Jewel is a 140-pound gentle-giant Newfoundand. After winning a National Championship as a show dog and having two litters of puppies at Seabrook Kennel, Jewel retired to Rich and Laura's hobby farm to become a certified therapy dog. She and Laura have visited memory care facilities, special education classrooms and hospitals. She currently visits the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital eve

ry week. She is a gentle Newfie who loves kids, and when lifted by several nurses, may even get in bed with some special patients. Jewel and Laura are quite the pair--Jewel outweighs Laura by 40-pounds.

Our beautiful Miss Jewel just turned 11. That's quite senior for a Newfie, but she's happy, healthy and as kind as ever. We pamper her every day and hope she has another summer at the lake. We are so proud of all she's done to help kids.

Our Jewel is still a beauty at 10 and feeling great, but she's also a great grandmother. This is her 4-month old great grandson Victor--a future rock star. He was born in Slovakia and lives at Seabrook Newfoundlands in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Kathy and Wayne Griffin DVM raise the most wonderful Newfies on the planet. You can check out some of Jewel's relatives at WWW.Seabrooknewfs.com.

Sometimes good friends don't have to say a word--it's all in an expression. Jewel is turning 10 next month (that's very senior for a Newfie) and has just endured 6-months of tough medical treatments. She's been an incredibly kind and caring friend to so many at the University of Minnesota Hospitals. We're going to show her the same care and kindness and give her the best retirement possible.

After enduring 6-months of difficult medical treatment for an autoimmune condition, Jewel returned to the University of Minnesota Hospitals today to visit her many friends. As you can see, she was missed. She is such a trooper and truly loves bringing a few minutes of happiness to the kids, their families, the staff and patients young and old. Jewel still has some tough days ahead, but things are looking up. Thanks for all the kind thoughts and thanks to Jane Battina for helping Laura.

Thanks to all of Jewel's friends at the Children's Hospital who have asked about her. Unfortunately, Jewel is still struggling with an autoimmune disorder that makes her very tired. She's being treated by some very good veterinarians. We hope she can get well enough to visit her friends at the U of M Hospitals, but right now we just want her to feel better. Thanks for your concern.

Our beautiful Ms. Jewel has missed her friends at the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital. For the past month, Jewel has been a pretty sick girl. Under the care of some wonderful veterinarians, she's getting better. We hope she's well enough to visit the kids, families, doctors, nurses and staff this spring. Jewel truly loves being a therapy dog and putting smiles on the faces of her friends at the hospital.
