Red Barn Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit organization located in Clayton, NC dedicated to saving dogs and puppies from shelter euthanasia. Most of the dogs in our rescue are saved from high kill shelters, some were homeless and abandoned. We are volunteer run, and take pride in adopting wonderful dogs into loving homes. 💔 Daffy Needs a Soft Place to Land 💔

Sweet senior daschund, Daffy, has heartbreakingly outlived her owner. We won’t pretend her past care has been the best… but despite it all, she is healthy, gentle, and ready for a fresh start. Red Barn Rescue will make sure her vetting is fully up to date so she can step into her next chapter feeling her best.

Daffy is around 10 years old, dog friendly, cat friendly, and so incredibly sweet — but she is also sad and clearly missing having a person to love.

Is there anyone out there with room in both their home and their heart to show this precious girl what comfort and kindness really feel like?

Fizzie is working off her Thanksgiving turkey dinner the best way she knows how… FETCH! This silly, sweet girl had an absolute blast playing in the yard!

Fizzie would love a foster home — or even better, a forever family — to keep her cozy, active, and loved. A little time in a home helps us learn so much about her personality, and she deserves all the comfort after being such a good girl at the barn!

✅ OK in small amounts:

• Plain turkey (no skin/bones)
• Plain veggies (green beans, carrots, sweet potato, pumpkin)

❌ Not safe:

• Turkey skin/bones
• Stuffing or casseroles
• Grapes/raisins
• Chocolate or desserts
• Gravy, ham, bacon
• Alcohol

And remember to keep ID on your dogs at all times, and be careful opening doors and gates for guests during your festivities!🧡

Pumpkin is the sweetest little snugglebug you’ll ever meet. She's around 2 years-old, a "smaller than she looks" 30-pounds, and a lovely girl who blossomed in just half a day in her foster home—her gentle s***k and happy energy shine through now!

Pumpkin LOVES naps, her cozy dog bed, and cuddling up with her humans. She’s been a total dream in her foster home: no crate needed, no chewing, and zero accidents. She’s also been polite with other dogs—she’s happy to say hello and may play a bit, but we’re still learning how playful she really wants to be. For now, she’s perfectly content just sharing space calmly with them. When she’s not snoozing or hugging her plush toys, she enjoys brisk walks, rolling around in the grass, and sun-bathing like the queen she is.

Pumpkin can be sensitive to loud noises like trucks, so a quieter environment or patient reassurance during those moments will help her feel secure as she adjusts to the sights and sounds of her new world.

She’s playful, affectionate, and wonderfully easygoing—truly the perfect mix. Pumpkin is spayed, house-trained, and ready for her furever family.

✨ Sneak Peek: Meet Bear! ✨

We’re excited to give you an early look at Bear, our adorable young Lab mix! He’s under a year old, dog-friendly, athletic, and so much fun to be around. This sweet guy has energy to spare, a happy spirit, and a big heart already winning over everyone who meets him. 💛🐾

We’re still getting to know him, but we can already tell he’s going to make an amazing companion. Bear will be neutered soon and then officially ready to meet potential adopters!

❤️ Bear would also love a foster home while he waits for his forever family. Time spent in a foster home is incredibly helpful—it lets us learn how a dog does in a real home environment. Your home could make all the difference for him!

Sweet Rocky Red has officially found his forever family — and we couldn’t be happier for him!

This handsome hound boy stole hearts everywhere he went. The adoption photo says it all: Rocky glowing with joy, his amazing foster mom beaming with pride, and his new dad ready to give him the life every dog deserves.

A huge thank-you to his foster mom for loving him, guiding him, and helping him shine. Foster homes truly make happy endings like this possible!

Rodney is thriving in his foster home! 🌟

This sweet boy is doing so much better on his walks and loves checking in with his foster like the good boy he is. He’s settling in beautifully with the resident pack, learning the routine, and showing just how wonderful a young dog he truly is.

Meet Poet — a gentle little soul with a whole lot of love to give. 💛

This 16-pound sweetheart is the definition of easygoing: he enjoys calm walks, cozy laps, tasty snacks, and the simple comforts of being near his people. He’s friendly with other dogs, indifferent to cats, and not high-energy — the perfect companion for anyone wanting a low-maintenance buddy.

Poet came to us thin and flea-bitten, but those days are behind him. With good care and kindness, he has blossomed into a healthy, happy boy. He’s estimated to be around 5 years old and is likely a Beagle/Chihuahua mix.

Poet is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, fully vaccinated, and ready for a fresh start. If you’re looking for a gentle, grateful companion who takes life in stride, Poet might be your perfect match. 🐾

What a night! 🐾❤️

Thank you to .designs and Deep River Brewing Company for hosting such a fun Pupsgiving event benefiting Red Barn Rescue!

Our dogs had an amazing time soaking up the attention, meeting new people, and getting some great exposure. And a special shout-out to Elvis, who won the pie-eating contest! 🥧👑 We’re so proud of our handsome champ!

Huge thanks to everyone who came out to support us, to Pawsitivity and Deep River for putting it all together, and Michelle for organizing our volunteers. Our fosters and volunteers show up to make sure our dogs are enriched, loved, and one step closer to finding their forever homes. 💛🐶 We are blessed!

Our Story

Red Barn Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit, volunteer-supported dog rescue organization serving Clayton NC, Johnston County and the surrounding area. We are principally dedicated to rescuing adoptable dogs who are at high risk for euthanasia in public animal shelters. On a case-by-case basis (and as space permits), we also take in stray dogs and those surrendered to us due to the hardships of their families who can no longer care for them (in order to keep them from being surrendered to the shelter, where they would be at risk for euthanasia).

Some of our rescued dogs are in foster homes and some are housed in our onsite kennel, on our private, residential property. For this reason we do not have “public hours” and schedule meet-and-greets with approved adopters to meet the dogs.
