I cannot say enough wonderful things about Allegany Mountain Saddlery! I have two notoriously difficult-to-fit horses with short backs, barrel-shaped torsos, and little wither. Finding the right saddle had been a nightmare. I've tried so many saddles that slipped constantly, making it impossible to mount from the ground. My poor horses were so uncomfortable they’d kindly take me to the mounting block as if to say, "please get off". Getting them into a canter was nearly impossible.
After hearing rave reviews about Allegany Mountain Saddlery again and again from other owners of my chosen breed, I decided to give them a try, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made for my horses and myself. From the very first interaction, their customer service blew me away. Staci and the team were quick, friendly, positive, and thorough. They truly did their homework to understand not only my horses’ unique challenges but also my needs as a rider.
I started with their saddle kit, and the process was fascinating! The instructions were simple, and for the first time, I could see exactly why my previous saddles didn’t fit. The fitting process showed me how critical tree fit is to a horse’s comfort and saddle stability. The team guided me every step of the way, ensuring I provided the proper photos and videos to pinpoint the perfect fit. The kit had arrived quickly, was super easy to ship off again, and the money spent towards that was deducted from the price of my saddle.
When a stunning used saddle in the right size became available, they helped me evaluate whether it would work for my horses. To my amazement, it fit *both* of them perfectly! The saddle is absolutely gorgeous, crafted with exceptional materials and attention to detail. It’s lightweight yet incredibly sturdy and so comfortable for both me and my horses.
The real game changer? My horses *love* it! They no longer protest or avoid being ridden. In fact, they’re happy to be saddled up, and I now ride more than ever because the saddle is so easy to lift and use. My horses canter beautifully and seem more relaxed and willing under saddle. We’ve spent countless hours riding in the mountains, on trails, in the arena, and even around the neighborhood. It’s like a dream come true.

"I've been meaning to write a review for a while, but I'm glad I waited. Putting more miles on my saddle has just reinforced my first impression. When I bought my little mule in December, I knew I didn't want to ride her unless she had something on her back that fit. Proceed, me going down the rabbit hole of saddle company's that actually adhere to ethics of equine comfort I agreed with, and putting riders in a classic biomechanically correct position!

When I research something, I get IN to it and here I stumble on a company that literally checked every box for science based saddle fit and comfort for rider and equine.
My saddle took a mere 9 weeks from order to completion. Staci helped me with dimensions in such a knowledgeable way.

I've had my saddle for 4 months now. I use it on my mule, which it fits beautifully. The first time I put ït on her and lunged her in it, she had the craziest emotional releases. I don't think she'd ever worn a saddle that didn't hurt her. I also use it on multiple other mules at the pack station I work at. It fits them all better than any saddle I've ever seen for a mule. I ride in it for hours every day and I have to say I have never ever been in such a comfortable saddle. It pretty much forces you to have a neutral, effective pelvis and leg. My back never hurts, my legs never hurt. It's narrow in the seat for beautiful communication. It's light and easy to carry and throw. Im pretty much a big fan. Thank you guys, so very glad I found you. ❤"

"Great news! Staci, Lisa, and team, thank you so much for all of your help. I love the saddle. Staci, I'm very glad I listened to you about the make, seat size, and every other option that you helped guide me on. I'm sure you get that a lot :))) The horse chiropractor I use (who is also a saddle fitter) was also really impressed with the fit and quality.

Most importantly, my horse Cutter is so much more comfortable-- I think his "zen" face in the pic below captures it all! Lol.
