Looking for a sweet treat? This little snack is Beignet or "Benny"!
Benny is 5-6 month old puppy named after the famously delicious Louisiana dessert because when he was found, he had so little fur that he looked like he was wearing a nothing but a sweet sprinkling of powdered sugar. Beignet's fur has grown in and he's turning in to a super handsome specimen of doggie goodness.
It's usually hard to gauge a dog's personality from a few photos but Benny makes it pretty easy as his tail is always blurry since he is so happy - it's always wagging (see for yourself!). This guy is SO SWEET!

Hello Sweet Baby Earl!
Adoptable Earl is a 3-4 month old mixed breed puppy who weighs about 15lbs. He is an awesome little guy with the perfect mix of puppy playfulness and snuggly chill.
He loves anything and everything! Earl is crate trained, doing well with house training, and is learning his cues.

Oh wow. How cute is adoptable puppy Aggie!?!?!
Aggie is a sweet and energetic 3 month old pit bull mix puppy. This girl has a big, silly personality and provides hours of adorable entertainment. Aggie is a quick learner and loves to show off her tricks especially when there are treats involved.
Aggie is crate trained and working on house training. She is learning her cues and knows "sit/stay" and is getting the hang of "down". DOWN can be tough as there is so much fun stuff UP when you are a puppy!
Aggie already loves having a routine and enjoys going with her foster mom to work and doing all the stuff that adorable little puppies do, like sticking their tongues out at us so we don't forget for a second how cute they are.

Happy Gotcha Day to Maui!
Maui was one of the "Disney pups" who came to us from our Louisiana rescue partner. He was the absolute cutest little fluffball who has clearly grown up to be the most absolutely gorgeous, large fluffball!
Maui's mom gave us this great update: The year has flown by for sure. Maui has been a wonderful addition to our family and we couldn’t imagine life without him. Maui is such a sweet boy who loves to cuddle. He loves taking walks, playing ball, playing with his cat brother and just lounging outside on our porch. Maui is a big boy weighing 78 lbs now and is a big fan of fruits and veggies with his dinner. Choosing Maui to join our family was a great decision, we love him very much!

Please join us for the 16th Annual Almost Home Rescue Reunion on Sunday, September 22nd from 12-3pm at the Picnic Grove, Rotary Park in Biddeford.
For adopters and volunteers, this day is a way for us to celebrate and say "Thank You" while bringing everyone together to meet up and say hello - including the dogs! We are looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones. All well-behaved dogs are welcome (must be on leash, of course).
Sandwiches, soft drinks, water and desserts provided. We'll have cool raffles and AHR merchandise for sale. Please come and join the fun!

Oh Luna! Where is your forever home?!
Luna is a 6 year old Shepherd mix who has been with us for a long (LONG!) time. For those who have been following her, Luna is now in excellent health (IBD in remission!), her weight is considered "ideal" (who can even say that!?!) and she is so ready to find her forever home.
Luna is a very special dog. She loves people and is incredibly eager to please. She has had extensive positive reinforcement training and has all of her cues mastered and impeccable manners . Luna is incredibly smart and will need mental and physical exercise to keep her fulfilled. Because Luna is so people-focused, we have decided that she will do best in a home as the only dog. Luna does love to play with other dogs and has many doggie friends of different ages and play styles, so she will enjoy continued socialization with other dogs.
We are looking for an adopter who has previous shepherd, or other herding/high drive dog experience as Luna will need the consistency and structure that encourages these dogs to thrive.

Adoptable Baby Rebel only gets cuter and cuter each day!
This little guy was born on June 1st and is doing great with house and crate training. He has a lot of energy but is perfectly content to hang out at your feet once he’s had proper physical and mental exercise.
Rebel would love a home with room to roam (in a fenced yard or on lead). We don’t think Rebel would do well with cats or small animals, but he loves other dogs.

