Last Wednesday at 1:30 am I went to the emergency room at Capitol Medical Center and was diagnosed with acute allergic response involving severe vomiting and hives, elevated blood pressure and heart rate, and trouble breathing. The ER doctor told me it was his opinion my anaphylaxis was due to my animal dander allergy. As I'm sure you all can imagine, this was a huge blow to me. I spent the following two days on a course of Benadryl, but the hives still came back. I followed up with my regular doctor and she told me she wasn't convinced the cat allergy could have caused that severe of a reaction on it's own. I have been advised to limit as much unnecessary exposure to dogs and cats as possible. I have already sacrificed my time at Feline Friends, the extra hours from working in grooming at work, and the joy of snuggling with my cats at night. I was already planning on taking a hiatus from Zen Pets for wedding planning, but now there is some question as to whether it is a good plan to start back up in August as I originally intended. I am on several different medications to control my histamine response, and have to carry an epipin in case of anaphylaxis. What is an animal lover to do? I already miss all my furry friends.
