Save The Animals Rescue Team, II - START II

A huge thank you to all of the Emergency Responders who came to the rescue last night. 🙏 Thank you to the volunteers who showed up and stayed til the very end, especially our Tuesday night crew member, Raunaq, who went above and beyond for the animals. He made it through the waters on foot and managed to get inside the building to round up all the dogs to higher ground. 🙏 Gathering up a group of scared dogs is not without its challenges but all animals are safe and accounted for today. Thanks to the local Leonia animal rescue groups who came ready to help and especially to the volunteers who are currently providing temporary foster homes. ZANDER, Male, Beagle/Hound Mix, 9 Months Old, Brindle/White colors.

Zander arrived with his brother Zed. This hound mix (maybe beagle and others) is a bundle of energy. He’s ready to run, play, and wrestle! (Posting his brother Zed’s video up this week in case you’re looking to adopt an adorable pair. 🙏🏽 Stay tuned! 🫶🏼)

Approximately 9 months old and about 30 pounds as of July 2024, Zander has an unusual brindle coat with white socks and other white markings. He starts his leash walks with lots of energy but calms down about halfway through. He’ll learn quickly with consistent training.

If you’re looking for an active buddy to walk, run, or hike with, Zander’s your guy! This little powerhouse needs positive training to direct his puppy energies. He’s very friendly and loves attention from humans.

Zander has learned not to be so mouthy. He’d do best with adults ready to offer him regular training and teenagers who can work with him. (He may have a little too much energy for younger kids.) He’s going to make a great family companion once he becomes secure in a forever home and learns the ropes! A fenced-in yard would be great.

Zander is up to date on vaccines and already neutered.

It's Sunny Everyday with Sunshine 🌞
Sunshine lost his eye when he was a baby outside in Paterson. His other eye is limited, but he does have some vision we think.
Has this rough start affected his demeanor? NO WAY! This little guy lives life sunny side up and gets around well! 🌞
Sunshine is super sweet, calm, and loves to be petted. He wants and gives attention.
Sunshine also loves hanging out with the other kitties at PetSmart Paramus and giving them attention. He needs a home with another compatible cat or adopted with another cat.
Sunshine is 1.5 years old, UTD with shots and neutered.

A great big THANK YOU to Johnny O’Connor, President of the PAWS CLUB in Tenafly High School, who ran a pet food/supply drive to benefit START II. Johnny met with Jodi, our shelter manager, and got to cuddle some kittens when dropping off the donated items. We all appreciate your support so much, and thank you for taking the initiative to run a drive for our animal shelter !! The pets most especially thank you for caring so much !!!

National Volunteer Week is coming to a close. Many people, even the ones you would never expect, may not recognize the fact that it is the VOLUNTEERS who keep organizations like this one running. Without Volunteers there is no shelter… there are No rescue groups , etc. Volunteers give their personal time to help. After their jobs is done for the day and they are exhausted,
they show up. After they have retired from a long career and long awaited freedom from so many responsibilities. They are there. While they are sick. They still give their time. They interrupt their family time on weekends. They Get dirty when they have to. They break their backs setting up and taking down fund raisers. They keep finding ways to do more…. to promote, to raise more funds, to establish relationships to help get things done…to find more people to help. They are the heart and the spine…. THEY are the glue. They don’t stop until they reach the end goal. They come from different backgrounds, all ages, and don’t always share the same opinions. Each one brings VALUE. What they DO share and what keeps them going even when they feel they may be doing thankless work - is their LOVE for animals. They ignore their differences, their physical pain, their busy schedules ….because they all share one thing in common - they WANT TO HELP THE ANIMALS. It’s pretty simple.
From all the cats and dogs that cannot speak for themselves - THANK YOU. THANK YOU, THANK YOU. For if not for volunteers where would they be ?? Thank your friends and family who are volunteers for any organization. They do not do it for thanks, but they are certainly worthy of gratitude.

A special thank you to Gwyneth and Johnny O’Connor of Tenafly High School’s PAW CLUB. The Senior twins are passionate about helping pets. They are currently running a pet food drive for the cats and dogs of START II. Johnny, the President of the PAW CLUB, and Gwyneth not only cleaned their closets and donated to our clothing and textiles drive, but made a very generous donation from their own hard earned money. These busy seniors not only do lots of charitable work but have part time jobs too !! We have no doubt they have very bright, successful futures ahead !! Thank you for being a great example of how your generation can help homeless pets !!!

He's a happy camper.
Fully grown at 2 years old but still looks and acts like a youngster and has plenty of s***k & enthusiasm to entertain.
He'd probably love to have another pal to clown around with.

Freddy is smaller at 44 pounds, you won't have to worry about him getting any larger. What you see is what you get.

He's an extremely handsome mixed breed just like all the rest, looking for a forever home and family to call his own.

Freddy walks nicely on a leash too. Has beautiful markings and a healthy & shiny coat.

Real cutie here!

We named her Cosmo,
she was an owner surrender with no name.
At 1 year old she had no name.

She lived with many dogs, plus a litter of pups we took in a few months ago.

She's small & delightful.
A Lab mix who is calm, sweet & gentle.

Look at her adorable floppy ears. All she wanted was hugs and love. She got that immediately, we couldn't resist !!

Cosmo weights 36 pounds, she's the perfect size to take on family trips & adventures!
She takes treats super gently.

Cosmo seemed to get the hang of toys during pictures. She wasn't sure what they were originally.
Kinda sad, did she never have toys as a youngster?

Cosmo lived with children and would do well with them because of her polite manners.
She walks beautifully on a leash as well.

She looks black but has brown tones and a stripe down her back.

Just super sweet and genuine. She's a complete doll!

LOOKING FOR HELP FROM A ROOFER !!!

During one of the recent high wind storms, our Englewood, NJ animal shelter building took a hit to the roof. We are in need of a professional roofer to make some repairs. GEMI & REMI

Thought we got adopted ?? Nope…. Still here, almost TWO YEARS later !!! Gemini and Remi are still in the shelter and they have become quite bonded. As we have said before we know it’s a “tall order “ to fill but we are not giving up hope. We just know their perfect parent(s) is out there with just the right circumstances ! You probably know their story by now - we rescued them along w their 3 siblings from death row. They arrived at just 3 months old. They are Great Pyrenees mixes. Full description on our adopt a pet page. Gemini has been getting more antsy and we are desperate to get them out of the shelter !!! Remi has come such a long way. He is not as shy as he was and he is his sister’s shadow. We would really like to keep them together at this point. They are big. They need a fenced in yard to run in. They will need continuous training to maximize their potential. They are doing great learning and have been working one on one w a trainer. These beautiful dogs will make a great addition to the right family. We are intent to find their fit !!! They are about 2 years old. Spayed. Neutered. In good health.
