Happy Gotcha Day to Herman! I bet this guy had no idea the adventures he would go on and the fun life he had waiting for him when he got on transport in Louisiana a year ago. Looks like he's having a blast!

His Mom tells us: "Herman is great- he comes along on trips and has been on beaches, ferries, to college, and rode on a golf cart through Peaks Island. He even crossed the border to Canada! He loves to be right in the middle of everyone. He has a best buddy next door and plays with him daily. He is still fearful of new people but loves his familiars!"

Another cute update on one of Lexi's puppies, Gunner (fka Pinecone). What a good boy!

In January, we rescued a sweet Louisiana Momma dog, Lexi and her ELEVEN puppies (the Christmas pups!). The puppies just celebrated their 1st birthdays and we have gotten a couple of fun updates from their forever families which we will share over the next couple of days.

This guy is Roscoe, fka Garland and his mom sent us this cute update:
"Roscoe (fka Garland) and the rest of Lexi’s pups will be a year old! Roscoe is doing great! Loves to snuggle and play with his boy! So glad he joined our family! He fits right in and loves to be in the outdoors- just like us! Happy birthday Roscoe, and all 10 of your brothers and sisters! I hope they are doing just as great as Roscoe is! Thank you Almost Home Rescue for connecting us!"

We were thrilled to get this 3 month update on how Coco is doing in his forever home!

Coco is a 9 year old poodle mix who was surrendered to us when his beloved human passed. The poor guy was so (understandably) depressed and took a bit to come out of his shell in his foster home, and was quite wary of new people. He generated a lot of interest but his applications kept falling through. Senior dogs aren't easy to place, even when they are little and cute! Along came the most wonderful couple who fell in love immediately, and the feeling was mutual for Coco! His transition went way smoother than we expected and we couldn't be happier for this guy and his people.

His Mom tells us: "Oh my goodness!! We love him soo much! He is funny, attentive, loving, a lap dog who loves us petting him and loves pretzel tidbits! He stays near us at all times when outside, comes when called, loves to ride in the car. Our PERFECT little baby! We are so, so lucky to have him…what a joy! Thank you for allowing us to have him!"

Yep, that’s a blurry wagging tail!

Available Chuck is a 2-3 year old Basset hound mix who is as silly and happy as can be! Chuck is house and crate trained. Loves other dogs, fine with cats. He is eager, excited and has a LOT of energy so he will do best with older kiddos. Since he’s a hound, Chuck might be a little too chatty to live in an apartment.

Big Bear Otis just celebrated his GOTCHA Day! Otis has been in his forever home for a year. We've shared some updates on this Goofy Gentleman along the way and we are so happy that he landed in his forever home. Love it!

His Mom tells us: "A year has flown by for us and Otis! He is goofy and well mannered. He likes to sit tall on the couch like a human and watch out the window as his human sister goes to school. He likes to chase after the ball but never gives it back but prances with it! He holds his stuffies in the air with his paws and can solve his puzzle in less than a minute! He filled a missing piece and we are so lucky he’s ours!"

Hello, Newwwman.

Newman is a 3-4 yr old chihuahua who weighs about 11lbs with a super cute personality. He does take a little time to warm up to new people, but when he does, he goes in to serious cuddle bug mode. He loves giving kisses and enjoys snuggling under blankets with his people. He is a little velcro guy and is up for anything his people are doing - going for walks, riding in the car or just chillin'.

We are psyched for Gatsby (fka Kip from Louisiana) who just celebrated two years in his forever home. The Maine life sure looks good on this guy, huh?

Gatsby's Mom tells us: Gatsby is great! He's a sweet, happy, and wild boy that loves life. We are still working on not being scared of people but he has come a long way! We even took a road trip to and from FL this year and he was a champ! He loves to play with his doggy friends and sniff everything he can! He loves the beach and the water! He races me back to the recliner because it is truly his recliner now. Haha! I think I managed to capture the moment that he realized he was home the day I brought him home. He has quickly become a creature of comfort. He has the cutest little worry wrinkles, but his happiness still shines through. I'm so grateful to you for rescuing him and allowing me to give him a forever home."

Do you remember Kelly who came to us from Louisiana? She was the CUTEST little puppy who got a ton of attention on our social media. Well, Kelly is now named Frances and she has been in her forever for three months, and she's still the CUTEST!

We were so happy to hear from Frances's mom. She tells us: "Kelly - now Frances "Fran" has done well since moving to Boston. She is in a play group 3 times per week and a separate play group in the evening. She is doing well has trips to the cape which she loves to run on the beach! She graduated from puppy school. I did her DNA testing and she is a wide variety of dogs. She has been the biggest joy in my life and has been so comforting to my parents who occasionally babysit and struggled with the passing of our last dog. She was also blessed on October 5th at our local church for blessings of the animals. Thank you again for taking my application. Fran has been such a joy in my life."

