WHO WE ARE

Cat Rescue & Adoption Network is an all-volunteer, non-profit, no-kill cat rescue group in Eugene/Springfield, Oregon. It began in 2006 as a program to find homes for hard to place cats from Lane County Animal Services by using PetSmart as an off-site adoption center. In 2007, West Coast Dog & Cat Rescue was incorporated as a 501©(3) group to assists with cats and dogs. In 2017, as par

t of the group’s 10th anniversary celebrations, a decision was made to change the name to more accurately reflect our work. We hadn’t worked with dogs since 2009 and had never provided services further afield than the Eugene/Springfield, Oregon and immediate surrounding area. The new logo for Cat Rescue & Adoption Network (CRAN) was officially presented to the volunteers at their July 29, 2017 volunteer appreciation Catinental breakfast, and to the public July 30, 2017. Cat Rescue & Adoption Network provides care and finds loving homes for cats and kittens in our community with a focus on those with special needs. As a no-kill program, we fully support and practice the philosophy of saving all adoptable and treatable pets. MAKE A DONATION

Adoptions

Since its inception in 2007, CRAN has rescued, cared and placed more than 3,000 abandoned and neglected cats into forever homes. We are grateful for our adoption site partners at Eugene PetSmart and Petco stores, Wags! Dog and Cat Emporium and Bobcat Pets as well as our generous volunteer foster families who offer sanctuary to cats until adoptions can be made. Special Needs Pets

We work with local humane societies, animal rescue groups and government agencies to care for their “special needs” cats. We also assist the public with cats in urgent need on a limited basis. Feral Cat Populations

Some of our volunteers can assist with Trap Neuter Return (TNR) of feral cats. TNR helps the community stabilize feral colonies and, over time, reduce their size. TNR creates more space for cats and kittens who come from other avenues. HOW CAN YOU HELP? Foster! Adopt! Donate! Handsome HUDSON is a gray-and-white teenager with large paws and striking gold eyes. He's silly and sweet by nature and will flop down comfortably when he's relaxed. It takes Hudson a little time to warm up to new people and situations, but once he's comfortable, he loves being petted and carried around over your shoulder. Hudson gets along well with other cats and would enjoy a home with a playful young kitty or dog (see photo). Since he's a little skittish when he hears loud noises, a home without young children would be ideal, although he'd probably be fine with older, cat-savvy kids. Hudson was found as a stray and brought to our cat rescue where he's been cared for in a loving foster home. Now he's ready for his own forever family. If you're looking for a sweet and playful furry buddy, Hudson might just be the one for you.

Meet sweet ASTORIA, a long-haired solid black cat with a bit of a wonky right eye that makes it look like she's squinting at you. It just makes her stand out in her uniqueness. Astoria is the perfect cat for someone looking for an easy-going companion, in a quiet home. She hit a bit of a rough patch, and was surrendered to the rescue after her owner could no longer care for her and is need of a calm, loving home to call her own again. She is independent and low maintenance. She likes looking out the window and perching someplace high for a nap. She also enjoys bumping up against people's legs to get cuddles and pets. She starts out timid but warms up fairly quickly. She has a special eye that does get crusty occasionally and will need to be wiped, but she doesn't let that slow her down. Astoria is an exceptionally rewarding cat to get to know and love, and would be a wonderful addition to the right home!

🐱 Having litter box issues with your cat?🐱

Here are 5 tips to help:

1️⃣ Vet First: Rule out any health problems like infections or arthritis.
2️⃣ Add Boxes: Have 1 box per cat + 1 extra, and keep them clean daily.
3️⃣ Place Wisely: Put boxes in quiet, low-stress spots.
4️⃣ Choose the Right Litter/Box: Try softer litter, open boxes, or bigger sizes.
5️⃣ Clean Up Right: Use enzyme cleaners to remove odors completely.

