IMPORTANT NOTICE.

(Please also refer to the last video update).

Saoirse has sadly been and is still unwell (A few know the details of what has been going on for months now and the mental and physical health issues she has been battling), and has been unable to complete the orders that were placed last year.

Many of them have been started but due to these issue they still have not been finished.

Saoirse has tried for months to get help and support to finish the mats but after posting in multiple places and even asking the local fabric stores no one came forward to offer assistance.

After the years of quality work and service she worked so hard to achieve, the fact that she has let everyone down is mortifying and weighing heavily on her.

We will be messaging those who are still waiting for mats and gear personally in the next few days to give the options of having the fabrics and supplies that were already purchased for those orders sent to the customers so they can have them completed by another gear maker, or waiting until she is able to complete them herself. But will note that she does not know what the time frame will be on that.

If you have not received an email by the end of next week please email Kobash Mats at [email protected] to provide your postal address so we can send the supplies for your mats to you.

Kobash Mats were always a nonprofit small business with Saoirse not taking any personal profit from anything made from the mats as everything went back into the business to keep it going so she could keep supplying disabled handlers the best mats she could make for their assistance dogs.

Thank you for all your support of Saoirse over the last 5 years and for understanding.

Posted on Saoirse's behalf by her support workers.

Physio today. Thanks to being able to get support workers I’m able to get to appointments.

I just wanted to let everyone know while I can, that I’m not coping well. Too much over too long a time and I’m not handling things well. I post and give some idea of what’s going on so people know the progress of mats but it’s only just the surface stuff. And I post so no one thinks I’m slacking off or just mucking around. My shoulder is so bad.

I need to get a shoulder support so I can get back in to do some work. I do have a loaner machine so I can finish what I’m still behind on so that is good.
I don’t just have myself and my mental and physical health I’m struggling with, but also my sons.

I wish I could explain how much of everything but I’m really battling to find the right words. I haven’t stopped working to catch up. And I hate so much the people I’ve kept waiting. It hangs over me all the time and I’m constantly anxious about it.

The medication I’ve been trialing to help with the adhd has only caused other health issues and I was really hoping that something would help. I don’t like putting up depressing posts. But I’m panicked that people will think I’m just slacking off when I’m not. I haven’t been able to keep up with my Autistic advocacy/education page Planet Autistic either and I’m beyond grateful I have another admin on there to help keep things going. Especially this month.

We send our love out to everyone battling and trying to get through each day. Love from Kobash Mats.

Got the verdict on my shoulder. Capsulitis/rotator cuff tear on top of the bursitis. So yay. This is why the increasing immobility and pain in my shoulder. I can’t get steroid injections so if the physio doesn’t work it’s up to surgery. But I can’t do that either so let’s hope the physio works. So a busted machine and a busted shoulder. What a day. Another reason I’m so slow. Trying to work with machines that keep malfunctioning 😫😫 I really need a new machine. What I’d love would be an industrial that did straight stitch and could work through anything including multiple layers of webbing whether biothane or grip. Anyone have just lying around they don’t use anymore and would like to donate to Kobash Mats? 😬😬 EEEEEEEE. Honestly though I don’t know how I’m going to get this one fixed or when and it’s the only domestic I have. The industrial I have here that was donated is a zigzag which is awesome for getting the mats together but I can’t do anything else with it.

Doctors appt tomorrow. Will hopefully find out what is going on with my shoulder aside from the bursitis as I pretty much can’t use my arm for anything I need to do. And as I’ve been using my right arm for everything I’ve now done something to that. Sigh. Meanwhile I’m hoping that the rain will ease off so we don’t flood as without a car we aren’t going anywhere. I hope everyone that is in the flood effected areas are safe and their animals too ❤️ Luisneach spam for tax. My goodness she is so big now.