HOLY WOW, what a night!
We can't find the the right words to express our most sincere gratitude to those who came out last to support us, we are blown away! It was a packed house and boy did we have fun partying for our pups. An enormous thank you to our sponsors, to those who donated goods or services to our silent auction, to our volunteers who worked behind the scenes and at the event, and to our guests!
Almost Home Rescue is going in to our 20th year of finding dogs (over 6,000!) their forever homes and we couldn't do it without your continued support. You all are amazing, we're looking forward to seeing you again next year!

Available Duncan is ready for Halloween!

Duncan is a quirky 3 year old terrier mix. He was returned to us and has been with his wonderful foster for a few months now. Duncan has a LOT of energy! A typical terrier, he has a strong personality and will require frequent and consistent physical and mental engagement to keep him satisfied. He's not going to be a couch potato! Duncan is thriving in his foster home, and enjoys going to daycare a couple of times a week where he also works with a trainer. He has made many doggie friends and loves to play with other dogs. He can play a bit rough, he's a terrier. He has a no-touch zone which has been checked out thoroughly by multiple vets, it's not a medical thing, he just doesn't like that spot touched. He is otherwise happy to snuggle and curl up in your lap after a good exercise sesh or completing a challenging puzzle.

Duncan is a really great dog for someone who has the time and energy to continue working with him. He's so cute that it's almost a fault. He looks like a big version of a dog that some celebrity might carry around in a purse, he's not that guy. Not even close. If you are looking for a true-to-breed terrier who wants to work, this is the guy! He is excellent on leash, is house trained, knows all his commands, loves to go everywhere and be an active participant in a family unit.

Jackson just celebrated four years in his forever home!

A very pregnant momma dog was found dumped in rural Mississippi and safely captured only days before giving birth to five of the chonkiest puppies you've ever seen. Unlike many of the dogs we rescue, Jackson was very fortunate to have known nothing but love since the moment he and his littermates were born at their incredibly doting foster mom's house.

Aside from being handsome, Jackson enjoys being a goober. He is happy to do whatever his his mom and spare human are doing. He's happy to go on hikes, work in the yard, do yoga, run errands, or take naps. If his people are doing it, so is he. Jackson looks forward to whatever goodies his mom brings home from AHR's annual Party for the Pups, and this year he is really hoping she wins more sessions with his favorite trainer so he can keep being a Gooddogz, AND this awesome YETI Tundra 35 cooler to keep his strawberries cold!

Join us as we Party for the Pups to celebrate and raise money for dogs like Jackson.

Aspiring Brew-Dog Otis is looking for his forever home here in New England! This guy heard that there are over 160 breweries here in Maine and wants to frequent one. You’ll see from this “live-on-the-scene” video, he’s hit the Brew-Dog campaign trail already with his North Carolina foster, and he gets our vote for sure! Otis is about 6 years old, a bigger guy at 75lbs and loves being with dogs and all people. He’s a perfect gentleman and would be a great addition to any home. Adopters aren’t *required* to enjoy craft beer, it’s just a bonus for Otis if you do. For more info on Otis, check out his bio on our website?

When Henry first arrived in Maine a few months ago, he went by the name Scruffy, and he was terrified of everything. Even getting into a car was an ordeal for him. Luckily, he was able to decompress in one of our amazing foster homes, and little by little, his cute, spunky personality began to emerge. Then, life got even better when the perfect application came along and Henry was adopted! His mom sent us the sweetest update recently: Henry is doing fantastic! We are starting school at the end of the month, but he knows sit/ down/ come/ gentle/ do you need help? Henry loves to chase balls, but has yet to bring one back. He loves to run run his zoomies out at the park & has a best buddy, Boomer, and he has play dates with most weekends! (His favorite game is to shove toys under the couch & then can’t reach!) He is doing great with staying home for short periods. I’ve attached a video of his Super Wiggle greeting after I had to pop into office for a few hours… I hope the quality is ok, it’s really good for a giggle. It’s also pretty similar to his dinner time dance!! He’s learning that car rides are not so scary when they end up at the park or a play date or the pet store! He did have to be mildly sedated for his vaccine appt, as he had to go in alone with new sights/ spells/ people.. but my vet was great about getting his meds & getting shots done.. with some help of peanut butter 😊 Please feel free to share/ post any photos, I’m so happy Henry’s found his way to my home!

Almost Home Rescue of New England is an all-breed canine rescue group located in Maine and New Hampshire. We are 501 (c) 3 nonprofit, dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs.

Most of AHR’s dogs have come from overcrowded shelters in Arkansas and most recently Mississippi; however, we also take dogs from local shelters, veterinarians, and other situations that require rescue. All of our imported dogs arrive with a current Health Certificate, meet Maine and New Hampshire state import and vaccination requirements, are wormed, micro-chipped, and transported on an U.S.D.A. approved transport. We are an all volunteer run organization. All the dogs listed are either still waiting in Arkansas, Tennessee, or Mississippi Shelters, or they are in New England Foster Homes waiting to be adopted
