Thornton - Glanhowy Nimrod AT STUD - Glanhowy Ni**od (Thornton) DOB -16/09/2015. KC Reg Working Cocker Spaniel with clear resu We collected Thornton from Tredegar, Wales in November 2015.

Whilst he is primarily a much loved family pet we were keen to select another WCS with a good FTCh pedigree. Thornton is a very steady dog and socialises well with other dogs and people, adapting well to new situations and experiences. He is happy chasing a ball on the beach, rooting around to retrieve his lure and is always up for cuddles on the sofa. Thornton has beaten on the last 4 pheasant/du

ck seasons, working across multiple shoots in the Bristol and Gloucestershire area. He is very well regarded by guns and beaters alike. Whilst we have no intention of “formally” training him as a gun dog, we have been keen to allow him the opportunity to work. He shows natural enthusiasm, energy and stamina and appreciates he is there to work and not play with the other dogs. He is confident diving into thick cover and is good at both recall and quartering. It is impossible to hide his excitement when the shooting kit comes out as a “boys day out” always includes sausages! That said, he’s developed an ‘off switch’ at home with age. Until last year Thornton and I attended Agility training twice a week at Celestine, which we loved and Thornton performed really well. He has also achieved his Gold KC Obedience Certificate. Thornton’s sire Bishwell Barcud is a respected FTCh. If you are interested in using him as a stud, please take a look at his photos and videos and give us a shout. We would be delighted for you to come and join us on a country walk to see him in person. Thornton has been DNA health tested clear for AMS, FN, AON, prcd-PRA and holds a current clear BVA eye certificate and Grade 1 PLA. Priority for matings with be given to bi***es that are similarly DNA health tested clear. Please see the pinned post on Thornton’s page for up to date breeding information.

It was so good to be back on Steph's Packed Lunch yesterday! Much like before the summer break, I’m on every other Tuesday talking about all things pets! 🥰

Yesterday was a heavy one - we were talking about Dangerous Dogs & the XL Bully. I felt so strongly about making sure we presented a balanced discussion without sensationalising. I’m so grateful to the team for allowing me to do just that, and I’m so pleased to have received such great feedback from the dog world. ❤️ one thing's for sure, I certainly don't envy the government for the tricky landscape they'll have to navigate with the ever changing situation in the UK.

Moving forwards, I can’t wait to see what we’ll end up talking about between now and December. If there's anything you'd like to hear spoken about on TV, let me know! Here’s to more great conversations with great people 🤠

Sadly Pearl experienced some kind of trauma injury at 5 weeks old and has lost the use of her rear legs but that’s not holding her back one little bit! She’s getting stronger in her limbs week by week with the help from her wonderful owners who are striving to give her the best pain free life possible including physiotherapy and hydrotherapy.

The Tappy Family 🐾🐾
Josh & Reggie

Hello! Here’s our TAP update, a little late on the day as we needed to take photos!
Josh has been super excited all week in anticipation of Reggie’s arrival. This afternoon we welcomed him into his forever home. He was such a good pup, getting to know his new surroundings and all the different smells. His arrival was made even more exciting as some of the generous gifts from TAP supporters arrived too! He’s settled in really well already, with only Bella and Lily (our cats) a little unsure of the new arrival!

As Reggie leaves TAP HQ today to join his Forever Family (The Hall Family, and in particular Josh) I would like to take this opportunity to ask if you’d join us in making a financial contribution to this fantastic Charity who are sourcing, buying and training pups to become Autism Support Dogs for children, with full support during the life of the dog in its job as an assistance dog. This process costs in the region of £12000 + per placed dog. The Charity themselves are making fantastic efforts in raising these funds but if we could all give a boost, I know that Hayley and her team would be incredibly grateful as it allows for more Autistic children to benefit from this wonderful charity.
Thank you in advance for anything at all that you can contribute 🥰🥰

See link below ⬇️ for funding page, thank you!

It's a big day for this wee chap 🐾🐾
Today Reggie joins his family, I've a whole heap of emotions so heaven knows how Josh is feeling!
Reggie has such a cheeky character and he just loves a cuddle and fuss ❤️
Reggie will start his residential training next month but first, it's time to get to know his boy and his new family.
Good luck little fella we are going to miss having you around but we can't wait to see how you go on to support your family 🐾🐾

Reggie’s pawtrait photo was taken by Ronan Nind Photography a wriggly pup is never easy to capture but once again Ronan worked his magic and here's the end result, how could anyone resist that face? 😍

If you would like to help support Reggie’s training the link is below and also in our bio, we appreciate it very much and we can't do what we do without your help, every little counts and helps us to help others 🐾🐾

Absolutely delighted to see how well Cinna is doing (Warbler x Thornton’s 2nd litter). Never ceases to amaze us what these pups are capable of 💙🐾💙

Last week I had a very exciting day filming with BBC Morning Live, and it was a series of firsts for all of us! 😁 For myself, it was the first time I’d led an entire segment. 🫣 In other shows, I’ve been interviewed, except this time, I was the interviewer! We filmed all day, starting with me teaching someone how to get their dog to get them undressed. Then I interviewed a trainer from an assistance dog charity. Finally, I demonstrated how you’d teach your dog to tidy up.