I made a thing. Loosh has grown so fast that she outgrew the collar I’d made her. She’s been wearing kobash’s collar while I was trying to get the time to make her new one. I did something different this time and added pink velvet to it. Looshy isn’t really a dog for pink but it shows the green off really nicely and green certainly is her colour. The lovely burnt orange collar is one I made a few weeks ago but hadn’t posted a photo for yet. This is is also lined with velvet. If you love Kobash Mats please keep liking our posts and commenting. My shoulder is so bad at the moment. Right in the middle of a fantastic flare up. And while I should be resting it and taking anti inflammatories, I can’t. Since my shoulder started causing me issues a few years ago I discovered that it’s impossible to actually rest your shoulder. Even if you turn your hand or flex your fingers you will still feel it in your shoulder. And anti inflammatories makes sick. So trying to ride it out while it’s so puffy you can barely see my collar bone now. I do have some help coming on Friday so I’ll at least get some stuff done. When I do have the brain to work my body won’t let me or visa versa. Finally found out what’s going on with my hip too. I some how cleverly chronically tore the ligament or tendon behind my leg at the hip. Doctor asked me if it’s the one I dislocate but I said no so we both have no idea how this happened now. Bodies are fun. But I’m still going because apparently I’m a ma*****st. I’m so close though to being done with these mats. Thought I had 5 mats left then realised it was 6. But I am still so close. I’m hankering to get to the ideas I have too and also make Looshy her own mat.

Update to let everyone know the status here at Kobash Mats.

Many have been wanting to know when I will be reopening orders again.

I am much closer now. Because of the chronic health stuff and other things I have been struggling with, my amazing support coordinator got me a new support worker to help me with getting better organised and help me out a bit in my work room.

Since she started I have gotten so much more done than I have in ages. I was struggling much more than I have been letting on only because so many others are also struggling and I didn't want to add to issues they also had. But it's gotten to a point where I am just not coping.

I am now only 5 mats away (not including gear) from being completely caught up!

I haven't been able to do much over the last week or so as I've had another crash.
I have quite the skill at hiding pain and not letting on how bad I'm doing. Part of it beingAutistic I don't feel pain the same way as neurotypicals. I can be dealing with extreme pain before I will do anything about it. And that's how I ended up with gangrene at 13. By the time I say anything about what pain I'm in it's gotten so severe I end up in hospital.
The other part is there is only so many times you can ask for help and get ignored or brushed over or told it's not that bad before you just stop saying anything,
I am trying to learn to say when something is hurting but I don't think I'll ever be able to get to that.

At the moment the issues with my shoulder have progressed to the point I have lost a lot of rotation in it and the inflammation have gotten so bad it's effecting other areas.
Yesterday I managed to not only aggravate it, but I also hurt my left hand and part of it is swollen. My right wrist is doing something weird, my knees keep moving around and hopefully in a few days I'll know what's going on with my hip.

I think I need a new body. My mental health isn't the best at the moment either and I'm struggling with a few things there. One of which is the ADHD which I have mentioned before. I might not ever be able to be medicated for it considering the issues I have with medication which is why the new support worker.

On the bright side I will have new glasses soon so I wont go blind 20 mins into trying to sew.

I work really hard to make Kobash Mats a trusted and top quality brand. I don't often promote myself which is probably a down side to things, but I try to let the quality of my stuff speak for itself. I have a few custom gear and well known brands that are the best in workmanship that I admire and I try to model myself after that. Also with the people who I make the majority of the mats and gear for.
My fellow people in the disability community.

I am still looking for 1-2 others to possibly join Kobash Mats or help make the gear.

But for now it's just me. I am as always doing the best I can and I always will do the best I can with the stuff I make.

All of us here (as in my kid, the four legged furry members and I) are thinking of everyone in Kobash Mats land and sending our love.

Keep your eyes out for the next update on when the orders are back open!

Thank you

07/02/2021

On occasion I have been asked to write a letter for a customer who has gotten a mat or gear for their assistance dog so they would able to claim their mat through NDIS or other funding.
I have always been happy to this to make it easier for handler to be able to get a work mat for their dog as it gets expensive to buy everything you need for an assistance dog.

I was thinking of posting the letter on here and the website, but reconsidered it as I didn't want anyone trying to claim for a mat or product that wasn't from Kobash Mats.

