Scout's Honor rescues animals from city pounds, including animals from various animal shelters in the Houston and surrounding areas. Scout's Honor also takes in animals living on the streets. We do not limit our program to healthy animals or particular breeds, and we often save animals from abusive situations. Scout's Honor provides these beautiful creatures with a second chance to be placed in lo

ving, permanent homes so that they can receive the love and attention they sorely deserve. Since our formation, Scout's Honor has rescued over 900 animals and currently has over 80 dogs and cats in our program! Scout's Honor's rescue program is "foster based"; that is, each of the animals we rescue is placed in a temporary foster home, where it receives much-needed love, care, and structure while it waits for its permanent home. We could not exist without our wonderful foster parents. Unfortunately, Scout's Honor is unable to take in each animal about which we are contacted. We simply do not have enough money, fosters, or other necessary resources to help all the stray and neglected animals in the Houston area (and, believe us, there are an overwhelming number of needy animals in Houston!). Our ability to take in a dog or cat depends on our current funding, our volunteers, and whether we have an available foster home. Many times we are forced to close our intake when we run low on any of these. We never wish to turn away an animal in need, but sometimes we do not have the luxury to choose. With broken hearts, we share that SHR Alumni, Macy, has crossed rainbow bridge. Macy was a happy tail in every way and in ways we could have never imagined. Her survival story inspired thousands and it is dogs like Macy that make rescue worth all the blood, sweat and tears.

We have no words to express how incredibly thankful we are for her AMAZING family that opened their home to Macy, Sully and later Cali. The LOVE they poured into Macy is nothing short of awe inspiring. A special thank you to her foster parents too that helped her trust humans again.

We love you Macy. Run Free sweet girl.

Last week, we had to say a very painful and unexpected goodbye to our Scout's Honor Rescue, Inc. foster dog, Livia. Our quirky long-haired Rottie was named after Livia Drusilla.

You might remember that Livia came to us about a year ago with a severely mangled leg, which had to be amputated immediately. She recovered with us and eventually became our foster dog.

Despite her resilience, Livia faced many challenges. Along with being a tripod, she also suffered from severe hip dysplasia. We had scheduled her first of two total hip replacements for August 8, but things took a tragic turn the week before. She developed a bump on her nose that we were investigating when she suddenly began coughing and struggling to breathe. Tests and imaging confirmed our worst fears—Livia had lung cancer, which had spread to other parts of her body.

Livia is now at peace, back home with us in spirit. We know she’s flying with the angels, running around with her signature mohawk and tongue hanging out. 🌈❤️❤️❤️💔

A very special thank you to Dr. Gutierrez with Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice who came to our house so Livia could be at the one place she loved and felt safe. ❤️

Dear friends,
It is with the heaviest hearts we let you know that we have lost a legend- our sweetest boy Peanut❤️.

If you have been with us awhile you will remember that he was the happiest boy who waited so long to find his place. Peanut had his own fan club that visited him on adoption days. Nobody understood why this boy took so long. He was such a special boy! Then one day his family showed up. After years and years of boarding Peanut found a mom and dad and grandma who loved him. He also had a fantastic canine sibling and even adopted a kitten. We are so thrilled for the life our boy finally got. He was loved by so many.
Huge thanks to all who loved him and especially his family for believing in him❤️

Dear Friend,

I’m Deacon, and I’ve walked through some of life’s darkest alleys. When they found me, I was hurting—my wounds told a story of pain that words can’t describe. The vets suspect it was a sharp object, a cruel cut that I silently carried for weeks. But let me tell you, I’ve fought my battles, and now I stand here, healed and hopeful.

It’s been a tough journey, one that no soul should endure. Yet, through it all, I’ve held onto hope and kindness. My spirit remains unbroken, and my heart still beats with love and longing for affection.

At 2-3 years old and weighing around 50 pounds, I might seem small in size, but my capacity for love is immeasurable. I’m not the rowdy type—I cherish moments of playfulness but crave the steady warmth of a loving home.

I understand if you hesitate, but I ask for one thing: consider being the beacon of light in my life. Fostering or adopting me means more than words can express. I’ve seen the worst, but I still believe in the kindness of hearts like yours.

Your care and compassion could rewrite the painful chapters of my past and give me the forever home I’ve been dreaming of. Together, we can create a new story—one filled with love, healing, and the promise of brighter days.

Check out SHR alumni Paloma on the award stage for her fly ball competition at the Houston World Series of Dog Shows!!

Paloma finished out the weekend with a new title. The video in the comments is of the race where she earned her 500th point. Also, thanks to her consistency, her team won their division, which is not something they usually do. She had an amazing weekend! Congratulations to Paloma, her family and team!!

Meet the very adorable Duke Ralphie! This guy is hysterical…Mr.Personality!
Don’t let his size fool you. He is not some cutie patootie couch potato. This boy is looking for ADVENTURE!!!

Duke Ralphie came to us from a small town where he used to be safe to visit his friends and neighbors with no trouble. But something changed in a neighbor and she was out to get the little guy and would actually try to run over him.

Duke Ralphie’s family actually loved him but they had no way to keep him safe so they agreed to let us help find him a new home.

Duke Ralphie is possibly a beagle/jack russel/chihuahua mix. He may weigh in at about 25-30 pounds, but again he is not the typical little. This guy could run the Rice track, hike for miles, dog park, coffee shop, bar hop with the best of them. Oh, and he loves fetch!!!

Oh my goodness! This guy has turned out to be such a cutie. Arlo is a total character who will keep you laughing.

Arlo was tied up behind an H‑E‑B for over 12 hours. Nobody knows how or why but thank goodness a Good Samaritan saw him and took him home.

