Survey on dog swimming and the environment at Hampstead Heath promoted by the Heath & Hampstead Society:

"The Heath is a very special place for dog walking, not the least because it has specific areas for dog swimming, which are greatly valued by both dogs and dog walkers! But now, evidence is emerging that dog flea treatments, which contain pesticides, are washing off dogs and polluting British waterways, posing a potential threat to wildlife. The Heath & Hampstead Society wants to understand what this means for the Heath and its wildlife and natural habitats. To do this, we have enlisted assistance from experts at the Royal Veterinary College, Imperial College London and the University of Sussex and are working closely with the City of London.
This summer, the Royal Veterinary College is making a study of dog swimming and pesticide pollution across ponds on the Heath. As part of this study, we want to know from dog walkers what their practices are with respect to flea treatment and dog swimming. If you walk your dog on the Heath, please could you help us by completing a short online questionnaire?
The questionnaire is completely anonymous and will take less than ten minutes. Your responses will help develop ways to protect dog swimming opportunities while also protecting nature on the Heath. You can find the questionnaire here:"

If you've read the recent newspaper headlines suggesting breed has nothing to do with behaviour – read this. All is not what it seems (and yes, I think that breed – the functions for which your dog's ancestors were bred – does have something to do with behaviour along with their environment, what they learn and their own individual self.

If you find the topic interesting, I can highly recommend "Meet Your Dog" by Kim Brophey which will help you get a better understanding of your own dog.
