HELLO SNOW DAY ☃️❄️ Since we’ve had some colder temps and snow, scroll down for info and tips on cold weather walking and keeping your pooch safe. 💚

Any temperature below -4•c is dangerous for dogs of all shapes and sizes; above that you should be able to make a good judgement on which precautions to take.

It is important to remember all dogs are different – older, younger, small to medium breeds, and short-haired dogs are more at risk of developing frostbite or hypothermia on winter walks so try to limit walks to 15-20 minutes.

Here are our 5 tips to keep your pooch safe this winter ⬇️

Tip One: If it’s snowing, keep your dog on a lead
There may be deep patches or holes, or the snow may cover areas that aren’t safe. Keeping your dog on a lead to protect and prevent them from falling and hurting themselves.

Tip Two: Use dog jumpers, coats, boots, or socks to place a barrier between them and the cold. This will keep them warmer and dryer – monitor your pet to avoid overheating.

Tip Three: Make sure you wipe your dog’s legs, feet and stomach after a walk, as grit from the roads and dampness from rain or snow can irritate their skin.

Tip Four: Don’t let your dog walk on frozen ponds
The ice may not be thick enough to take their weight. If your dog does fall through the ice never be tempted to go in after them. If possible, encourage them to swim back to you and call the emergency services.

Tip Five: Try and prevent them from grazing or licking ice and snow – these commonly contain toxic chemicals that can be fatal for your pet if ingested in certain amounts.

Be careful out there, stay safe and enjoy snow! ❄️💚
