Yesterday, beautiful Sophie (previously Sassy) was called over the rainbow bridge, 2 weeks after her 15th birthday.
The equally beautiful human who adopted her rang to say how thankful she was to have Sophie in her life, even if it was not quite a year.
From her first day, she gave all her love, unreservedly - despite this being her 5th home, she still had trust in humanity. She was a special one.

🐾 INDIE UPDATE 🐾
We helped find this pretty 5 yr old girl a home this week & seems she has really ‘landed on her paws’.
The 2nd photo shows Indie on her first day in her new home, keeping her new human company while she works.
Apparently she is following her new human mumma everywhere… We all know what that’s like!!
This leggy blonde joins a lovely family in Sydney with 11 yr old son & 2 yr old Nala the Kelpie X.

This is a personal plea for help… my own 4 year old Sheltie Biggs was diagnosed with Gallbladder Mucocele today, the same disease that took my beloved Fonzie (his uncle) from me just 1 year ago.
He threw up a few times last week, now a specialist says he needs surgery to save his life & wants him in on Monday. My world is reeling… how is this happening…
Biggs is a rescue himself - he came into my life at a mere 24 hours old, a tiny pink/ grey creature of 110 grams, cold & listless, barely alive & suffering hypoglycaemia.
Now he needs me to save him again & I need all the help I can get. It kills me to put my hand out, but for my baby boy, anything… Please, if you can spare just a few dollars, it all adds up…

Swaggr is in fine health: a champion ex-show & stud dog (hence females only) so he is a dream to handle, groom & walk on lead.
Another condition is a quiet household - not many visitors & no young children. A mature couple would be ideal.

We have a bonded pair of young Sheltie boys looking for their forever home. Their current family had to make the hard decision to rehome them because they are moving to Switzerland to care for an ageing parent.
I met 3.5 yr-old Whiski & 2 yr-old Soda recently - they are lovely, gentle, well-behaved kids who are clearly great friends & must be placed together. This is not up for negotiation!
Whiski, the gold boy, came to live with his family at about 6 months old when he grew too tall for the show ring. He is high energy one, sometimes a bit anxious, but he was the one that came for pats first & laid down at my feet! Being an ex-show dog, he is very easy to groom.
Soda, the shaded boy, was bought as a puppy & he is the cool dude of the duo. A easygoing pup, he really grounded his new sibling Whiski, showed him that it was okay to play & how to chill. He is the more affectionate one.
These boys have been dearly loved family members, included in daily life with visits to Bunnings & romps on the beach. They are both pedigrees, desexed, fully vaccinated/ wormed/ flea treated & come with beds, etc… all their own stuff to ease the transition.
They do not bark overly much (no more than a normal Sheltie lol!), sit for dinner, walk well on lead, are used to regular visitors & house sitters, homed-groomed so fairly easy to handle, & fine with kids… they really have no shortcomings to speak of!
The boys do not have experience with other small pets & I would caution against it… not being raised with them, I would be concerned for the cat/ bunny’s safety with two energetic young Shelties.
I think it best that they go to a family of at least two people who’ve had Shelties before but do NOT currently have a dog/s — We want them to get optimal individual attention & not encroach on an existing dog’s world, being two of them coming in new.
It is our hope that the new owners can visit a few times between now & May before the boys join them, making the rehome adjustment as smooth as possible.

Freshly bathed & trimmed, look at our burger boy’s beautiful coat now!
Only one small patch on his tail is still not growing; that patch on his rump has lots of soft fur & I’m sure the topcoat is not far behind.
Bae Bae goes back home tomorrow after his 2nd stay (due to overseas family visiting) & his humans cannot wait for their affectionate little teddy bear to return ❤️

His 3 week holiday is up today…
We all watched Bailey’s amazing physical transformation in foster, but I want to take a moment to tell y’all how far our Burger-boy has come emotionally since his rescue last Christmas.
When he arrived, my Shelties could not even walk past Bailey without him snarling & lunging out to bite them. That was his go-to. No whale-eye, growling or raised lips… straight to offence.
I understand his previous owner took him to dog parks where he was expected to fend for himself. Being so ridiculously obese, he was not ABLE to do anything other than lash out to make other dogs leave him alone.
Well, this remarkable boy has not only learnt to use his basic snarl* (silent raised lips) again, but when he is worried about a situation, he takes himself away from it - moves out of the room or go behind a baby gate… because now he can!
Please, never reprimand your Sheltie for growling!! They are speaking to you & if you ignore them, it can only escalate. If you punish them, it certainly will. 
*see below when my Sassafras approached while Bailey was on the couch with me & I was eating pizza. I told Bailey “it’s okay” in a light voice & asked Sassa to move away. Then I calmly put Bailey off the couch. And his legs are dirty from running through a creek.

