Can I use regular shampoo on a dog?
Using your own favorite soaps and shampoos on your dog may be tempting, but it’s best to avoid using human shampoo products on our pets entirely. Scientifically speaking, dogs and humans have very different pH balances when it comes to our skin and the fine layer protecting it known as the “acid mantle.” The pH of human skin is typically more acidic (around 5.5) while our canine companions generally have a more neutral skin pH closer to the 6-7 range depending on their breed and hair type. It’s important to take these pH values into consideration when looking at bath products because the formulation for human shampoos could strip away that protective acid mantle layer on your dog’s skin and lead to dryness, itching, and increased vulnerability to nasty critters like bacteria and parasites. 🦠🛁

Believe it or not, your beloved pooch also has more delicate skin than you do! While humans have between 10 and 15 layers of skin cells protecting our bodies, dogs only have around 3-5. This is why it’s so important to bathe your pet with a product specially formulated for their skin type and unique needs. In this day and age some human shampoos may claim to have more organic, gentle, and all-natural ingredients, but certain fragrance oils and chemical components could still irritate your pet’s skin. We suggest it’s always best to keep your favorite Nandalicious dog shampoo handy and carefully read labels on other pet bath products to ensure your pup is getting the healthiest and most relaxing pamper session possible.
