On Monday Winnie is having her keyhole spay and Laparoscopic Gastropexy at the same time.

You know I’m a huge advocate for raising awareness of BLOAT in deep chested breeds (chows being one of them). And after doing lots of research and speaking to the fantastic vets at I have decided to get this procedure done at the same time as her keyhole spay (this is recommend).

Laparoscopic Gastropexy is where they stitch the stomach to the body wall, preventing the stomach from twisting and causing bloat.

It can provide lifetime protection against GDV (bloat) in 95% of cases. The remaining 5% develop only bloat and not twisting of the stomach of which the mortality rate is only 1% (compared to up to 60% if bloat occurs in unprotected dogs).

This procedure is being done via keyhole for Winnie so it is much less invasive and recovery should be around 2 weeks.

I will of course update you on how she is and the recovery, but I know a lot of people don’t know about this procedure and that we can significantly cut the chances of our dogs dying from bloat and give us pawrents piece of mind (or if you’re like me and a full time stress head)😂❤️‍🩹
