After over a year since I rescued Ben, he is now ready for a home. He is an awesome boy. The second picture is how he looked when I got him. He was in such bad shape that the shelter listed him as 17 years old when he was only 6. He was malnourished, heartworm positive, and had entropion surgery on both eyes. The only issue I have had with Ben is that he can food aggressive with other dogs. and needs to be fed separately. If you are interested in Ben and would like to adopt or foster, please send me an email at [email protected].

Thank you to everyone who came out Saturday and visited our area. It was a beautiful day, and it was so good to see so many of our friends and fellow dog lovers again. Thank you, Jeannie Snyder, for taking these awesome pictures and her little elf, Sugar Valley, who welcomed everyone. It was such a wonderful start to this holiday season. We hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season. Thank you again for sharing this day with us.

Here's a great way to support rescues and purchase things from a great company. Chewy.com has been supporting rescues for years. I've heard so many stories when people have lost their pets but had ordered something from Chewy. Instead of returning the items, they've asked them to donate the item to a rescue and then refund their money. They even sent flowers to a friend of mine when her dog passed. I have created a wish list for For the Love of Dogs. Just click on the link and type in For the Love of Dogs. There are several other rescues by that name, but we are in Dayton, TN. The prices are not always cheaper, but you can set things up on auto ship and save a little money. I love auto ship, I always get notified when an order is about to be shipped. You can cancel that one, change the date, change the order, etc. They have made it such a simple process. I don't think I have ever known of a company as supportive of rescue as Chewy.com. Check it out.

Our little Birdie flew right on over the rainbow bridge yesterday.
Birdie was found "running at large" in rural TN (in early 2020) and taken to a veterinarian who contacted me. Birdie has been in foster care at Camp Chihuahua since then.
Birdie ran a million miles of zoomies around the backyard, she made lots of friends, sat on the couch and binge-watched the b**b tube with the rest of the seniors, she went camping, and she was fed EVERYTHING she wanted by hand.
We miss her already. She was tiny and feisty. Her back-up foster, Judy Sigmon, tried to get her on a better diet right up until Birdie spit a green bean halfway across the room. So she got her chicken nuggets.
For the Love of Dogs was so grateful that we were chosen to save this sweet little Birdie. She has been with Jeannie Snyder since we picked her up from the vet. During her short time with us (around 2 years) Birdie has lived and been loved at Camp Chihuahua. As the saying goes, she fell into the good life there. She was surrounded by nothing but love and Chihuahuas and the many fosters that have passed through there. We miss you, sweet girl, and know that you and Baby Phatz are running zoomies at the Rainbow Bridge. You were loved by many, Little One.

Please keep our friend, Jeannie Snyder, in your prayers as she mourns the loss of BB Phatz. Jeannie and I both love seniors, and we also realize we may not have them very long. We had this conversation recently about how often we have been told by vets that the dogs may not be around long. Only God knows how long they will be with us, and most of ours live years instead of months with us. These sweet babies thrive on love and security, and Jeannie provided that and more to this sweet baby. I loved Phatz from the moment I met her. She reminded me of a mini husky. She was funny, perky, and just a delight to be around. So please wrap Jeannie in your love, thoughts and prayers as she mourns the loss of this sweet baby. We will miss you, Sweet BB Phatz.💔💔💔🐾🐾🐾🐾💔💔💔💔

Yesterday our little Carlee had a follow up vet visit after her amputation. Her veterinarian was quite impressed with how quickly she is healing from her surgery and how easily she seems to be adjusting to life with three legs.

Carlee's amputation was the last step in her long treatment process. When we pulled her from Catoosa Shelter nearly one year ago we never expected her to have so many medical issues that needed to be addressed but Carlee has been worth EVERY MINUTE OF TIME and EVERY DOLLAR spent to get her where she is today.

We are truly grateful to all who have supported Carlee throughout her journey. We certainly could not have done it without the support, donations, prayers, and love.

Carlee has an upcoming extended meet and greet. No pressure on her potential adopter but it truly would be the perfect home for Carlee if things work out. If not, no worries, Carlee will return to her foster home.

Again, thank you all so much for your support of this rescue and our little angels like Carlee.