We interrupt all of this puppy cuteness to remind you that Duncan is still looking for his forever home!
This talented pawpainting artist is a 3 year old, 40lb terrier mix who takes his job of terrier-ing quite seriously. He's a quirky dude who thrives in a predictable routine with plenty of physical and mental outlets (like he's getting with his foster family!). Duncan loves to play with other dogs! He goes to daycare/training twice a week and has found himself a nice little cohort of similarly play-styled buddies, who he gets so excited to go play with! He is a lot of terrier for cats, but a dog-savvy cat (who runs the show) would probably be fine. Duncan is starting to show us that he likes older kiddos, so respectful kids with dog experience in the pre-teen to teen years might a fit for Duncan.

Teddy (originally from Mississippi) has been with his forever family for three months now. We absolutely love this update from his mom! “We have had Teddy for about 3 months, he filled a huge hole in our heart and he is the absolute best addition to our family! Teddy loves to play fetch with his boy, go for walks while his boy scooters next to him, and relax and swim at the lake, go for boat rides and be with his family. Teddy has finished one round of puppy school and is halfway through the second round! We couldn’t have asked for a better dog to join our family, he has filled our home with love, laughter, and so many snuggles”

Our Catahoula mix puppies Glory, Hero, Rebel and Sam would like to wish everyone a happy NATIONAL DOG DAY!
These available puppies were born on the 1st of June and can range from total balls of energy to snuggle puddles as they cycle through their puppy antics for the day. They all love their stuffies and love to play with other dogs. They have those sharp little puppy teeth right now, so other dogs may not love THAT part of the puppy antics cycle (wink wink). Their fosters all tell us that they are doing well with crate and house training and absolutely love every person they meet.

What a day! It was a beautiful day and Pet Rock in the Park was definitely rockin'!
Adoptable Hero was such a good boy. He was certainly popular and ate up all of the attention and excitement, so much so that he had to take a couple of power naps and seemed to wake up even cuter! Hero may have been the show-stealer of the whole entire event. Maybe we're biased, but he definitely stole all the hearts.
We love catching up with our alum! Beau (fka Ken) hung out with us and was a total blast. Louie (fka Lloyd) is such a cool dude and we loved seeing him again this year, just like Missy too! It was sweet of Sadie to stop by and say hello, what a face!

Hero is a 12 week old Catahoula mix who is eagerly and enthusiastically looking for his forever home. This guy is ALL puppy on the go-go-go. One of the other Mississippi Bear cub pups, Toby (fka Tobias) has also celebrated being in his forever home for six months!
His mom shared this update with us: Toby is doing great - he is still the very happy boy we welcomed into our family 6 months ago. He is so loved by all of us.
He likes to dig holes in the yard so we have to keep him busy by throwing his ball or frisbee. Playing with the water coming out of the hose is a favorite – he is slowly warming up to the kiddie pool but isn’t all in yet.
He loves to go for car rides to Bass Pro Shop where he soaks up all of the attention he gets. My daughter just took him to Starbucks for his first pup cup and he loved it so that will become a regular stop on the way to the dog park.
Toby’s latest obsession is with a rabbit family that have take up residence in our garden – he wants to play with them so bad but they are not interested in playing with him (you will see in one of the pictures he is looking out the window at the rabbit).

Fun update on Bear, one of the appropriately nicknamed Bear Cub litter of puppies who came to us from Mississippi. This was such a sweet and cute litter, and it turns out that they all maintained their serious snuggle bug status!
We love this six month update from Bear's mom: "Bear is doing amazing! He’s such a special part of the family. He’s much bigger than we expected, already bigger than our 4 year old pup! He’s so so loving and snuggly and so playful. We’ve never experienced a dog that loves to snuggle as much as he does! lol Also he’s amazing with our toddler and she loves him so much."

HAPPY GOTCHA DAY TO FRODO!
Frodo is a true fan favorite. This guy waited (patiently) months and months for someone to be interested in him. It was a mystery to us because we all knew what a wonderful dog he was. Well, his luck finally turned one year ago and he found the most perfect forever family who welcomed him with open hearts, lots of awesome adventures, and an endless supply of beach sand to flop around in. This Mississippi boy embraced the good life on the Coast of Maine. We just love this guy and we love getting updates from his family.
From his Mom: "Frodo continues to spread his love and joy to every person he meets! He's an excellent hugger and snuggler. We often find him and our daughter sharing a dog bed or the couch, they follow each other all over our yard and he's the only dog we've met who listens to her, and he pulls us both on the kick sled in the winter! He and our other dog are the very best of friends, and he has learned how to sleep on the TOP cushions of the couch from her. He loves car and boat rides, and gets to chase waves to his heart's content on the islands in Muscongus Bay. He seems to take particular pleasure in getting fully soaked then covering himself in sand. We also discovered the source of his love for treeing small animals--he's 1/4 Mountain Cur, bred for the task! He's gotten much better with the horses, we can trust him to stick around, and I hope to introduce him to mountain biking soon. We love him so much, every day is full of love and adventure with him!"

