As we begin our 20th year of rescuing dogs, we are sadly forced to close down intake until further notice. Unfortunately our vet has temporarily suspended our account until we can make a considerable dent on our outstanding balance of $15,372.77.
We are reaching out to you, our supporters, for your help at this time.
We don't take this step lightly - we know what this means for the many dogs & puppies on our waiting list. :( We haven't had to take this step often over the past 19+ years but today we are forced to plead for your help.

Please consider helping us to continue our efforts! Every donation, large or small, will make a difference!

There are several ways that you can help:
1) Make a donation directly to our veterinarians at:
Plessis Vet, 1783 Plessis Road (in person donations)
204-691-8838 (credit card donations)
*Make sure to specify MASR account please*
2) Etransfer to our treasurer at:
[email protected]
3) Mail a cheque to our treasurer at:
MASR Treasurer
1030 Boyd Avenue
Winnipeg MB R2X 1A1

We are unfortunately not able to issue receipts at this time.

THE FORGOTTEN DOG'S CHRISTMAS POEM

Twas the night before Christmas
when all thru the house
Not a creature was stirring
not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
In hopes that St. Nick soon would be there.
The children all nestled snug in their beds
With no thought of the dog filling their head.
And mom in her kerchief and I in my cap
Knew the dog was cold, but didn’t care about that.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash
Figuring the dog was free of his chain and into the trash.
The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow
gave the luster of mid-day to objects below.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But Santa Claus with his eyes full of tears.
He unchained the dog once so lively and quick
Last year’s Christmas present now painfully sick.
More rapid than eagles he called the dog’s name
and the dog ran to him despite all his pain.
Now Dasher, now Dancer, now Prancer and V***n
On Comet on Cupid on Donner and Blitzen.
To the top of the porch to the top of the wall
Let’s find this dog a home where he will be loved by all.
I knew in an instant there would be no gifts this year
For Santa had made one thing quite clear.
The gift of a dog is not just for the season
We had gotten the dog for all the wrong reasons.
In our haste to think of the kids a gift
There was one important thing we missed
A dog should be family, and cared for the same
You don’t give a gift, then put it on a chain.
And I heard him explain as he rode out of site,
“You weren’t given a gift, you were given a life.”

This beautiful girl is a young female German Shepherd that we have been asked to help. Holly was abandoned with her one pup in a rural community, where she was found with an embedded string tied around her neck. The string has been removed and medical treatment was given. The pup has found placement but Holly is still waiting. She is currently safe in a TEMPORARY home but we are hoping to bring her into our care.
Holly is described as very sweet and gentle. Can anyone offer Holly a holiday miracle and foster this beautiful girl for us?
Please apply (link below) if you can help!

Introducing Jessie, a one year old female German Shepherd.
Jessie recently flew into our care from a northern community after her owners moved and left behind their two dogs to fend for themselves. :( Thankfully a concerned community member reached out for help and kept the two dogs safe until help could be found.
Only having one committed foster home available meant we could only help one of the two girls. (We have since found another foster home and were able to have Shirley fly in today.)
Beautiful Jessie is settling in very nicely and enjoying the comforts provided to her by her foster family. She is a lovely girl and will eventually make someone a wonderful best friend.
Jessie is not yet available for adoption and we are not accepting applications for her at this time. But watch for her pretty face at upcoming adoption events in the new year!

(Please consider opening your heart and home to a rescue dog in need and apply to become a foster home! It truly is the difference between life or death for so many deserving animals.)

JESSIE
Beautiful Jessie is a one year old female German Shepherd with an estimated date of birth of February 17, 2023.
Jessie was one of two dogs left behind in a northern community when their owners moved & left the two girls behind to fend for themselves. Thankfully a concerned community member reached out for help, and we were able to have Jessie flown to us.
Jessie bears the scars of a hard life already, even though she is only one year old. She is settling into her foster home nicely and thoroughly enjoying having a warm, safe home & regular meals.
Jessie is not yet available for adoption yet and we are not accepting applications for her at this time.
(Yes, we were able to help the other dog too!)

Congratulations Kimber! Our beautiful girl Kimber was returned to our care in May (after the death of her owner), weighing in at a whopping 110 pounds. Kimber was immediately put on a strict diet and exercise plan, and 7 months later, she is down to 75 pounds!
This is a tremendous achievement and has restored Kimber's good health & happiness.
We are so grateful to Kimber's foster family for putting a plan in place and sticking to it. Only 5 more pounds to lose and Kimber will hit her target weight. Great job everyone!