🐾 SASSY UPDATE 🐾
After almost six months in foster & five previous owners, this darling gentle little soul finally has her forever home at 14 years old.
Here you can see Sassy in Maitland with her new humans, Brenda & Mark, where she joins Mia the 6 yr old rescue Pomeranian. They are calling her their Christmas miracle!
Brenda came to meet Sass back in October & it was planned that she go to live with her mid-November, after her last physio appointment & her weight was stable.
Well, it was that week everything started going wrong! Multiple vet visits, hypothyroidism diagnosis, a near-death experience, complex desexing & two Covid cases later, the day finally came…
Her ‘delivery’ yesterday went beautifully & when I left, she was lying calmly next to her new guardians. Apparently she has claimed Mark as her special person & slept soundly next to his bed 😍
Wasn’t our special burger boy spoilt by his new humans for hist first post-rescue Christmas?!
Bailey is enjoying his holiday back with us for a few weeks ❤️🎄

The saga with Sassy’s health continues..! First up, let me say that she is well & she plans to go to her new home this week. But it’s been very up ‘n down this last month!
Turns out, the now 14 y/o lady is entire (I was advised she was desexed) so yesterday, she was speyed.
Hate to put such an old dog through surgery, but it was even more necessary than we first thought… she had a multi-resistant closed pyometra, plus cysts the size of golf balls on her ovaries.
Today she is feeling somewhat worse for wear but she’s okay & can now heal with all that nasty pus removed.
The Club has spent over $1000 on Sassy’s rehabilitation & we are waiving her adoption fee.
* Vet fees (tests that revealed hypothyroidism, then xrays, u/s, bloods, swabs for the enlarged v***a, which resulted in desexing).
* Acupuncture/ chiro fees for her 2 torn knee ligaments.
* 4cyte & food for 5 months in foster.
We wish to appeal to our generous supporters, that if they can spare something to donate towards replenishing our rescue fund for the next Sheltie who needs our help.

Sass is such a delightful old girl who does not look her age at all… so sweet & gentle, we hope she has a few years left in her yet!

We discovered that she has hypothyroidism, which explains why Revesby Fat Camp has not had its usual success, plus stomatitis, and a UTI.
Said UTI turned out to be multi resistant (so the anitbiotics had nil effect) & progressed to her bladder, then kidneys…
It looked very much like we might lose her yesterday. But no! Little Sass defied the odds & rallied!!

Excited to visit my Burger-boy at the Sheltie gathering at his home in Berrima today… he heard my voice & came a-running!!
We had lots of cuddles & when I sat on the ground, he just threw himself on me 🥰. He was also happy to see old rescue girl Sassy & they had a full flirt session 😆
Major warm & fuzzies to see him again & how completely content he is with his forever family.
🐾 CHRISSY UPDATE 🐾
Another officially adopted!  We both became quite emotional on Wednesday when I surprised Lesley at the girl’s acupuncture appointment with her papers! 🥰🥲
Lesley & Pam have done an amazing job with Chrissy’s weight loss (now down to 9.7kg from 14.5) & I have no doubt she will reach her goal weight by year’s end.
This senior Sheltie girl is completelty & utterly adored, just as it should be. And Chrissy has become best buddies with her new canine sibling, Simba (the honourary Sheltie).
There was even an impromptu party with the neighbours to celebration the occasion, bubbly ‘n’ all 🥂

🐾 SASSY UPDATE 🐾 Lately, it’s all been about the Fatboy Slim & you may have forgotten that we also have this delightful senior tri girl in care.  Her knees (torn cruciate ligaments) are much improved & I am so so pleased to report we finally have some movement on her weight loss! After a month in plateaued frustration, little Sass lost a whole kilo in September which brings her down to 7.3kg.  I would like another kilo to come off – she has a very small frame & we need to help her knees as much as possible.  Even more exciting, she has someone coming to meet her in 2 weeks & hopefully she will be almost ready to go to her new home!
Bailey, already starting to follow his new mistress… And be comfortable with his two new Sheltie brothers.

