My little Myrtle along with her big sister Merryn was out earning their dog treats being awesome stooge dogs for the wonderful Skye who has to get back into calm and steady interactions with dogs after a long rehab from a shoulder injury. So proud of Myrtle the only thing she object to was being carried when I felt she needed a break, as she was convinced she could keep up and keep going with the big dogs.

A round of applause 👏 for Skye and her owner who really did ace the session today after putting in a lot of work before she was injured getting calmness and focus around dogs,then coping with crate rest and rehab and now getting her back to normal out and about interaction with dogs without going super hyper zooming as that could risk her shoulder recovery. NAILED IT!!!

LIFESKILLS GROUPS

I have a couple of dogs already on a waiting list so am thinking of starting a couple of new groups. So for those of you who are interested can you please let me know if Monday or Wednesday evenings would best suit you or Saturday at 10am (this would be weather dependent if its to 'hot' it would have to be cancelled or moved)

One of the groups I was thinking of starting would specifically be for shy dogs not fear reactive as those dogs need to start with 121s just not sure around other so a gentle group walk to build confidence and calmness around other dogs on or off lead with one or more of my dogs acting as mentors. I will run this only if their is enough interested

Lovely morning mantrailing lovely work from a pack of Beagles the youngsters getting the hang of the game and the older trio doing fantastic delayed trails.
Awesome trailwork and even better off trailing behaviour from Husky x Magnus who has gone from a reactive dog when I first met him to trailing maestro and then a fantastic chilled out boy hang out watching a super busy carpark people dogs bikes and wandering ponies Beatriz you should be super proud of yourself and your boy!

Also have to say a hugh thank you to my long suffering mum who came out to be an extra misper and puppy sitter as yes Myrtle came with the big dogs to supervise the trailing and having a short little toodle on the Moor must say she was a little star following the older dogs lead and just settling into watch the world go by

As most of you know I'm in the process of becoming an International Trail Hunt Instructor. So I am working through the course with Merryn as well as videoing me teaching a couple of my clients for my assessments as well. This is exercise 10. A 20: 2 trail, that's 20 meter straight line then a 90° turn walk 2 metres then place the trail pod. As you can see Merryn and I are loving this game. Can't wait to be able to offer this great sport to you all!!!!

Wow what a fantastic Christmas mantrailing 9 dogs and 2 puppies did wonderful trails all people and one Grinch found. Lovely soup and mincepies and other nibbles consumer and a lot of laughs and thousands of steps done really couldn't ask for a better finish to 2023 mantrailing and look forward to 2024

Mad quite mad! What did we do this morning mantrailing on Dartmoor the dogs were fanbloodytastic and the handlers were pretty damn good as well and smiled their way through rain wind and fog

July 14th is DOGS ON THE LEAD DAY This isn't a campaign to stop people walking their dogs off lead (as off lead exercise is vital for a dogs physical, mental and emotional health) It is a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of putting your off lead dog on the lead if you see someone else walking their dog on lead. Not only is this basic courtesy but can prevent your dog causing distress to the other dog who could be young and still in training to understand good manners, or they could be old, injured or reactive on the lead due to fear or frustration theses are just a few of the reason why a dog could be on the lead. By simple putting your dog back on the lead you are not only being kind to other dog walkers and their precious pets but you also avoid your own dog ending up in a situation when they could end up scared or hurt. Tarka is starting to get bored. So I asked several of you to send me a photo of your dogs so I could play a cognitive skills game with Tarka "WHO"S YOU?" I have done a couple of sessions today one this morning and another this afternoon each just a couple of minutes long. He definitely doesn't have true image recognition yet more a mix of postion targeting and chance. But he's enjoying himself, I'm having fun and at the end he's mentally knackered emotionally happy and ready to go back to chilling out. So it doesn't really matter if I get a true reliable behaviour I'm giving him the mental and emotional simulation he needs. Depending on how he goes I will increase the criteria over the next couple of days either by swapping around the photos more often making positions targeting less likely or add in photos of Jack and Magnus, so he has more choices. I want him to have to think hard but not make it so hard it's frustrating rather than fun!

Current puppy group had their 1st out and about session. They were ace. Nailed the focus on their owners. To the point that I had to use copious amounts of treats and even hold Ralph's collar to keep them all with me long enough for their owners to move away so they could practice their very 1st group recall. A little about me

I am a local dog trainer with a degree in Dog training and Behaviour, I am also a qualified instructor for Mantrailing Uk, Wag it Games and Real Dog Yoga as well as having scores of other training qualifications and years of experience. I offer a number of different classes, courses and workshops as well as 121 as requested.

I have four dogs which I train to do a number of sports, including mantrailing, scentwork, obedience, dog ball and gundog work and have also trained dogs for agility and hoopers
