Over the past two weeks I've had the privilege of working closely with two of the worlds "Greats": Ana Forrest and Joerg Meunzner. They both taught me the same thing: the importance of connection. Connection with my Spirit and connection with my Horse. Go back to basics and feel for the integrity of your connection with what is most meaningful in the moment.

I'm always asked: "What is Forrest Yoga?". Forrest Yoga is meant to be experienced and not described, but here's an answer I gave a student today...

Forrest Yoga is different then most other yoga styles in many ways... The sequencing is uniquely intelligent with each pose leading up to the next making it a hurt free (for those of us that have learned to stop hurting ourselves) system that addresses the needs of our bodies in the modern world. The poses/sequencing are designed to tap into the key postural areas of the body to re-train the way you move your body, live your life, relate to yourself/world, as well as BREATHE when your on and off the mat. Physiologically speaking, each class is a process that starts with poses to calm the nervous system in order to get the body in healing mode... then, once the body has let it's guard down a little, we reverently and efficiently get to work with poses that can dig deep into the body/psyche to help release as much of the emotional/mental/physical and literal s**t we hold in our body as is possible... after this 'excavation', the poses then re-organize and re-package us back together so we can leave our mat feeling strong and spaceous instead of spaced-out and tweaky. It's a chellenging and fun practice with, deep ujjayi breathing, intense core work, inversions, and long held poses... we essentially use the practice to 'cook' the tissues of our body in order re-map the nervous system. Sounds like fun, eh!? More then anything the practice is the best medicine I've ever had because it teaches/reminds me how to focus on choosing joy and absorb that joy into all parts of me.

Sami Kapela Jackson resides in Ball Ground, Georgia USA and is a recent graduate of Galloping Yoga's Level 1 Certification. Read up on all the great Equine related Yoga adventures Sami is a part of...

Sami Jackson is a Yoga Alliance registered yoga teacher. She has been practicing yoga since 2003. In July 2008 she received her 200 hour level teacher training certificate from The Sierra Center for Yoga Studies. She studied under Bhavani Girard and Richard Valdez. In May 2013 she received her teacher certification for the Galloping Yoga equestrian program with Louise Cameron.

Valuing the positive changes in her life that yoga has made, Sami strives to seek avenues to make yoga affordable to all populations.

She continues to develop her teaching skills and knowledge of the practice by attending workshops and conferences given by renowned teachers including Sherri Baptiste, Beth Shaw, and Gary Kraftsow. She has completed teacher training workshops for at risk youth and adult populations with Hala Kouri, M.A., E-RYT; restorative yoga with Judith Hanson-Lasater, Ph.D., PT; and Yin-Yoga with Joe Barnett, master student of Paul Grilley. Sami enjoys working with the youth and has introduced yoga to K-2nd grade students through after school programs; Boy Scout Troops; and youth groups. Currently teaching 6 weekly hatha yoga classes out of her home studio, she hopes to launch an 8 week yoga series geared toward the Equestrian Riding community as well as offering mini workshops on Yin-Yoga; Introduction to Yoga & Meditation workshops; and "Lake Yoga" a mini day retreat with her friend Jill where yoga, and other healthy lifestyle choices will be discussed.