We are very sad to report our sweet little Jade passed away the night before last. She only recently displayed concerning medical issues, to include passing out. An appointment was quickly made with the vet and she was diagnosed with heart failure. We were all worried she would not even make it through bloodwork and other tests because she was so upset and that was adding stress on her fragile heart. Our very compassionate veterinarian said "I am praying for your and this little dog."

Jade came home, had dinner, one dose of her meds, and was gone shortly there after. While we are relieved she died at home we were certainly hoping for more time with her. Never understood was she wasn't adopted. She went to several adoption events with us (when we could still do that sort of thing). She was beautiful, affectionate, and a pleasure to have at the rescue.

Rest in Peace little Princess Jade. We will see you at the Rainbow Bridge.

We are grateful to South Rhea Animal Hospital and ALL of our supporters/followers/likers/adopters/donators who allow us to continue providing a safe and loving place (and sometimes their last stop on this earth) to our sweet seniors.

Last February we pulled a sad little Boston/Chi mix from a shelter in North GA. She had been brought in as a stray. We figured she would be easy to quickly find a good home for but a visit to the vet revealed she had many medical issues that needed to be addressed to include heartworms and a broken leg which, according to the vet, required amputation. A treatment plan was laid out.

"Complicated" Carlee went straight from the shelter to foster and has since been successfully treated for skin issues, an infected injury to her neck, heartworms, and she has been spayed. Carlee has all the while been flourishing in foster care! She is a FB and IG star. She loves other dogs, humans, and life in general. Carlee is certainly grateful to FTLOD and everyone who has donated to her care and supported her long journey.

Now it's time for Carlee's amputation, the last phase of her treatment plan. Since quite some time has passed since her original diagnosis we wondered if maybe the leg had started healing and if we could avoid putting her through amputation. New x-rays show the leg has NOT healed. A second veterinary opinion told us almost exactly what we heard the first time: amputation is necessary.

So with all that said, tomorrow is the big day. Include Carlee in your prayers. She will be delivered to South Rhea Animal Hospital by a wailing, snot-slinging foster mom and Dr. Price will conduct her surgery.

Thank you so much for all the kind words of sympathy. Chico had been adopted and was returned to us about a year ago. His owner was working very long days, and Chico was being crated all that time. Chico was so happy to have free run of the house and a doggy door again. It was such a joy to watch him. I knew I wouldn’t have him long as he was at least 17 when he was returned to us. Noelle came to us last year about this time. Her owner had passed away. It took her a while to feel at home here, but she loved her doggy friends and exploring outside. Our hearts are broken, but we are so thankful to have had them as part of our rescue. I know there was a For the Love of Dogs reunion at the Rainbow Bridge this week. We miss you but know you are running free and happy. Love you, sweet babies. 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

In less than 48 hours we lost two of our beloved seniors. Chico was around 19 and Noel lived a good long life as well. With that said, we are still heartbroken. They were part of our family and they will truly be missed.

REST IN PEACE Chico and Noel. We will see you on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. 🌈

To celebrate my BIRTHDAY MONTH, I’m asking for donations to support For the Love of Dogs (For the Love of Dogs-Tennessee on Facebook). In addition to the everyday and ongoing expenses of operating a rescue, we just took in Chihuahuas from a hoarding situation in Murray County. They have been vaccinated but will need to be spayed. Then they will be ready for their forever homes.

The move to Dayton has been exciting but time consuming, challenging and expensive. The kennel is a work in progress. It is temporarily covered in tarps but will need work on something more permanent as it gets colder. Fortunately, the high winds last night did not undo all of our work.

Donations can be made to PayPal at [email protected] or can be mailed to For the Love of Dogs, PO Box 663, Dayton, TN 37321.

So grateful to everyone for your support throughout the years.
Pictures include the 5 new dogs and some of our sweet seniors.

We were asked to help with a large number of Chihuahuas that came from a situation in Murray Co. GA. We moved around some of our seniors and a piece of furniture in order to make room. It's just hard to say no when you see their little faces. We took in 5 females. Not all of them have names yet but we suspect once they have time to decompress and get spayed, all will be adoptable.

Thanks to Perry's Promise for getting them to us safely and to TN Pet Placement Center for taking some of these babies as well. Stayed tuned for more info and pictures.
