”, they said. “It’s enrichment for them”, they said. “They will love to dig and explore”, they said.
Well, apparently I have a broken dragon, because Kaida said, “I hate the stuff, get me outta here! What are you trying to do kill me? Get me out, get me out get me out NOW!” So now we are back to paper towel and he has stopped black bearding and glass surfing. 😞

So many beautiful animals at the reptile show in Greenville yesterday. Almost came home with a baby bearded dragon. I put my hand in the bin they were in and one of the babies ran up and sat right on my hand! It was SO hard to leave the cute lil’ bu**er behind!

I see so many reptiles being rescued. What , in your opinion, is the reason? Why do people get them and then not take care of them or get help when the animal is in need? This is a conversation starter not a bash session. Please be respectful. Picture of my bearded dragon, Copper, who was re-homed when his people traveled a lot for work.