As those who have a mat know, Kobash Mats are one of a kind and handmade by me and quite distinctive so this letter can't be used for someone trying to claim anything that is not a Kobash Mats product.

But for those who have a mat or are thinking of ordering one (I am hoping to reopen orders again very soon) I can add a copy of this letter to their invoice.

I am slowly catching up. It's been much better now that I have someone helping me to be better organised. I've been able to do more in the last couple of weeks than I have in ages because of my executive dysfunctioning issues making everything harder on top of the health issues.

My son is also doing much better after the emergency room scare the other week thank god.

I hope everyone has had a good and safe weekend.

Love from Kobash Mats.

Plod plod plodding along. I’ve been fighting so hard to get better organised. I also have adhd and executive dysfunctioning is just kicking my butt. I have been trialing meds which are only making me sick snd not helping at all. There is a chance my adhd might never be able to be medicated because I just don’t react well to medication. Thanks to my support coordinator Jess I finally have a nice lady to come once a week to help me get better organised. She can even help me with the more heavy duty stuff of mat making (ironing etc). Today we went to the cheap shop and I got a huge white board to write everything down, all the steps for what I need to do so I can keep track of it all and know where I’m up to, so when I’m having really bad days (which are often) I don’t have to try to sort out in my mind what I need to do as it’s all there in front of me. I prepped some mats as well which was a challenge today as the bursitis in my left shoulder is being annoying and I’ve also managed to pull the muscle in the upper right arm on top. But I’m still getting there. The fabric in these pics is linen which I haven’t done for a mat before. It smells so nice too and feels amazing. I’m interested in seeing how it turns out. Will definitely need to do something different for the edging other than cotton I think. I am still on the hunt for the right person to join Kobash Mats. It’s not an easy job to find someone who understands how important it is that these mats are made well. The gear too. And it needs to be someone local. I hope everyone has great weekend. Planted herself behind me while I was at the cutting table. Yeah sure it made it hard to move in any direction, but she was lying still for five mins so no way was I going to disturb her 😂 On other news my son is doing better today. He’s actually perky and starting to act like himself. To see how much pain he was in for those days was just breaking my heart. Sure he’s back to talking my ear off but I’d much prefer that to seeing him so I’ll. He said his chest still feels crunchy and he’s taking it easy, but still much better than he was. Otherwise it’s been a quiet day. I know some celebrate Australia Day but we don’t and we won’t, which will be controversial to a lot, but that’s our stance. But we hope everyone had a safe public holiday.

25/01/2021

Plodding long. It’s been an eventful week. Not just my own health I struggle with but my kid also suffers from the same chronic conditions I do. While trialing medication for one of his conditions he started not doing well on it and ended up in the emergency room on Saturday with chest pains. Of course they couldn’t do much other than an ecg and a chest X-ray and sent him home. Today is the first day in a week I’ve seen him not look like he was having so much pain. And after 4 days of waiting for the paed to call me back she finally rang. I’m still upset that it took that long to call me back after what I said was going on with him. So trying to get stuff with the both of us having issues has been challenging to say the least. But I’m still trying and plodding along. I have a worker that’s coming to help me get better organised as well which is awesome. Nice young lady. And I’m still working on finding the right person to come into Kobash Mats too. Has to be the right person who understands what these mats are for and how important they are to handlers and their dogs. Hope everyone is having a safe week. And we send our love out to everyone too.

12/01/2021

Hi everyone.

I want to firstly apologise for not being as available via messenger as I usually am. I've been having soem trouble with the message centre as per usual and the buisness pages app isn't any better.

I have not been doing well lately.
I've been struggling alot with mental health and physical health issues. The medication I was trialing has been making me really sick and effecting my EDS, POTS and Fibro.
I've been fighting these things so hard have had a downward spiral and insomnia isn't helping it all either.

It has been nothing but an uphill battle for months. I have been having so much more pain and also seeing a cardiologist to find out whats going on with the POTS.

Today I was pushed into a massive melt down at the medical centre when they had a fire drill out of the blue. Without Kobash, getting out has been even harder, so I didn't cope with the unexpeted fire drill.