It struck me how much I wished I had seen this kind of content when I was younger and searching for hope. I remember catching a glimpse of a dog assisting a disabled person on TV, but there was never any guidance on training your own dog or where to find support. Being able to share that knowledge on camera was truly meaningful, and I hope it brings hope to anyone who may be in a similar situation. 🥹

It was also a big day for Cinna! Filming can be a tricky environment for dogs, with faceless figures towering over you and bulky cameras that zip around in an instant. For a dog like Cinna, who hasn't always been the most confident, it was a real challenge. Normally, I would have chosen Ted to perform in this situation. But with Ted still recovering, Cinna stepped up to the plate—and he absolutely nailed it! He even learned new tasks on the spot for the cameras! Seeing him happy and confident in such an overwhelming setting was heartwarming. 🥰

And for Mr Ted, it was a first of mostly just chilling. Due to tight time constraints, Mr Ted doesn’t make a cameo, poor lad! I know he’d have much rather been helping out, but he still needs rest. 😞

Now, the big news—when can you watch it? TOMORROW! The turnaround was crazy quick! Tune in to BBC One on Weds 12th, at 9.15am to catch the show and see how we did! It will be a first for all of us, as I haven't seen it either! 😂 Next time ❤️

Thank you all for your incredible support on this journey, it’s crazy to me that most of you followed me because I taught my dog to help me so that I could leave the house, and now you’re watching me become a TV presenter. What a ride! It means the world to have you with us, and I hope you enjoy watching! 📺❤️

How does T.A.P dog Arlo help Rome? 🐾🐾

We were the first TAP family to have a pup placed with us and what a beautiful journey it has been! Our boy is the first “TAP graduate”, he was the missing piece to our family puzzle and we are so grateful to TAP, the peoples and his wonderful trainer for making this happen!

Rome and Arlo have been together for just over two years now - sometimes it feels like the quickest two years ever but at other times I struggle to remember life without him and can’t believe he’s only been with us for two years!

Arlo helps us so much as a family. He collects up Rome’s clothes and brings them to us to put in the wash, he brings Rome’s nappies and will hop onto the bin to open it for us. He interrupts Rome if he rocks against something dangerous or could hurt himself. Just by being in the car with Rome, we have a much calmer and less reactive journey. Sometimes, Arlo helps simply by giving us a reason to get out of the house (even when the weather is rubbish!) and seeing the two of them splashing in puddles is so heartwarming. Rome’s speech has been improving so much recently and he is getting really good at trying to copy Arlo’s commands and saying words like “stroke”, “break” and “kiss” - these are words that Rome would previously had had no motivation to say. We wanted Rome to feel as though he had a purpose and to give him a sense of responsibility and now, every morning before school, Rome gives Arlo his breakfast and before leaving he will give him a stroke and says “bye”.
Most importantly, Arlo helps us by being a part of our family, making us laugh every day with his crazy do**us ways and he wholeheartedly loves us as much as we love him - he’s our assistance dog, our family pet and our second born!

TAP hasn’t just gifted us Arlo; we’re now part of an amazing family - the TAPpy family - where we can be totally honest, safely share the ups and downs of SEN parenthood and have a good old laugh and natter too. I’ve been lucky enough to meet four of the other TAP Mums and I didn’t think I would bond with people I’ve never met face to face but I feel like I have known them forever because we all just “get it” and I am so grateful for their friendship, support and guidance.

I will never forget answering the door to Hayley, her holding out a teeny Arlo, and saying “Hello Mummy”. It was a very special moment and one that will stay with us forever!

How does T.A.P dog Ash help Charlie? 🐾🐾

Charlie and Ash - we were the second family to receive our beautiful gift of Ash who we welcomed into our family on 2nd April 2022.
Firstly to all of the families looking at applications thinking ohh we will never get picked....just try it!
I do believe in fate and when I first met Hayley it was like I had known her for a very long time, I could have spoken to her all night and just felt a sense of belonging especially since a lot of my everyday challenges with Charlie are similar to Mancub’s, it was great to be able to relate to someone.
We have had our Ash for over a year now. She’s currently on her third residential stay, when she’s gone it’s a huge realisation of just how much she does to help Charlie already. Even though she’s not here he still wakes up every morning shouting prinny girl and goes and opens her crate door and talks to her like she’s here, he talks about her all the time and how much he misses her and for Charlie that’s quite a big thing because he doesn’t show that much affection normally.
Before Ash Charlie hated the sound of a kiss. It would cause a huge meltdown if I kissed his brother for example.
Charlie kisses Ash and also can tolerate others doing this, don't get me wrong he gets cross if I’m sat there kissing her for a while as we all do but before this would never have been tolerated for even 2 seconds! Charlie has 0 attention span but he does help to train Ash and enjoys doing this for a short period and that's a great achievement in our eyes.
Ash gets us out the house each day. Without her we wouldn’t have visited some of the places on our doorstep that we have never been to before. She’s our excuse to get out and go, Charlie is never jumping for joy at the thought of a walk I still get - how long, I feel sick and sometimes a meltdown but we do it every day and when we are out that anxiety of being out lifts.
Ash helps him get on and off of the school bus each day. She doesn’t just help him the other children with autism also love seeing her as part of their routine too.
One of the main things Ash is learning at residential training is “Paws” charlie has extremely high sensory needs that impact his day to day life, he pulls his eyelashes, eyebrows and hair out so Ash is learning paws to try and distract him from the pulling.
Ash is charlies best friend, she’s that friend what never leaves even if he does have a bad day she’s always there. She’s also mine and my partners best friend and Charlie’s younger brothers best friend she unites us all as a family and brings us so much joy and happiness even on challenging days.

