With the recent unveiling of horse abuse that has been going on behind the scenes by professional riders, it is more important now than ever to take a stand against this type of behavior. The actions of Charlotte Dujardin and others are inexcusable and highlight just how badly action needs to be taken for the well-being of these horses. Professional riders such as the ones that have been exposed for using abusive techniques and actions with their horses are the face of this sport and are the examples that those new to the sport and industry first look up to and admire. It is imperative that people in such a position be held accountable for their actions to set a good example for those who look up to them and for the equine industry as a whole. To push for changes to be made Raleigh Link has created a petition on Change.org where advocates can go to have their voices heard. This petition calls for three main changes to be implemented including removing “Equestrian Events from the Olympics: Until comprehensive reforms are implemented and enforced…,” implementing “Stricter Welfare Regulations…,” and increasing “Transparency and Accountability: Ensure that all incidents of abuse are thoroughly investigated and publicly reported, with appropriate sanctions applied.” For more information and to sign the petition and be a part of this much-needed reformation visit https://chng.it/tbh5cWvChk or scan the QR code.
