It's time for our daily post to share a story as we celebrate 15 years of saving blind and visually impaired dogs!
Pictured below are Chewie and Barney. ❤ Sadly, Barney passed in 2019 and Chewie in 2020, but they will always be remembered. Their mom writes, "Two of my rescues from Blind Dog Rescue. Chew did not like Barney at all, unless we were gone, then he attached himself to the nearest dog, this day it happened to be Barney. Chewie was my “arm Candy” for about 5 years. Barney, walked so well on a leash with two of my sighted dogs. He knew “step up” and “look out”, amazing dogs."
We've been rescuing blind/visually impaired dogs in need since August 2009, and since then, we've saved more than 900 dogs! Please help us celebrate by donating, commenting on our posts, or sharing. To donate, please go to https://blinddogrescue.org/donate-1. Every donation, no matter the size, is greatly appreciated! We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group and donations are tax deductible. We are so very thankful to all of our supporters!

"When my pup went blind from a spinal infection that spread to his eyes we were devastated. He, however, was not. He remained his happy self and inspired me with his resilience. Once we got the spinal infection under control I simply googled rescues to work with and found BDRA. Blindness is different but it’s not worse. I do this in his honor to help other pups find loving homes where they can inspire their families and receive the love they deserve". ❤
People volunteer for us for many reasons, and no matter the reason, we'd love to have you join us! Bo's adoption update!
Bo was adopted in July 2013 and he's doing well. ❤ He still loves his walks! His family shared this update and pictures: "Bo still seems like a youngster. All the labs the vet checks are within normal range. He still watches out the window to bark at anyone walking by, has a robust appetite, & is a big fan of walks. I enjoy him every day."

It's time for our daily post to share a story as we celebrate 15 years of saving blind and visually impaired dogs! ❤
Pictured below are Leo (terrier mix) and Maria (chihuahua). They came to us in 2012 from an animal hospice that was closing. Leo, blind and deaf, was 16 1/2, and Maria, blind, was 15. Both also had other health issues. We thought they'd be here for only a few months, but they sure proved us wrong! Leo, especially, had a zest for life and had adventure after adventure in his foster home. Both have since passed (we had the pleasure of Leo for more than a year and Maria for a bit less than a year), but they will be forever in our hearts.

Isla Blue's adoption update!
Isla Blue was adopted in July 2022 and she just turned two in May! ❤ Her family shared this update and pictures: "Our Isla Blue is doing so well. She is sweet, cuddly, and loves being with her family. She looks forward to 3 upcoming beach vacations this summer and loves going on walks to meet other pups there. She just turned 2 in May and we are so happy she is ours."

It's time for our daily post to share a story as we celebrate 15 years of saving blind and visually impaired dogs!
Pictured below is Taz. Taz was adopted in October 2020 at 15 years old, and sadly, he passed in August 2021. His mom will always remember him. She writes, "Taz was a blind Cairn Terrier. An outstanding breed. He was a really good dog. Don’t know anything about his past, but he was happiest in the house. He had the pickiest fur, because of my intrigue with his tail and personality, I eventually acquired a Cairn Terrier pup."

Happy 15th anniversary, BDRA! It's time for our daily post to share a story!
Pictured below is Tuffy, blind and diabetic, who came to us way back in 2011. Tuffy was adopted by his foster family not long after he came in, but sadly, he passed in 2012 and we only had a year with him. Tuffy was not only his foster mom's first BDRA foster, but also her first diabetic dog. Since then, in honor of Tuffy, she's had two other diabetic dogs, and will always remember all that Tuffy taught. He is still thought of every day. ❤

Bree enjoys "watching" TV and will bark if she hears a dog on the screen. She's happy to sit on your lap or next to you as you relax, and she also loves squeaky toys! Emma Jean's adoption update!
Emma Jean was adopted in July 2022 and she's doing well. She loves her wading pool! ❤ Her family shared this update and pictures: "Emma Jean is doing great! She has really matured over the past year, and she’s tuning in to our cues and is just so smart. She’s still only got one speed (TURBO!), but we love her enthusiasm for life and energy. She is the sweetest girl. She has also decided she likes the wading pool…and goes in on her own now."

Pictured below is Jack, and he's looking for his adoptive home! Jack is a 7 1/2 year old (estimated) poodle mix who loves to cuddle, and his foster mom says he jumps up and down like a bunny when he's happy. 🙂 Jack believes that love knows no boundaries and greets every opportunity to make new friends with enthusiasm. ❤ He can't wait to find his forever family! Jack is completely blind and receives once daily eye drops. He will need yearly follow up visits with an ophthalmologist.

UPDATE: Kimmy is out of surgery and did well! Thank you to all for keeping her in your thoughts.

Please keep our little foster Kimmy in your thoughts and prayers for her spay and cherry eye surgery today. Here she is wrapped in her prayer blanket, made especially for her by Sue Malicki and the wonderful people with Fur Angel Blessing Blanketeers. They sent a very sweet care package to Kimmy's foster mom before she even arrived, that included the blanket, a toy, a card with a sweet message and 2 angel collar charms. All of these things will follow her to her adoptive home. ❤

Louisiana's adoption update!
Louisiana was adopted in July 2021. Last year she was having eating troubles but is doing fine now! ❤ Her family shared this update and picture: "Weezie (Louisiana) is doing great. I saw that I was telling you last year that she wasn't eating well, but she's pretty much overcome that. There's a particular kind of food she loves, so she gets that most of the time. I say most only because she tends to get tired of the same thing, so we have to vary her meals a little. Life's been mostly uneventful (knock on wood!) which is a good thing, of course. I'm so grateful to you for saving her. She's got a feisty little personality, but now that she's comfortable with us, she's really such a sweetheart! Thanks again for keeping an interest in her."

"I have been a volunteer with BDRA for about 8 years now. I adopted a little blind poodle named Papi, who I renamed, Noah. I was so impressed with the kindness and professionalism of the volunteers throughout that process, as well as them putting the interest of the dogs first, that I knew I wanted to be a part of the organization." ❤️

As you may know, we have had to go on a temporary intake freeze. This is because the funds we have in our account have gotten too low to accept new dogs. We hope our intake freeze is very temporary.
Can you help BDRA by giving as little as $5 to our giving grid, to support our current and future rescues? When you donate, you can leave a photo of your pet for all to see! Please click here to donate and see the photos: https://www.givinggrid.com/blinddogsseewiththerehearts

Rina was adopted in July 2011 and she's doing well. She loves riding in the truck, camping, and hiking, and she came in third place in a costume event! ❤ Her family shared this update and pictures: "Rina is doing very well. She did have teeth issues and all but 2 were removed. But she is Happy, loving life, rides in the truck, camping, hiking 🐾🩷 and she came in 3rd at a costume event."
