This is my first new student of the new year, Raven, a 1'ish year old Pit mix. Raven was a stray and is now in a foster home prepping for her new forever home. Of course do to being alone on the streets, Raven has a bit of anxiety, especially when out away from the home. The key to working with a dog with anxiety and low confidence, is to go slow. The outside world was a scary place for Raven, and we need to respect that. We want to take quick trips with lots of treats. The most important thing to do is end the outing before her stress level rises. If going out always leads to anxiety then that's what going out is. But if going out means treats, treats, treats and then going home... That's what outings mean. It's all about changing the emotional state. Raven is learning that she will be alone on the streets nevermore.