It's taken me a couple of weeks just to post this because of over editing and deleting and what to put down and did I overshare or not share enough.

Through all this I have been getting into the work room and doing as much as I can at a time, and I feel so guilty at keeping everyone waiting to the point it's giving me panic attacks.

because of this, I have been pushed into to making a decision about Kobash Mats that I've been thinking about for a while.

I'm not closing down. so don't worry about that. I love making these mats for assistance dogs and their handlers and the occasional pet too. Doing this makes me feel useful.

Without Kobash Mats I don't know what I'd do. It's gives me a purpose.
It gives me a creative outlet. And I do love the challenge.

But I am struggling.

So I made the decision to bring someone into the Kobash Mats family.
I haven't picked anyone yet. I need to make sure that whoever it is, works to the same standard that I always push myself to.

And they also need to be aware that this isn't something that will earn a lot of money either. Considering how much it is for material and stuff to make the mats and the gear, I don't charge much profit on top as what I make goes to the assistance dog community, most of who live with a very little income.

But it is still my dream to see what else I can make and it wold be great to have someone else to help with the designs that I have planned and their implementation.

To those who have sent me messages to the Kobash Mats page, I can see them there but can't havne't been able to access them other than one person. The whole thing is weird. and driving me crazy.

Maybe someone can give me an idea of whats going wrong or if they're having any of the same issues? I even deleted the app and reinstalled it and it's still doing it.

There is the Kobash Mats groups if those who have sent me a message would like to try there instead?

As I have posted before, if things go according to plan I might have access to another space and machines to work on some time soon. I really hope that works out. But at the moment it's still a wait and see thing.

I am also trying to save up for a new overlocker as mine has broken down in a very loud and klunky way and it's put a pause on the production of the Krunchy Keeper.

I have been really happy with how the belts and Madra Grip leads have been working out.

Luiseach though has been progressing well. I had a first session with a delta trainer a couple of weeks ago andcame away from it very optimistic about her progress. But she is still a way from being able to come out with me and going out without that assistance is so much harder than I thought it would be.

I hope everyone has had a good holidays and safe new year. It seems as though the new year has brough it's own craziness in with it. I hope everyone is coping ok.

I'm really grateful to everyone for your patience. Thank you so much.

So this took waaaay longer than I normally would to make. Aside from the usual chronic pain and mental health stuff, I sewed the bag attachments too far to the back. So I had to unpick a bunch and fix it. Which might not seem that hard but fine detail stuff like that kills me eyes and my hands so it took me a few days just to do that. I also get help with the hole punch to put the rivets in the lead rope as I can’t use the hole punch at all with my hands. I’m waiting to afford one of those bench top lever type ones which might enable me to do it on my own without having to wait for someone to help me, but they’re very pricey. But it is done! And it came out really well. The rainbow buckle and D-Rings to clip your lead or poo bag holder or keys and the little D-Rings to hold a treat pouch or anything else. It really is an all purpose belt. Solids and durable. And machine washable! Just put it in a garment bag and in the wash. This belt and special Madra grip lead is going with that rainbow shimmery mat and getting posted today.

I did a post for this in the notes section but it appears facebook has gotten rid on that section on pages, so I have to make them all over again.

How to order a Kobash Mat step by step.

1. You can email me at [email protected] but the easier option is to message me via the link in the message box at the bottom of the cover pic on this page.

2. Then we work on what you would like for your mat.
A) Size. 😎 What theme/pattern you would like.

C) What colour edging to go with it.

D). How much padding, standard or double padding. Or the new superthin.

E) If you would like a strap pouch.

3. Once you've decided all of the above I can make you up a quote based on this information. You can then decide if you would like to go ahead.

There is no pressure to do this.

4. I then make an invoice for you via PayPal and you can pay through that or I can make you a PDF invoice and you can pay through direct debit.

I do offer lay-buy plans which I do through direct deposit or bank transfer only.

I let you know how your mat is doing each step of the way. Please allow some time for me to make your mat. Times may vary due to sourcing materials, mental or chronic health issues (I am Autistic/ADHD, I have OCD, Generalised anxiety, and suffer from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome among other chronic health issues which can interfere with sewing) or machine malfunctions, and how many I have in the line to make.