🐾 BAILEY UPDATE 🐾 My Burger-boy goes to his forever home this Saturday!! After 10 months in foster, it’s bitter sweet but Bailey will have 5 acres to romp, two new Sheltie brothers, cat, horse & sheep friends… plus two amazing humans who know no limits to love & care of their furry family. Best thing - he will stay in my life & y’all will get to see him regularly at the Southern Highlands gatherings.
🐾 BAILEY UPDATE 🐾 We have a young lady coming to help walk the rescue kids. Here is Bailey striding out, loving his jaunt around the block with Natalie. Bailey’s new humans are busy building special stairs in the front & back of their farm property for him - he goes in two weeks.

Sassy had a sleepover with Wedge & I in Bowral, then we visited my aunts on the way home… little Sass was very taken with Archie the Dachshund. How cute is her bouncing?!?!
🐾 CHRISSY UPDATE 🐾 The great news that I have to share about Chrissy is unfortunately sad news for Bailey… because Chrissy ‘stole’ his humans! Today this lucky ol’ gal is going to her forever home in the Blue Mountains to live with a lovely retired couple & their 8 yr old rescue, Simba. Chrissy recovered quickly from her surgery & yesterday had a bath (half her coat fell out! She didn’t have too much to begin with LOL) so she’s all shiny for her new people. We will work closely with her new guardians as she continues her Revesby Fat Camp regime & the adoption will not become final until she reaches her goal weight. She needs to lose another 5kg. 
I think Holly & Toonie have hit it off! 🥰 Toon is literally her brother from another mother 😂
🐾 SASSY UPDATE 🐾 This girl is just soooo happy!! An absolute delight. She loves meeting new people & Shelties, flirting with boys & girls alike. While she passed her vet check with flying colours, the visit to the chiro yesterday was not so positive… she has torn both her cruciate ligaments! No wonder she has been so unsteady in the back end, poor darling. Unfortunately it is too late for surgery so we must help her to repair them best we can. Sass as already lost a kilo since her arrival but she needs to become lean n mean if we are to give her the best chance. Her target weight will be 7-7.5kg, so another 1.5kg to go. This means that she must stay in care longer than anticipated - at least another month for acupuncture/ laser treatment & weight loss.
Dinner time always brings out the smiles & the wags!! Chrissy, Bailey, Sassy & Marcus 🐾
Bath day for Sassy - I swear, this girl cannot be 12 years old! Off to the vet for a health check tomorrow – fingers crossed all is well. 
🐾 BAILEY UPDATE 🐾 I fear the scales are lying to me… I just weighed the Fatboy & it says he is 8.5 kg 😲😲😲 That is his goal weight!! 🤩🥳 What a legend this plucky lil’ fella is, so proud of him! Now we have almost 4 weeks to stabilise… that means more tucker in ya bowl Bae Bae! YAY!
🐾. BAILEY UPDATE 🐾 As we all know, it’s those final few grams that are the hardest to shift! After a month stalling at 9.5 kg, Bae-bae has gone down to 9.2 kg! We believe we have found our Fatboy the perfect home & we will start introductions to his new furry sibling in early August. 
🐾 BAILEY AFTER DARK 🐾 It’s after 11pm which is the perfect time to incessantly squeak your burger!
Look at the Bae-bae go! Bailey’s typical Sheltie nature is revealed in his fervour to defeat the dreaded lawn mower!! He is down to 10kg this week & I suppose I should start entertaining thoughts of his new home… Despite his perceived friendliness, he is a worried fellow, quite untrusting of strangers, so it would be great if they could visit a few times before he joins them.
🐾 BAILEY UPDATE 🐾 Slowly but surely, the weight continues to come off - now 10.3kg We visited Neil the wizard this week to assess his physical form: Bailey has no treatable issues. One of the ‘untreatables’ is partially fused elbows - only 30% movement. Sad. We know about the collapsed hocks & hip arthritis. Good news as his topline (spine) is okay as are his stifles (knees). No marathons for this Fatboy, but we knew that. He will not be able to go anywhere with more than 1-2 steps and only do as much exercise as he chooses… pottering & a bit of play.
