The United States Postal Service has released its newest collection of Forever Stamps, which honor the dogs that have served in the military. The 20-stamp booklet will highlight four breeds of "brave and loyal military working dogs" that have aided American troops on the battlefield throughout history.

Each four-stamp block in the book will feature one of the following breeds; German shepherd, Labrador retriever, Belgian Malinois, and Dutch shepherd. The background of each stamp will contain a white star on a red or blue background, while a gold star will sit in the middle of the block.

The stamps were designed by Greg Breeding and created by DKNG Studios.

You can purchase the new stamps online, at your local post officer, or at any other retailer that sells stamps. Each booklet of 20 stamps costs $11. Forever Stamps will always be equal in value to the current cost of a first-class stamp, regardless of how much the stamp cost when you purchased it.

Grey's Anatomy K9 Edition! **No real dogs used in this training**

The Officers of the LAPD Metropolitan Division K9 annually receive valuable K9 Trauma Care training focused on treating and stabilizing injured K9s in the field, prior to transporting to an emergency veterinarian facility. Officers learned on a special K9 medical trainer mannequin that barks, breathes, growls. The dog responses are realistic to replicate the look, feel, and function of actual medical procedures.

This training also includes rendering aid to humans as well where the officers worked on human cadavers.

This vital training ensures the ability to render aid to both 2 legged and 4 legged officers in the field.

We are proud to support the LAPD Metropolitan K9 Platoon and the extensive training that each K9 team receives. It is no joke when they say K9 and Air Support is a match made in heaven and a bad guy's worst nightmare.

We wanted to share with you a search conducted by the LAPD Metropolitan K9 Platoon along with LAPD Foothill Community Police Station and LAPD Air Support. has a saying "Where They Go We Go" and this shows the amazing skills and talents of every officer involved in this search that night. We could not be more proud to support such an amazing department and platoon.

On February 16th, the recently certified team of Ofcr Dan Cota and K9 Achal responded to a termination of a vehicle pursuit at Hansen Dam.
The suspect rolled the stolen vehicle on Wentworth Street, crawled out, and jumped a nearby fence. Foothill Officers pursued the suspect on foot. The suspect was able to elude the officers by fleeing through water, mud and thick foliage. Air 16 utilized the Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) to track the suspect’s movements. The suspect made his way into thick bushes along the water’s edge over 1 mile from where he had crashed the stolen vehicle.

Ofcr Cota and K9 Achal led a K9 team along with some enthusiastic Foothill patrol officers into the Tujunga Wash. The team maneuvered it’s way through downed trees and running water. The week long rains had made the wash extremely difficult to navigate.

The team reached the area where Air 16 had the “heat source”. The bushes were so thick that the team could not see more than five feet ahead to where the suspect was hiding. In addition, the suspect was along the water’s edge which had become a rapidly moving river due to the rains.

Cota attached a long line to K9 Achal’s harness and safely worked Achal into the scent where Achal pinpointed the suspect’s location. The suspect was partially submerged in the water under the thick foliage.

Once located by K9 Achal, the suspect complied with officers and was arrested. The handcuffed suspect was then led on foot all the way back out of the wash to awaiting LAFD who assisted in getting him up the slope.

K9 Achal was treated by VCA Veterinarians for an adverse reaction to something he was exposed to in the wash, along with his sore paws which were soaked and treated.

We want to share with everyone a special message from Sergeant Goosby our Chief Trainer:

With a very heavy heart I want to let you all know that K9 King lost his battle with cancer today. K9 King, Serial No. 289, EOW 01/18/2019 @ 1512 hours.

King was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago. With the vet's approval, we made the decision to work King until he threw in the towel. King went on for a follow up visit last week, where we learned that the mass had grown significantly and the cancer had spread. King did not show any change in behavior until this past Monday and Tuesday when he didn't eat all of his food. Yesterday, Jenkins (handler) and I discussed at length, different options for King. King worked last night during joint K9/SWAT training and looked good. Overnight, he took an extreme turn for the worse and we knew what had to be done. King was a happy dog up until the end, and went out the way he deserved to - catching bad guys. I'm going to miss that knucklehead.

LAPD K9 LOCATES ARMED SUSPECTS INVOLVED IN CELEBRITY BURGLAR RING

On 09/23/2018 at approximately 2305 Hrs, Metropolitan Division Officers observed a possible “burglary in progress” in the 5700 block of Donna Ave in the West San Fernando Valley. This region of the valley is home to many celebrities, some of whose residences had been burglarized while they were away.
Upon seeing the officers, the suspects fled on foot. One suspect entered a vehicle which sped away. The two additional suspects jumped a nearby fence. Officers heard a single gunshot come from the yard where the suspects had fled. The officers set up a perimeter and requested Metropolitan Division K9 to conduct a search for the armed suspects.
K9 Officer Ramirez and Canine Tyson quickly located one of the suspects in a nearby shed. It was later determined that this suspect had been in possession of a handgun while initially hiding in the trunk of a vehicle.
K9 Officer Jenkins and Canine King searched the adjacent yards for the additional suspect. King located the suspect, who then tried to flee over a fence. King grabbed a bite hold of the suspect.
After taking the suspect into custody, search team members removed a satchel that was strapped to the suspect’s chest area. Officers discovered a loaded handgun inside of the satchel.
The two additional suspects who fled the scene were later captured by detectives. All four suspects were later connected to several celebrity burglaries in the West Valley and West Los Angeles areas.