Meet KENJI, an adorable little male black and white cow kitten with the cutest black goatee and a black heart on his nose! He loves laying on laps and getting chin scratches. He also likes meeting new people and being held. He still has the normal kitten energy and is very active running around and chasing toys. He is a talker, and will tell you all about his day if you give him the time. He is very sweet and gentle, and would love a home where he can play, cuddle, and be adored by his family. KENJI would love to be adopted with his sister REN. As an active and outgoing kitten, he should be in a home with at least one other playful young kitty.

SOLSTICE and COSMIC are an adorable sister and brother bonded pair of kittens. Cosmic is an orange and white tabby (with a giant purr motor), and Solstice is a "torbie" - a combination of a tortoiseshell and a tabby. These two had a difficult and dramatic start in life. When they were about 6 weeks old they were found deep in the forest outside of Oakridge, miles from civilization, and were rescued by a fire service worker. Because of the deep trauma they endured, these kittens are understandably skittish around humans. Their foster mom has been working with them for several months, and they are well on their way to learning to love and trust people. The forever home for these kittens must be a place of calmness, gentleness and safety. These kittens will be a project initially, starting them in one room for as long as it takes for them to grow to love and feel safe with their new human(s). Eventually, once they feel safe, they will be as loving and affectionate as any tame kitties. It is crucial that steps are taken throughout their lives to be sure they never get outside, as with their PTSD they would be terrified if this were to happen. All the initial care, patience and love you devote to these kittens will be repaid a thousand-fold by the huge amount of love and devotion they will shower upon you throughout their lives!

Say hello to YOSHIRO, Yoshi for short - a black male kitten with the cutest big eyes! He loves playing with toys, and that is his number one hobby! Wand toys are his favorite, and he enjoys chasing and jumping after them. He is an explorer, and will explore new areas as soon as he gets the opportunity. He does have a softer side, and after he's played out, he likes to be held and petted. He is quick to warm up, and doesn't mind new people as long as they are in the mood to play. He is very active and would love a home where his humans will play with him until he's all tuckered out. Yoshi would love to be adopted with his brother KENJI. As an energetic young kitten, he should be in a home with a young kitty playmate to keep him busy!

Beautiful DUTCHESS lives up to her name in both temperament and appearance. She's a regal gray and white medium-haired lady with gentle yellow eyes. Her fur is soft and ready to be petted. She is a little shy upon first meeting, but she warms up quickly and then wants all the love and petting a cat of her status is due. She's a gentle and loving cat who enjoys playing with toys, especially feather toys. Sweet Dutchess is looking forward to a home where she can be loved and pampered like any nobility should.

LEMONADE is a gorgeous and fluffy young calico manx female kitty. She is a very friendly, affectionate and playful girl. She loves to be petted, and will often roll over and show you her belly. Lemonade was born with spina bifida, and CRAN sent her to a specialist in Portland who operated on her spine to correct the condition. After she healed, she was adopted and lived happily with her new family for several years until 2 new cats were added to the household, and Lemonade could not adjust. She is on a special urinary tract diet-mostly canned food. She will do best as an only cat, and because of her manx condition, she must be monitored for her lifetime. Her adopter should be experienced with long-haired cats. Lemonade is a happy and confident kitty. BEAU and MAMACITA are a marvelous mother and son bonded pair of kitties looking for a loving home. Mamacita has a beautiful mix of calico and tabby markings, while Beau is white with orange tabby spots (a cow kitty). They are fond of Churu treats and adore a front row seat for Cat TV (aka, a window to look out of). Beau also loves little toys that he can throw around and chase. Mamacita came to CRAN as a rescue with a litter of kittens, and with Beau, her oldest baby from a previous litter. All her other kittens have found homes, and now it's this pair's turn to find a devoted home to enjoy some rest and relaxation. Mamacita and Beau are both still shy and need an adopter who is willing to create a quiet and safe space for them to acclimate to their new home and get their bearings. Both are very sweet, and it will be so worthwhile to give them some time to adjust to their surroundings. They will reward you in spades with their sweet faces and affection!

