Today we’re celebrating Stanley’s first birthday 🎉🐑

While our hearts are still heavy with the loss of Lambert, we know he’d want us to celebrate his best bud and this special milestone.

Stanley’s story is full of surprises, resilience, and joy. You can read it by clicking into his profile on the Resident page or use the link in the first comment. You’ll also find links to learn more about sheep and how to sponsor Stanley.

We asked Stanley what he wanted for his first birthday, and he had just one request:

✨ a few sponsors to help the hoomans keep the snacks (and all the important stuff) coming ✨

Help us celebrate this sweet boy today! 💛

It is with heavy hearts, that we share that Lambert passed away overnight. He had been under treatment for some health issues and his last report showed he was doing well, so his loss comes as a deep shock to us. We’re still processing this grief and holding his memory close. Lambert's gentle spirit brought so much love to everyone at the rescue. We will be creating a proper memorial to celebrate his life soon, but for now, we pause to honor the joy he shared with us all. ❤️

Have you hugged a chicken today? 🐔💛

If not, consider this your reminder—because today we’re celebrating National Hug a Chicken Day!

Whether they’re feathered lap warmers, gentle garden helpers, or just really good listeners, chickens have a special way of stealing hearts. Give your favorite hen a soft hug (if she’s into it), an extra treat, or a little love from a respectful distance.

Don’t have a chicken of your own? Send ours some love with a donation and/or drop a 💛 in the comments.

Chickens give us so much joy—today’s the perfect day to give a little back. 💕

Wishlist Wednesday is here and we could really use your help with these items.

🔒 Safety first! We’re looking to upgrade a couple of door locks to keep our sanctuary secure.

🥬 Leafy Greens – Fresh meals for emus, bunnies, turkeys, and other herbivores, especially kale, collard, mustard, turnip, and dandelion greens along with romaine.

🦆 Baby Enclosures – Pens and soft flooring for baby waterfowl that will start arriving soon.

From the tiniest nestling to the tallest emu, every animal here relies on us to have what they need—clean spaces, safe housing, nourishing food, and healthy environments. When you donate from our wishlist, you’re giving more than supplies. You’re giving comfort, care, and the chance for every animal to heal.

✨ Website Update & Ways You Can Help ✨

Thank you for your patience as we continue rebuilding our website — we’re making progress every day! While a recent cyber attack means the QR codes in our calendar no longer work, we’re still sharing the same extended animal stories you love.

🐾 Visit Animals > Residents on our website and click a resident’s photo (look for the click icon!) to explore their full story. Each month, extended content for our featured animal will be posted — and right now, Petit Ami’s story is live 💛

🛒 We’ve also updated our Amazon Wishlist with our most-needed items. With the holidays behind us, we’re already preparing for baby bird season, which will be here before we know it! You’ll find the updated links on our homepage.

Thank you for supporting our animals and being part of our community. Every visit, share, and wishlist item helps. 💚

After a long, cold night, birds need a fast energy boost to survive. High-fat foods like sunflower seeds, peanuts, mealworms, and suet act like a warm breakfast – helping them refuel quickly and stay strong.

Today's the last day of the year, so i'm going to share some memories from 2025.

One of the first events that we had was coming in to work, and finding out we had new baby lambs born!

Lambert immediately took on the daddy duties even though he was not the father and the sheep came into the rescue pregnant.

Happy New Year, friends! As many of you are aware, our website hit a small bump in the road on Christmas Eve — we were hacked. Someone was not so kind to us, and surely received coal in their stocking the next morning.

While unexpected and certainly unappreciated, this has given us the opportunity to make our website better than ever. Our amazing designer is busy rebuilding it from the ground up! While she’s focused on getting everything safe and flying again, we’ll be sharing some favorite throwbacks and highlights from the past.

And enjoy some artwork from the flock — they’re trying to “help.” 😄💙

It was an absolute please working with Joel Satore! Thanks for the shout out. Check out joel's book. The photo ark that features several of CWR's birds.

The seventh day of Christmas is marked with swans-a-swimming! Tundra swans like this one at Carolina Waterfowl Rescue breed in the tundra of the Arctic and subarctic, where they inhabit shallow pools, lakes and rivers. Spending most of their lives on the water, swans swim constantly, covering long distances using efficient webbed feet, often "windsurfing" for speed.

Protecting the unwanted, abused and unloved.

We at CWR are dedicated to caring for the animals who fall through the cracks of traditional rescues. We strive to take in the unwanted, unloved, abused and forgotten animals in society. We are working on building a new larger facility where we can educate people on the plights of these animals and form meaningful relationships with them by visiting.