Adoptable Baby Banjo is ready to go whenever, and wherever you are!
Banjo is a hound mix puppy estimated to be about 6 months old. Banjo was found as a stray so we don't have much history on him but he is such a great pup! His foster describes him as "happy-go-lucky" and says that he is very easy. Banjo is polite and gentile. He loves other dogs and is great with every person he has met, so kiddos are probably fine for him. We're not sure about cats. He doesn't have a strong prey-drive, but hounds and cats can be iffy, and he hasn't had any exposure to cats as of yet. Banjo walks well on a leash, loves to ride in the car (securely in the back seat when he's not pretending to be co-pilot) and is fully house trained. He is a perfect little Puppy Gentleman ready to find his forever home.

Pet Rock in the Park is held annually to raise funds for canine cancer research. It is a rockin' event with local businesses, non profits, rescues and shelters alongside several food trucks, live music and neat dog demos. We will post our available dogs who will be attending a few days before. It is always so fun for us when our alum stop by and say hello too!

Aspiring Brew-Dog Otis is looking for his forever home here in New England! This guy heard that there are over 160 breweries here in Maine and wants to frequent one. You’ll see from this “live-on-the-scene” video, he’s hit the Brew-Dog campaign trail already with his North Carolina foster, and he gets our vote for sure! Otis is about 6 years old, a bigger guy at 75lbs and loves being with dogs and all people. He’s a perfect gentleman and would be a great addition to any home. Adopters aren’t *required* to enjoy craft beer, it’s just a bonus for Otis if you do. For more info on Otis, check out his bio on our website?
Henry's happy dance
When Henry first arrived in Maine a few months ago, he went by the name Scruffy, and he was terrified of everything. Even getting into a car was an ordeal for him. Luckily, he was able to decompress in one of our amazing foster homes, and little by little, his cute, spunky personality began to emerge. Then, life got even better when the perfect application came along and Henry was adopted! His mom sent us the sweetest update recently: Henry is doing fantastic! We are starting school at the end of the month, but he knows sit/ down/ come/ gentle/ do you need help? Henry loves to chase balls, but has yet to bring one back. He loves to run run his zoomies out at the park & has a best buddy, Boomer, and he has play dates with most weekends! (His favorite game is to shove toys under the couch & then can’t reach!) He is doing great with staying home for short periods. I’ve attached a video of his Super Wiggle greeting after I had to pop into office for a few hours… I hope the quality is ok, it’s really good for a giggle. It’s also pretty similar to his dinner time dance!! He’s learning that car rides are not so scary when they end up at the park or a play date or the pet store! He did have to be mildly sedated for his vaccine appt, as he had to go in alone with new sights/ spells/ people.. but my vet was great about getting his meds & getting shots done.. with some help of peanut butter 😊 Please feel free to share/ post any photos, I’m so happy Henry’s found his way to my home!

Almost Home Rescue of New England is an all-breed canine rescue group located in Maine and New Hampshire. We are 501 (c) 3 nonprofit, dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs.
Most of AHR’s dogs have come from overcrowded shelters in Arkansas and most recently Mississippi; however, we also take dogs from local shelters, veterinarians, and other situations that require rescue. All of our imported dogs arrive with a current Health Certificate, meet Maine and New Hampshire state import and vaccination requirements, are wormed, micro-chipped, and transported on an U.S.D.A. approved transport. We are an all volunteer run organization. All the dogs listed are either still waiting in Arkansas, Tennessee, or Mississippi Shelters, or they are in New England Foster Homes waiting to be adopted
