Red Barn Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving dogs and puppies from shelter euthanasia in North Carolina. This $5 Friday: Comfort for Pets Affected by Hurricane Helene 🐶🐱

Miles (adoptable through Red Barn Rescue!) and his foster brother, Rooney, enjoy the simple comforts of a dog bed. 🥰 But not every dog is so lucky right now. Hurricane Helene has left countless families still struggling to rebuild their lives, and for many, their beloved pets are one of the few sources of comfort they have left. Misfit Mountain, an animal rescue and sanctuary in western NC, has been stepping up to help with their pet pantry, providing food and supplies to those in need.

Recently, a friend of Red Barn who volunteers for Misfit Mountain shared with us that one of the most requested items by people coming to the pantry right now is dog beds—a small but powerful way to bring comfort and a sense of normalcy to pets whose families have lost everything.

Instead of our usual $5 Friday this weekend, we’re asking followers to consider ordering a dog bed from the online store of your choice and having it shipped to Misfit Mountain, or send them a donation to support their efforts. Let’s help these families hold their furry friends a little closer as they navigate this challenging time!

Angie is a graceful and active young dog who adores her people. She’s confident, smart, and friendly—a wonderful companion all around. With moderate energy levels, Angie would thrive with an owner who can take her on daily walks and play fetch a few times a day. A fenced yard would be ideal, as she loves to sprint around when she gets the zoomies! Angie has enjoyed lots of car rides, park visits, and adoption events for socialization, thanks to one of our volunteers. She gets along well with male dogs and would likely be fine with females, given a slow introduction.

Angie resembles a miniature husky at just 36 pounds and 2 years old. Her DNA test shows she’s 63% husky, with a mix of other herding breeds.

Angie is spayed, fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, and ready to find her forever family. Apply at redbarnrescue.com today!

That is the answer I'd give if you were to ask me how many people stopped to pet and admire Inca at PetSense on Saturday and had said "He is perfect! How is he not adopted yet?"

Inca is calm, affectionate, nearly unflappable! This 2 year old boxer mix is under 50 pounds and sports the CUTEST little underbite. He is well behaved and enjoys a good game of fetch. He is even dog and cat friendly! We can't figure out why he isn't getting adoption interest! Hmmmm...I suppose no one is looking for a nearly perfect dog? 😏 What are you waiting for?!

🐾🌟 It's National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week! 🌟🐾

This week, let’s honor the dedication of our local animal shelters and the compassionate people who keep them running. Every day, shelter staff and volunteers work tirelessly to provide care, hope, and a second chance for animals in need. They have a challenging job, yet their love for animals keeps them coming back, ready to give their best.

Shelters are the backbone of animal welfare in our communities, but they can't do it alone. If you’ve ever felt that your local shelter is stretched too thin or that the animals there deserve more, know that many shelters operate under county or city control. To create change, it’s crucial to vote for leadership that supports stronger animal welfare resources.

You can also make an impact in other ways:

💙 Volunteer: Shelters need extra hands for dog-walking, cat socializing, cleaning, and organizing. Even a few hours a week can make a world of difference!

💙 Donate: Many shelters have ongoing needs for supplies like pet food, blankets, and cleaning products. Check with your local shelter to see what’s on their wishlist.

💙 Adopt: Bringing home a shelter pet gives them a fresh start and opens up space for another animal in need. Adopting from a shelter reduces the number of animals waiting for rescues like ours to step in!

Here's Harley girl doing her daily leash training. This precious pup is ready for her forever home. Name: Harley (short for Harlequin) Code Name: I'll Follow You Anywhere Aliases: Miss Kisses, Hushpuppy, Tagalong Age: approximately 16-17 weeks Loves: belly rubs, cuddles, giving kisses, playing with anything This girl is so trusting she snoozes on her back much of the time. She frequently shows her cute belly, stopping in the middle of playtime for belly rubs. Favorite toys: cardboard boxes, squeaky/plushie She has an adorable howling yawn when she wakes up and will tell you she's hungry, needs to potty, or wants to play. She'd love a fenced yard because she adores to run and play, but she'll be happy wherever you are. She loves other dogs and craves companionship, so someone with another friendly, happy-go-lucky dog would be ideal. She recently spent the weekend with two Labrador retrievers and two cats. She was fine with the cats (mostly shied away from them) and loved the dogs. She's easygoing and will follow you anywhere. She very much wants to please her people and is quick learner and quite trainable. Other important info: Potty training is going well. Harley and her sister Penny sleep through the night (9 hours) without accidents. Her schedule is pretty regular and accidents are extremely rare. According to online puppy weight predictors, Harley is likely to be a medium-sized dog (42-52 pounds). Finally, she has the prettiest markings of any black and white puppy we've ever seen, and she has a sweet, jolly, accommodating nature. Harley is the best pup!

Although he’ll never be a happy-go-lucky dog, Rocky has always been people-friendly, eager to please, and trainable. We don’t know how he became so distrustful of other dogs at such a young age, but he has made great strides in not reacting to other dogs he sees on his walks, and trusting his human handlers to keep him safe. Rocky will be a delightful companion for someone who understands his limitations with other dogs. Our Story

Red Barn Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit, volunteer-supported dog rescue organization serving Clayton NC, Johnston County and the surrounding area. We are principally dedicated to rescuing adoptable dogs who are at high risk for euthanasia in public animal shelters. On a case-by-case basis (and as space permits), we also take in stray dogs and those surrendered to us due to the hardships of their families who can no longer care for them (in order to keep them from being surrendered to the shelter, where they would be at risk for euthanasia).

Some of our rescued dogs are in foster homes and some are housed in our onsite kennel, on our private, residential property. For this reason we do not have “public hours” and schedule meet-and-greets with approved adopters to meet the dogs.
