We hate to say goodbye. But after 12 years of joyfully taking care of the ferrets of Colorado, we have decided to close our doors. We lost our final two ferrets this summer. Our decision comes with a lot of soul searching, especially because the Ferret B&B has always been more of a community service than a business. We hope another Denver family will fill the void by offering boarding for our favorite creatures. Dook dook to all of you. Thank you so much for your support.

Did you see the story today about a pet ferret in Florida that tested positive for covid? While caution is important, a study published in PNAS in May (scroll for link) showed that ferrets have genetic factors that put them at low risk for natural SARS-COV-2 infection.

The study looked at a household with 29 ferrets. One adult had confirmed covid and the other was suspected. The couple handled and cared for their ferrets, age 8 months to 7.5 years, with no restrictions, and no ferrets got sick. The household happened to have enrolled in a study with Tufts that was looking at human-to-animal spillover, so they had swab kits and a scientific protocol to follow.

This study results eased my mind a little because ferrets are used in respiratory disease research, including for covid.

When the study was published, there had been only 1 confirmed case of natural infection in a ferret in the world. Remember, novelty sells newspapers.

Today I was at Petco buying cat food and stopped by the ferret enclosure. This cutie was 1 of 4. They were maybe 6 weeks old. As adorable as they were, I immediately thought about Denver's ferret rescue, Ferret Dreams Rescue & Adoption , a 501c3 nonprofit. They have *at least 60 ferrets* either in their care or in foster homes. If you're looking for a ferret, please adopt, don't shop.

This is Bernie Sanders' duck They were his favorite. He had very specific places that each duck would go, and he get irritated when I moved them, and move them back. I found the blue duck inside my office couch a few days ago. He loved to climb up inside and sleep, and apparently he needed his duck to cuddle at one time. We lost Bernie to heart disease last September. This was his hello from the other side of the Bridge.
