I don't often post much about Herbert anymore, although I promise to get back into it soon. To be honest, my care of my baby hasn't been the best recently. It's hard to get him out for some social time with our most recent addition, Roxy, because they can't really be around each other for obvious reasons (namely Roxy is too big and too curious for her own good). So I've been neglecting him a bit, but I'm making a vow now to give him some more attention. He recently turned 3, and hedgehogs don't have a very long lifespan compared to us (on average 2-6 years). I realized that I am his whole life, and if I want him to have a happy one, then I need to make that happen.
As a start, I cleaned out his cage thoroughly today. In the process, I noticed that he had some crud built up on one of his toes, so naturally I tried to get it off, but it wouldn't budge. I decided to give him a little foot bath so that it would loosen and either fall off on it's own or I could take it off myself. Herbert usually has a small blue tub that he takes his baths in, and I always thought that he didn't like baths. So today, I tried something new! I put him in my big bathtub at home so he wouldn't feel so enclosed and cornered, and look how much better he likes it! I'm so glad that I was able to give him an enjoyable bath for the first time, and in the future I will definitely be more consious of that. After his bath, I clipped some of his nails (which he still doesn't like, but oh well, you can't win every battle), and we had a lovely cuddle sesh while he dried off. Our fruit cups that I usually give as treats are all expired, so I tried something new for him: scrambled eggs! He didn't like them, but oh well! Roxy will be happy because she'll get the remains in her dinner tonight.
In conclusion, PLEASE remember that you are everything for whatever pet that you have. And I hope you guys are looking forward to more cuteness from this little guy! Thank you all for your continued support.
Love, Em 🦔 and Herbert 🐾
