The Values of our NEST
Farming Goals and Objectives

Through a family operated direct marketing farm we will craft a lifestyle that reflects these values and establishes a home worth working for. NATURAL: To be healthier, hardier, and happier –
a. physically through eating naturally, physical exercise, less stress, reducing processed foods, using more natural health remedies, cleaner water, and d

ramatically reduced manufactured chemical usage in our land - food - and daily life. emotionally through less stress and more fun together - Integration of work and play together. spiritually – through a practiced faith in Jesus Christ that is at the center of our everyday lives. This is expressed in our ministry of hospitality and our connection to night and day prayer. We want to extend these values to our animals as well. We will have healthier, hardier, and happier animals by adapting our farming operations to natural animal patterns.

2. EYE APPEALING: To create, enjoy, and be inspired by beautiful things -
a. in how the animals look, smell, and act. In how our land looks and smells. In how our buildings reflect care and quality. In how we keep things clean and well cared for. In how we showcase nature rather than manipulate. In making a place for art, craft, song, and creativity.

3. SUSTAINABILITY & SELF-SUFFICIENCY: To build family stability through sustainability and self-sufficiency by:
a. reducing our dependence on globalization (ie Wal-Mart), factory farming, and consumerism. increasing our skill sets and our creativity
c. increasing our perseverance, our faith, and our connection with natural revelation. Increasing our awareness of food production, natural health care, first aid, and general safety. having a working plan in the event modern technology or politics fail us. providing profitable employment for our children and for family. honoring the land and stewarding resources well - not only sustaining our family but the resources God has given us.

4. TOGETHER WITH FAMILY & COMMUNITY: To build cohesion and hospitality -
a. by sharing: This is not an exercise in independence or isolation. We want to extend ourselves into the lives of others by sharing resources, information and work. by having people visit and stay with us on the farm: The practice of Hospitality not only provides opportunity for ministry to one another but is in itself a witness of the kingdom of God. by establishing the home as the center of our lives: We will work primarily out of our home. Children, even those leaving the home, will be supported by the ties of a home base for rest and strengthening. by integrating work, recreation, rest, and play: The family will all be working together at a moderate pace of life to build meaningful relationships, have integrated time together in work and play, learning to cooperate, and every member of the family is essential for the success of the farm.

Pasture-raised pork

Our pigs are a cross of Old Gloucester Spot, Red Wattle., Hampshire. Each are heritage breeds. We pasture out pigs on 85 acres that include both pasture and woodlands. We avoid chemical fertilizers, herbicides, antibiotics and insect control. The primary diet is pasture grasses, farm grown nuts, milk from our cow, and supplemented crack corn. Check out the pictures of the farm on our page.

How to order
1. Decide if you want a ½ or whole pig, (whole pigs usually yield 120 to 160 pounds of meat).
2. You pay for the pig per pound of hanging weight.
3. You pay the processing plant separately because each order is unique. We use www.caboolKountrymeats.com. This is a USDA processing plant. You can pay additional if you want the meat USDA labeled. You will determine how you want it cut. Standard Processing .42 pound, .62 for USDA inspected. If you want some cuts cured and smoked (like bacon or ham) there is an additional fee per pound (.40 curing, .40 smoking) They also charge you a per pig kill fee. We will send you a cut sheet before you talk to butcher.
4. You decide if you are going to pick it up in Cabool MO. or have us deliver it ($40.00 additional). We will be hosting a meal on the farm on pick up day. We anticipate a November 12 pick up date.

Ethel's first litter. The fifth litter on the farm. She is a good mom and goes down slowly so we are going to keep her as a breeding sow. She and the cuteness are keepers. We have decided that we will winter two bred sows for piglets in the spring. Those will be sold as feeders or fed out for the freezer.
