This is what I found in the middle of the night. My son snuck out of his room to snuggle Bones, both of them fast asleep 💜 Then this morning I woke up to Bones on the floor next to my bed. This means he pulled himself through two rooms that have linoleum floors, not an easy task for a partially paralyzed cat! He's been all over the place suddenly. I'm so happy that he continues to improve 😻
When I say Bones is spoiled, I don't think anyone outside of our house could possibly understand just how much he's pampered. There are six kids, with a lot of friends in and out, and two adults.. every single one of them fawn over this guy. He soaks it up!! 💞😻
It's been on year today that we found our sweet Bones! He went through a lot right in the beginning and came out of it such a loving cat. I have complete faith in him that he'll do it again. Today I found him sitting completely upright in his bed, on both front paws, and not even shaky. So proud of our guy ❤️

Bones is proof of how powerful love is. Our love for him kept us hopeful and fighting for him. Bones' love for his family kept him hanging on through the worst. I can't wait to see how much more he improves in the weeks and months to come!
Because he requires constant care, he goes everywhere with us! We started with short trips and now he mostly sleeps through car rides after he's settled in and been held a little.
Since then he has continued to improve. He can pull himself around with his front legs as long as he's on carpet. His remaining back leg is still immobile for the most part. He has started to resist a little when we do his physical therapy and it's je**ed ever so slightly here and there. He still can't go to the bathroom on his own. I express his bladder for him and help him sit up to eat. He can balance himself from there though and has started to pull himself to the water dish!
It only took 13 days for Bones to learn how to eat on his own again. At that point I was hand feeding him. I started slow with some of his favorite things. Little by little, he figured it out.
The vet felt a blockage in his intestines and confirmed it with an X-ray. He went in to surgery that afternoon. By that evening they called and said that he seemed to have improved slightly, but they had put a feeding tube in him, and wanted to keep him over night. The next day I went in to learn how to feed him. When I walked in he saw me and lifted his head. I was over the moon with happiness in that moment. It was more than I could have dared to hope for!
I had force fed him kitten replacement milk as much as I could, gently, and without causing him too much stress. We kept him comfortable, I packed him around outside, let him lay in the grass, trying to keep him stimulated. He would purr and meow weakly, he was still with us. Three days later we went back to the vet. They couldn't believe he had hung on.
On Mothers Day the vet called and told us he didn't expect Bones to live through the night and that we should come say our goodbyes. Instead of having him euthanized, I decided to bring him home to pass with his family around him, since he wasn't in pain. In truth, I just wasn't ready to give up on him.
After surgery he wasn't coming out of it and instead wouldn't move at all. The veterinarian wanted to keep him through the weekend and give him fluids. At this point they weren't sure why he was so sick.
At almost a year old, Bones got his leg stuck between the slats of our neighbors fence. He was rushed to the vet immediately. They cleaned him up and told us to bring him back in a few days for a check up. At that check up it was clear they had to amputate.
We had intended to find Bones a forever home, like we have done with several other rescued cats, but it quickly became clear that Bones and my middle son shared a special bond. They slept together every night, Bones would even seem to know when the bus would come and be waiting to run up and greet my son after he got off the bus. Bones was a keeper!
On July 11th, 2016, we found a very sick kitten under our neighbors camper. It took a couple hours, a cat trap, and a cat sounds app on my phone to lure him out. He was a love right from the beginning. He was malnourished, had a bad eye infection, and covered with ringworm. It was so bad that I didn't think he whiskers on one side would ever grow back, but they did!