FREEDOM and JUSTICE are a bonded pair of young adult brothers looking for a loving forever home. FREEDOM is a distinctive black and white tuxedo, and JUSTICE is a very large and handsome black panther! Freedom is the shy one, but he is getting friendlier every day, especially under the influence of his sociable brother Justice who has taught him how wonderful it is to receive pets and loves. These two enjoy bird watching in sunny windows, climbing the cat tower, high places to jump up to, cat caves, cat scratchers, and teaser toys. They like to play-wrestle with each other, and Freedom can hold his own with his larger brother. They are respectful of their foster mom's houseplants. These boys are scared of loud noises, loud human talking, and loud TV. They can both be shy and nervous with new people. They are intelligent and energetic, but also enjoy long naps. Freedom and Justice will thrive in a calm, quiet environment, and given time to acclimate, they will make wonderful and entertaining companions.

Last week, we shared the story of one of our newest kitties, Mitzy. When she came to us, she had a mass in her abdominal cavity that required exploratory surgery. What we discovered was heartbreaking: Mitzy had been shot. The bullet entered through her back left flank, damaging her left kidney and causing her to bleed and leak urine into her retroperitoneal space. Her body tried to heal, but the wound became infected with debris, hair, and blood.

Mitzy underwent a complex surgery to remove her damaged kidney and clean out the infected tissue. It was a complicated surgery but with some cage rest, she should recover.

We Have an Update on Mitzy!

We are happy to report we have had an update on how Mitzy is doing:

"Mitzy went to the vet yesterday and is doing well so far! Another vet appointment is scheduled next week to get her staples out. They expect her to start growing like a normal cat now and have a normal life even with the one kidney. They said she is a warrior survivor for being shot and somehow surviving like that for weeks. Resilient little queen."

Mitzy’s resilience and strength continue to amaze us. She’s on her way to living a full and happy life, and we couldn’t be prouder of her progress.

Because of our donors, we’re able to help cats like Mitzy—cats who have faced more trauma than anyone should in their lives. What would have happened to her without help is hard to even think about. Your donations allow us to provide the critical care cats like Mitzy need to survive and thrive.

** SPECIAL NEEDS CAT ** Evie is a tiny tortoiseshell young adult female cat. She is as friendly as can be! She was brought to CRAN as a bottle baby, and has been living ever since in a loving foster home. She loves water and will sit by the sink waiting for it to be turned on so she can drink and play with the water. She is super loving with other cats, dogs, and people. She is fearless and warms up quickly. Due to her petite size, she will always remain looking like a kitten.

BACKPACK and BEAN WAZOWSKI (aka BEAN) are a pair of teenage foster brothers who met and bonded in foster care. BACKPACK is the most perfect gentleman in his finest outfit of fluffy black and white tuxedo fur. He needs a few days to warm up and accept a new home but after that, he's a snuggly lovebug. He has the BEST purr in the whole world and if you brush him, it really gets loud. BACKPACK was found wandering as a single kitten in a parking lot where someone had dumped him, and then he was raised in a loving foster home. BEAN is a striking brown tabby male kitten with only one eye but without any limitations. BEAN must explore everything and anything that is within sight! Bean was brought to an emergency vet with a severely damaged left eye; the hospital removed the eye, and he was taken in by CRAN and placed into a loving foster home to recover.

SPUTNIK is a playful short-haired female brown tabby teenager kitten with lovely golden eyes and lots of love to give. When it comes to toys, she adores them all. She loves to jump up and bat her toy with feathers on a flexible wire, chase plastic springs and other toys, and play and wrestle with her siblings. After wearing herself out playing, she'll find a cozy lap to cuddle up in and nap. Sputnik and her siblings were brought to our cat rescue when their owner was no longer able to care for them. As an active young kitten, it's important that Sputnik be adopted with a sibling or into a home with another kitten or playful young cat. Sputnik is sure to bring joy and love to her new forever family.