A lovely explanation from one of the T.A.P. families as to how important an Autism Support dog is to them 🐾🐾🐾🐾

How can a T.A.P dog help?
We’ve asked our Tappy pawrents to explain how 🐾🐾

We have Maple, TAP dog number 3, who was placed with our daughter Clara on 22 September 2022, when Clara was 12 years old. Maple has only been with us for a relatively short period of time and is still a young puppy, at the beginning of her training. However, we have all been amazed at the many different ways that Maple is already helping Clara. Clara is autistic and has PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance), which means that she often can't do the everyday routines and tasks in her day-to-day life.

Maple has become Clara's best friend and companion who is always by her side, endlessly making Clara smile and laugh. This may seem to be unimportant, but it actually often makes the difference between Clara being able to do a task such as getting up in the morning and really, really struggling to do this. The bond between Clara and Maple is so strong that Maple just seems to know that Clara needs her, so she just pushes herself into Clara's lap and sits with her, licking her face and helping Clara to relax. When Clara is relaxed, any demands that she is feeling are immediately easier for her to take on. Maple is beginning to be able to do things such as fetching Clara's shoes and socks and bringing Clara her lead. These tasks hugely reduce the demands Clara faces when she wants to go out, which is so helpful. As Maple continues through her training programme, she will be taught specific commands to follow in order to help Clara more precisely at times like these and we are very excited for the future.

Before Maple, Clara's future felt like a daunting and scary time because we couldn't see a way in to help Clara. Even at just 10 months old, Maple helps Clara by simply giving her a reason to be. Clara has gone from a child who was unable to leave the house, to a child who takes her puppy for a walk every day. Clara takes an active role in Maple's training and it makes us so proud to see them both working so hard together. Having Maple by her side gives Clara a huge boost of self-confidence in being part of a team when she is going somewhere, such as into a shop. We are hoping that, as Maple continues on her training programme, she will provide Clara with the support that she needs to be able to attend medical and dental appointments. In a social situation, Maple reduces the focus from Clara and has meant that Clara has been able to speak to people on a couple of occasions - this is a huge step for Clara and something that we hope the duo can build upon in the future.

For our two other children and our family unit as a whole, having Maple by Clara's side means that we can begin to heal as family. We can begin to look towards Clara feeling happier, healthier and more able to participate in family life. This fills us with a huge amount of hope and we will forever be grateful to TAP for giving us all this incredible opportunity.

Applications are open for families with an Autistic child who would like to be considered for an Autistic Support Dog from the Together anything is pawsible Charity. Please see below for application criteria and how to apply. Also, please look at the Charity’s page to read about the current families benefiting from this wonderful Charity. 🐾🐾🐾🐾

Let's start this week with some awesomeness🙌

🐾❤️Applications are now open for the gorgeous Jet❤️🐾

Jet is set to start residential training next month where he will spend time learning general obedience to put him in good stead for his future ahead.
Jet has trainers available in the Fleet, Twickenham and Cheshire areas so he is being made available to families in all 3 locations.

Jet will be ready to join his little human mid August🐾🐾

The criteria for Jet is as follows :

🐾 Jet will be placed with a child between the ages of 3 and 16.
🐾 Training sessions can be in either Fleet, Twickenham or Cheshire so families that can travel to one of these areas for training can apply.
🐾 A diagnosis of autism or on the pathway to diagnosis.
🐾If you already have an application with us you are welcome to reapply as we understand needs change over time.
🐾 Please give us as much information as possible regarding your childs needs and how an assistance dog could help, this is very imPAWtant as it helps us to match Jet to a child and we can forward plan his training route.

Jet will be gifted to a family that need a helping paw along with all of his training to take him all the way up to a fully trained assistance dog 🐕‍🦺
A lot of his training will be residential stays for Jet so please take this into account, there will also be keeping up with the training homework for pawrents 🐾🐾
Jet will always remain the property of T.A.P Assistance Dogs.

If you have a little human who needs a helping paw and meets the above criteria please feel free to fill out the application form ❤️

Shares are appreciated so let's come together once again to change a little person's life 😊🐾🐾

The link to the application form is below, applications will close at midnight on the 30th of June.

Our Story

We collected Thornton from Tredegar, Wales in November 2015.

Thornton has beaten on the last 4 pheasant/duck seasons, working across multiple shoots in the Bristol and Gloucestershire area.