These mats and gear are handmade by me and only me.

I am always available to chat to via messages (being Autistic I don't do phone conversations and prefer text, email, or messenger).

I do ask though that if you have ordered a mat through me that you periodically check to see if I have messaged you. I could have a question about your mat or need clarification on something, or I could have a tracking number for you for postage.

Postage times within Australia are 3-5 days, but sometimes its longer depending on Auspost. I also use Fastway Couriers (now known as Aramax). Plus it can be frustrating when they don't always scan the package at every check point which they should do, so it makes look like the package isn't moving when it is.

The first mat I posted overseas took about 2 weeks but I have no Idea if that is a normal time frame or not.

Here are some links to places where I get fabric from. Also if you have some fabric you think might be good for a mat you can send that too.
The best fabric for the mats is 100% cotton. Linen also works but it's insanely expensive and heavier than cotton.

http://www.fifisfabricology.com.au
http://www.findafabric.com.au
http://www.makeithobbyncraft.com.au
https://www.fabricfrenzy.com.au/
https://www.ozmaterialgirls.com.au
https://www.spoonflower.com (USA site)
I'll post more places as I find them.

Remember that these mats are hand made by me (even with chronic health issues) on my machine at home. They aren't run off at a factory, so each one takes time to make as I do my best to provide the best mat possible to each person who orders one from me.
I do this with the utmost care possible.
Thank you.

It's been a massive and massively stressful year.
Because of covid and on going health and mental health issues I've fallen even more behind than I usually am.

For those who make gear like this that is often the case. We have super small businesses and do this for the love of being creative then making money and we to try to give something back to the disability and assistance dog community who is always so supportive of each other and of us.

It's also my way of trying to be useful.

Last year I finally realised the dream of also making gear as well as the mats. That has something I've wanted to do since my kid was really small but I was never allowed to and actively discourages from it.

But the more I made and the more creative I was allowed to be, I started having some dreams seep through from the back of mind where I usually keep them. I don't often dream big because financially and physically I am limited in what I can do.
But I've always wanted to make gear as good as EzyDog.

I love EzyDog gear. Before I made my own stuff that's what I always bought. I love how durable and long lasting it is and easy to care for and I wanted to make the Kobash Mats gear live up to that standard as well.

I work really hard on the mats to make sure they last as long as possible for the jobs they have, and the gear I also try to make the best I can.

IF things go well, I MIGHT possibly be looking at being able to use a space with new machines to make the gear better on. But will have to wait and see how things go. But it would be so amazing if that became a reality.

Next year I am hoping to have some help, or get some help to make the gear, some one I can trust to try to meet the same standards I always try to meet.

I'm also hoping to get more help in being better organised as ADHD has been severely kicking my butt in the executive dysfunctioning department this year as well. And getting my shoulder looked after by a physio and laser therapy too.

This week I was also able to finally get my eyes checked by an optometrist as any time I've been trying to work it feels like someone is trying to squeeze my eyeballs after only being at it for a while. Got myself a new prescription and hopefully new glasses and new Irlens soon as well.

This year has been so hard for everyone. Today I also found out a friend passed away unexpectedly. She is one of the people who made it possible for me to get Luisneach. It was a shock as I wasn't aware she was ill. I feel terrible for her family. I send my condolences to her family and hope she rests in peace.

I do hope everyone is safe during this holiday period and being careful out there.
I also hope that the new year will be kinder.

All of us here at Kobash Mats Headquarters send our love to everyone. Kobash, Jonah, Luisneach, the weird and crazy cats, and my boy and I 💚💜💙💚

I make custom mats for Assistance/Service Dogs, Pets, and reptiles. Unique and one of a kind.

I only make one of each mat!.

Great as work mats for Assistance/Service dogs, as placement mats for dog training, for Outdoor cafes, crates, cat enclosures, cat carriers, pet beds, reptile snuggle mats, shopping trolleys, the list goes on.

I also make custom dog gear made to measure.
