Friends of Highlands County Animal Services PLEASE READ!! We are not Highlands County Animal Services!! The caretaker(s) informs us of behaviors that they see inside the shelter environment.

We are volunteers who work closely with the shelter to help place animals that are looking for a safe home. Please note that “Friends of Highlands County Animal Services” is run by volunteers that work closely with Highlands County Animal Services in order to help the animals in the shelter get noticed, adopted or rescued. The “Friends of Highlands County Animal Services” page and any parties involved in posting available animals make no claims regarding temperament. However, these behaviors can change in various environments. We are always looking for:
- Adopters who are willing to give a permanent home to a shelter pet.
- Rescues who can take dogs, cats and other animals.
- Fosters who are eager to work with rescues to temporarily take in animals.
- Followers who will share posts and contact rescues or individuals to aid the shelter.
- Pledgers who assist in covering vetting costs and other expenses.
- Volunteers who can transport animals to rescues or adopters. Thank you for your help!!

Had a fantabulous adoption event at the Sun 'N Lake Turkey Trot today.
Unfortunately Joy, Cedar & Jonah did not find their forever homes, but they did receive so much love from everyone!!
One couple was looking for an older dog, so Officer Kling suggested that they go to Animal Services and meet Charlie. They met Charlie and decided to adopt him!!

ADOPTION FEE:
$90 Non-Spayed Female (covers spay surgery, rabies vaccine, heartworm test and microchip)
$80 Non-Neutered Males (covers neuter surgery, rabies vaccine, heartworm test and microchip)
$35 Fixed Male or Female (covers impound fee, rabies vaccine, heartworm test and microchip)

501c3 rescues can pull for free (does not cover spay/neuter)

Rescues must provide spay/neuter paperwork to Highlands County Animal Services within 30 days

Please be aware that when you adopt a dog/cat from Animal Services and they go to the veterinarian for their spay/neuter surgery, they will charge you a small fee for a bath & flea/tick prevention.
