The Mare Pasture Project The Mare Pasture is a visionary plan for sustainable housing and living designed by renowned Tucson architect John Riggs.

The Mare Pasture Project is John Riggs' passion project,“People want that sense of connection,” - “They want to live in communities, but they also want to have gardens, to look outside and see wildlife nearby, to see the stars clearly at night." John grew up on Red Wing Ranch, which includes The Mare Pasture, and is a descendant of Brannick Riggs, founder of the original Riggs Settlement and famil

y ranches in Cochise County. John is passionate about preserving his family's heritage and the beautiful open rangelands of Southeastern Arizona. The Mare Pasture community will feature high-density residential clusters integrated into irrigated pastures, orchards, gardens and open rangeland. Facilities will also include a liberal arts college, an equestrian center, riding / biking / walking trails, a vineyard, winery, and hydroponic farming. Agritourism at The Mare Pasture will foster varied business and recreational opportunities, from private "locally grown" dining experiences to regional winery events.
