Hoopers!
Training Teg For Hoopers!
With Teg sustaining an small ligament injury at the back end of last year due to slipping in the mud, I am always now fully aware she may have a certain degree of weakness in that leg which at any moment could flair up again, especially so when doing Agility training.
The continual jumping & twisting of Agility - even at a low height, will eventually find any weakness out & the risk of re-injuring herself again is high
But I didn’t want to stop Agility training all together as this little dog LOVES nothing more than to run, jump & weave around a course.
So, I decided to teach Teg ‘Hoopers’, which is the fastest growing canine sport in the UK at the moment. Hoopers courses has no jumps, weave poles or contact elements, but instead are made up of ‘hoopers’ which the dog runs under, plus tunnels, contact mats & barrels to run around , & the courses are designed for more sweeping turns instead of tight, twisting ones - But it still maintains all the fun , pace, excitement & technical difficulty as Agility.
So, having set up a little beginners course, you can see Teg loves it! ❤️ Plus there’s no risk of her being injured as it’s all on one level. - which is always a bonus!
My sister’s dog, rescue collie Cadi who is approx 12 - although still very active, has been diagnosed with spondylitis of the spine, so any form of jumping, weaving & contact elements are out of the question now, but Cadi still loves to learn new things (yes an old dog can learn new tricks if taught properly, carefully & mindful of any physical limitations!) so she is now in the early stages of learning hoopers!
Watch this space for a sneak peek of Cadi & her hoopers debut!

Heather & Ziggy
Having SO much fun with these 2!
Super talented Sprollie ‘Ziggy’ & his lovely owner Heather practicing over a small course.
Although still relatively young & a lot to learn, Ziggy is showing huge potential as an Agility dog & continues to improve week by week.
As you can see he absolutely loves his Agility, & with some more training, Heather is hoping to compete Ziggy in the future.
I think these two are going to have a lot of success!
Super job Heather & Ziggy 🐶❤️💪🏻

Storm & Rachel
Little “firecracker” Storm & lovely owner Rachel are doing a fabulous job here.
Having initially come to me for Pre Agility classes as a VERY enthusiastic & confident 10 month old pup!, now - being over a year old, Storm is starting to learn how to negotiate simple Agility courses, & doing brilliantly too I may add!
What’s more, there’s been a noticeable improvement in her obedient skills as well as expanding her concentration span & focus making it easier for her owner Rachel to control her & guide her around a course beautifully.
Well done Rachel & Storm! 🐕🦺❤️ 👌🏻

Poppy & Angela
Client Angela & her beautiful ‘ball mad’ Collie Poppy! learning the basics of Agility.
Being 2 of my newer clients, Angela & Poppy are getting better & better with every class, & as you can see Poppy thoroughly enjoys herself!
Fab work Angela & Poppy 🐕🦺❤️🥰

Martha & Seren
MATHRA & SEREN part 3
Mission accomplished!! After 3 lessons Seren is now happily following Martha through the curtain with all the strands down!! 🎉🎉🎉🙌🏻
Martha has done an excellent job handling Seren throughout & they really do make a lovely partnership ❤️
Eventually Seren will be trained to negotiate this obstacle at full Liberty meaning there will be no tack on her & she’ll be guided around only by Martha’s body language, hand signals & verbal commands.
This obstacle can also be tackled ridden as well as it makes up part of the equi-gility which is the ridden version of Horse Agility

Martha & Seren
MATHRA & SEREN part 2….
Only when Seren was absolutely fine going back & forth with one strand hanging down did we move on & drop 2 more strands down.
As you can see from this video, Seren was initially unsure of it by hesitating. But with Martha doing an excellent job keeping very relaxed & quietly asking her to walk forwards, enough trust was already established between the two that Seren was prepared to follow Martha.
It was vital at every stage we didn’t rush Seren or move on & be tempted to add more strands until Seren was happily walking through with no hesitation or reactivity.
It is so important to go at your horses pace of learning!
Reverse wraps
Clip 4….
Some reverse wraps. A little bit rusty (more so from the owner! 😬🙄) but in fairness she’s doing a super job & again nice & controlled.
Hope you enjoyed seeing Teg in action! 🐕🦺❤️ & showing you some great little exercises you can do at home to keep your dog active, thinking & above all having fun!
There will be more from Teg as she continues to strengthen up, & although she doesn’t compete now, it’s still lovely to see her back doing what she loves doing most! & what pleased me most of all about this was that there wasn’t any hint of injury strain at all - such a relief! 😅😊
Get out in 3 exercise
Clip 3…
Now we are on to the “Get Out In 3” exercise.
Again some stunning turns from Teg here. Nice, easy & controlled. Working really well.
Figure of 8
Clip 2…
In this clip we are practicing a large figure of 8 with a “get out in 4” exercise added on.
Again Teg is following my hand signals perfectly & the turns are nice & tight & efficient.
Great job Teggy!
