Sadly today I had to let my old man Olaf go. Old age caught up to him and its kinder to say goodbye than let his health deteriorate.
Cresenity Olaf was a sweet sooky boy who loved scritches and giving you kisses.
He was a Grand Champion in his show days, but now he can rest easy with his brother Raife who was waiting to see him again.
Rest in peace Olaffle, I love you and miss you XoxoxoxoX

Today we said goodbye to my oldest and very first rat I bought from a breeder, Rocket Constellation, affectionately known as Connie.
Connie was a great old girl, she won loads of awards in conformation and was always such a sweetie.
She underwent 2 surgeries from lumps, one on each side and a giant abscess on her cheek that popped and healed nicely.
She was 3 days shy of being 3 years and 1 month old.
Connie just kept going and going and was always happy. Connie was a loving Aunty to Puddings babies and she other new mothered and out lived many of her cage mates.
I am going to miss her terribly, though as with all pets, the love and friendship we have with them when they are with us, is so worth the loss when they leave us.

I am heart broken to share that my beautiful old rat, Lightning, passed away this morning.
Lightning and his brother Jobe were my first two ratties ever. They taught me so much and whilst I lost Jobe at 4 months old, I am so glad we had Lightning to the ripe old age of 2yrs 8mths.
He was such a sweet rat, and got sweeter with age. While he wasn't the biggest fan of hugs, he loved being able to sit next to you and be scritched, which he returned with loads of licks and grooming of your hand.
I am hoping where ever rats go, he has met back up with Jobe and is having fun, arthritis free and eating all the yogies he wants.
Goodbye my Lightning Pie, I love you so much and will miss you each and every day.

Well I haven't had mice as pets for long, but one of my petshop girls is pregnant - what are the odds??? LOL
Anyhow, these will be my first mouse babies ever - Anyone want to guess what colour's I might get?
She is black with a sort of silvered underside with a wonky splodge of white.
She was in a tub with numerous other mice, colours ranging from black, white, fawn, brindle, chocolate and they were marked or selfs - so it will be a surprise lol.

Wan to join in the fun with some other rat and mouse lovers at the next show? It's on Saturday the 4th of August at our usual gathering place, the Uniting Church Hall on the corner of Victoria Road and Trumper Street, Ermington.

Show entries are $1.50 for members with a cap of $20 and $2.50 for non-members with a cap of thirty. If you want to swing by and just take a look see, entry is free! Some exhibitors will have ratty and mousey things for sale, even some rodents may be available on the day :)

Over 6 week, 6 teams took part in the $2000 renovation challenge and there’ve been some incredible results, from lounge room to the courtyard decks, and even a kitchen make over, all done for under $2000. You have voted and tonight we find out who wins the $10,000.

The Husking Station Kicks Butt at the Royal Easter Show 2012!
ROC Constellation (Connie) took First Place in Confirmation, followed by THS Mousse who took Second place in Confirmation!
Pudding (Mummy Rat of the THS Crew) came Third in PEW/BEW!
ICED Pretzel, one of my two double rex girls, took out Fourth Place in Senior Pet Rats AND Third in Hooded!
THS Artemecian (Arty) came First in Ba****ck!
THS Frosty, one of my two rex boys came Third in Champagne however his standard coat brother, THS Jon Snow (Snowy) came First in Champagne!
I am absolutly stoked with these results, then it got better!
THS Jon Snow received Best Non-Ticked Rat! Amazing, go Snowy!
THEN THS Jon Snow was crowned GRAND CHAMPION RAT!!!
At this stage I was in shock! I still can barely believe that my little Snowy won!
Snowy had his photo taken by the Herald newspaper and then we were interviewed along with Katie (Zen Mousery) and her gorgeous agouti Grand Champion Mouse, by Dr Harry for Channel Seven!
It is amazing that my little Snowy did so well!

AusRFS NSW Christmas get-together at the Australian Reptile Park (near Gosford)

Time: 11.00am but you're welcome to arrive earlier and tour the park at your leisure.

Entry prices:

ADULTS $19.00 (normally $24.50)

CHILDREN (3-15yrs) $10.00 (normally $12.50)

Concession $12.00 (normally $17.00)

You can pay your entry fees when you arrive.

Contact Sharon (Mousketeers) if you are interested in coming so that she can give the list of attendees to the Australian Reptile Park for entry.

When you arrive, let them know you're with the Aust Rodent Fanciers Society (NSW) so you can get discount admission and they will tell you where the undercover area is.

Remember: BYO - meat, drinks, and a plate to share - salad, desert, nibblies.
