Here are some definitions of abuse!

Blaming.
Having unrealistic expectations of you.
Isolating you.
Touching any part of you without your permission or consent.
Pushing or pulling you, or forcibly grabbing.
Grabbing your face to make you look at them.
Yelling or screaming at you.
Threatening to harm you.
Using intimidation.

Here's how some people train dogs.

Blame the dog for their behaviour.
Expect the dog to know what they want.
Disallowing the dog to meet other suitable dogs.
Touching the dog over and over again without asking the dog if its ok.
Pulling on a collar or lead, rolling dogs over, scruffing.
Grabbing the dogs face to stare in their eyes.
Shouting at the dog.
Threatening to harm the dog to stop them doing natural behaviours.
Intimidating the dog to try and change their behaviour.

Regarding Adder Antivenom supplies in the UK.

There has been a shortage of supply of the Biomed antivenom (originating from Poland) which has caused issues here in the UK. It was due to the Polish regulator not being able to release the stock on time. Raman Pharma (who are the only importer of antivenom into the UK) received their first delivery 2 days ago and 95% of this stock has already been sold, mainly due to fulfilling back orders. Their next delivery is in 2 weeks, and they do not envisage that this will be delayed. The situation is therefore resolving.

Veterinary practices should be able to get adder antivenom soon either from their wholesalers or by ordering direct by calling Raman Pharma on 01252 260460 and setting up an account with them.

ARE LAUNDRY CHEMICALS AFFECTING YOUR PETS’ SKIN & HEALTH?

If you wash your pet blankets and beds using popular fabric softeners and dryer sheets, that “just washed” fresh smell comes from chemicals called Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that can negatively impact your pets’ health (coughing, rashy, itchy pets, anyone?).

Dr. Anne Steinmann’s UW-Seattle research team found more than 25 VOCs emitted from dryer vents using these products, including well-known respiratory irritants like Acetone, Formaldehyde, Acetaldehyde, but also Pentane (which causes skin rashes and upset stomach), Ethyl Acetate (on the EPA’s Hazardous Waste list; causes anemia, changes in white blood cells and can damage the liver and kidneys), Benzyl Acetate (can be absorbed through the skin and is linked to pancreas problems) and Alpha-terpineol (causes headaches and nervous system disorders).

Our pets can do without having to breathe in these chemical residues or having to lay on them, so here’s our Forever Dog Tip of the day: replace chemical-laden fabric softeners with a non-toxic DIY option!

Recipe: Mix 6 cups white vinegar with 1 cup baking soda, let it fizz. When the fizz stops, pour mixture into a large glass container with a lid. Use 1 cup per load of laundry.

Not a fan of Graham Hall...hes not kind, just a show man and most people cant see past that so Im glad this post does.

Some phrases used on this particular episode of ‘Dogs behaving (very) badly’ where 8 year old Ruby would only get off the sofa if the rug was over the laminate flooring, and would sit down and stop on walks…

‘being a madam’

‘Controlling the diva’

‘Indulging her with rugs’

‘Thinks she’s in charge’

OR

Is this actually a dog in pain, a dog scared of slipping and hurting, a dog trying to tell everyone that she’s uncomfortable?

It’s not indulging her with a rug, it’s making sure her own home is accessible and safe for her. She’s not ‘being a diva’ and refusing to walk, she’s telling you it hurts and she’s uncomfortable.

I’m very glad that the owners realise that this dogs weight is having a significant impact on her life but there are other things that need addressing here. I have no doubt they absolutely adore their girl, that is very clear to see, but I desperately wish they had the right kind of support for Ruby, not just let’s force her to walk and walk on a floor she’s is scared

Dogs Behaving Very Badly and The Dogfather (Graham Hall)… I’m afraid the blame falls to you on this occasion. You have a massive platform with thousands of dog owners watching every episode. How about talking about signs of pain? Indicators of discomfort? When behaviours actually tell us somethings wrong? Ways to adapt houses for older dogs and those that struggle with mobility? You could educate SO MANY owners but no, it doesn’t happen. Instead we just see an uncomfortable dog being forced to walk when she doesn’t want to, and live in an environment that she is scared of.

Dogs need us to advocate for them, to realise when we need to do more and to learn the ways that they tell us something isn’t right. Owner education is the key to this and this could have been a brilliant opportunity to do just that.
