I love this podcast episode so much! learning from great trainers in other disciplines always involves changing a mindset and becoming teachable which shows up 100% in how your horse responds. Andrea Fappani has really impressed me. What a humble guy that has become a great trainer and competitor. Episode 28

We’ve heard this statement before
“ a beginning rider wants to work on intermediate skills, and intermediate rider wants to work on advanced skills, but the advanced rider works the on the basics “
Most people would agree with this, but few people practice it.
Strong foundation basics build a horses confidence and understanding, which builds your confidence in him.
Advanced skill in any sport flows naturally when a STRONG understanding of the basics is constantly applied.

"I AM The I"
"I" come forth from the void into light,
"I" am the breath that nurtures life,
"I" am that emptiness, that hollowness beyond all consciousness, the "I", the Id, the All.
"I" draw my bow of rainbows
across the waters, the continuum of minds with matters.
"I" am the incoming and outgoing of breath, the invisible,
untouchable breeze, the undefinable atom of creation.
"I" am the "I”.

Mental Toughness Strategies

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REACT and RESPOND

Do you have the ability to tame your thoughts and act strategically in spite of fear?

The majority of people are not trained to control their focus. When pressure situations arise, they listen to the little voice of doubt in their head. Action follows thought... away from a ‘best performance’ effort. Instead, a blow to the self-image and self-confidence result.

To boost your athletic performance, you must understand the difference between reaction and response.

Reacting to a situation is an uncontrolled, escalating scenario with unknown and often undesirable outcomes.

Responding to a situation is a planned and practiced scenario of similar circumstances allowing an organized flow of action.

Think of the training that takes place for community disaster response. There is a plan in place that dictates “next actions” and it has been rehearsed so that in a real disaster there is a response not a reaction.

You can prepare your brain in a similar fashion if you actually do some thoughtful “what if... then what” rehearsals and incorporate it into your practice sessions.