Arlo is an Australian shepherd mix about 3-4 years old. He weighs right around 40 pounds. He has the absolute cutest prance, a HUGE SMILE, and absolutely loves his “puppy massage”

Arlo is up to date on vaccines and is neutered. Sadly he is heartworm positive but Scout’s Honor Rescue will cover the cost of his slow kill treatment.

Simone is a beautiful 2 year old female chocolate lab. She was found by a Good Samaritan who was able to hold her until we could take her. Thank goodness!!!!

Simone is incredibly sweet, loves kids, good with other dogs. And surprisingly she is heartworm negative.

Willow’s journey took an unexpected turn one Saturday morning when she was discovered wandering the streets, narrowly avoiding a close encounter with traffic. A vigilant volunteer scooped her up, ensuring her safety, and set out to reunite her with her family. To their dismay, Willow’s microchip led to a heartbreaking revelation: her previous owners chose not to welcome her back into their lives. It’s a mystery to us, too, why such a sweet soul like Willow found herself unwanted.

Willow, a charming medium-sized Husky around 7 years old, has stolen our hearts with her gentle demeanor and loving nature. She’s proven to be very versatile, getting along famously with other dogs and even extending her warm paw of friendship to feline friends during a cat test. During a car ride with a 9-year-old companion, she showcased her impeccable manners and affectionate disposition.

Now, Willow longs for the security and comfort of a forever home. She’s a good girl through and through, yearning for nothing more than a family to call her own once again. Introducing Alexander, a gentle soul in need of a loving home. Alexander, along with his companion, was discovered by one of our compassionate volunteers, nestled in a parking lot looking forlorn yet composed. Their undeniable bond was evident as they refused to part ways, showcasing a heartwarming loyalty or a dire need for companionship.

Despite a touch of timidity, Alexander’s sweetness shines through. Upon offering them water, they eagerly drank, indicating their thirst and the immediate care they required. The sight of them cuddled up together in the car after rescue speaks volumes about their inseparable connection.

Alexander, with his striking light tan fur and a velvety coat, appears to have been cared for in the past. At just 2 years old, he embodies youth and potential for a beautiful future. We love Happy Tails!! Grace, who was adopted from us in 2017 just moved to Washington. Her family sent us this message:
“Hey y’all. I just wanted you to know we love her so much and she’s having a great life. Last fall we moved up to Washington state and now she has five acres of land to patrol. She’s a happy and sweet girl. All she wants to do is lay in the grass or be snuggled. Everyone agrees she’s very special. Thanks again for everything you did to save her”

We need FUNDS and a FOSTER (even temporarily) for sweet Juno!! This darling girl has experienced unthinkable things!

Meet Juno, a resilient female Rottweiler with a heart of gold who desperately needs a loving home. Recently rescued by BARC and part of a cruelty investigation, Juno's story is one of heartbreak and incredible strength. Found in a house where her owners had been evicted, Juno was the sole survivor among three dogs. The conditions were deplorable, and her two companions had tragically starved to death. Juno herself was in terrible shape, starving and doing what she had to survive, suffering from a cherry eye, severe skin issues, broken nails, growths, and swollen joints, making every step painful.

Despite her suffering, Juno's sweet and gentle nature shone through when we met her. Her calm demeanor during the car ride to the vet and her patience while being examined melted our hearts. The vet confirmed her gentle disposition, describing her as incredibly sweet and easy to handle.

Juno is now safe and receiving the medical attention she so desperately needs, including seven different medications and plenty of TLC. However, her journey to recovery is far from over. She will need x-rays and possibly more tests to ensure she heals fully. This brave girl would thrive in a foster home where she can receive the comfort and love she has been missing.

Meet this sweet boy, Georgie (previously Bruno), who was abandoned at a local dog park. One of our volunteers found him with a note attached. He had a family but they could no longer care for him so they left him where they hoped a true dog lover would find him. Fortunately, the plan worked.

Soldier is ready to be your very best buddy. This is one really great dog!!!

Soldier was found at a lake on Memorial Day weekend. The people who found him just knew his owner would come looking for him. He is such a great dog. Soldier got along with the other dogs, the kids, everyone.

He knows sit and down and loves to play fetch! He will actually spit the ball right at you ready to go fetch it again. He LOVES toys and walks and swimming and going for runs.

Soldier is a lab mix, about a year to year and a half old. He weighs about 50-55 pounds. He is a young, energetic boy! He is not hyper but think 5 year old little boy. This guy wants to go do things. And he is PERFECT in the car!

Our sweet Sophie has been with us so much longer than we expected!!! Can you help this precious girl find her home?

Sophie is just about 2-3 years old and about 50 pounds. She is the cutest schnauzer mix with her wiry fur. SNUGGLES are the biggest MUST in this girl’s life. She is super sweet and needs LOTS of love and attention. Sophie is great with kids and loves to lay in the sunshine in the backyard.

Sophie gets along with other dogs but seems to prefer dogs smaller than she is. She can be friends with larger dogs but it may take a few meetings. She LOVES the kitties!!!

This cool guy just caught our eye as we were at the shelter to meet some other dogs. As you can see he has a very striking appearance and is also a really friendly boy who gets along with other dogs. Stufur was picked up as a stray and just had the bad luck to end up at the shelter and no one ever came for him.

He is a young boy, about a year or so old, and is smart and trainable and eager to please. He is only about 45 pounds or so, but he has a slim frame and is about the size of a lab, just skinnier.

He has such a bright personality and loves loves to give you hugs!

House-trained and impeccably well-mannered indoors, he knows the ropes and doesn’t engage in destructive behavior like chewing.

Kasper’s loyalty shines through, a trait inherent in his breed. However, due to his cautious nature around quick movements, a home without children would be the ideal environment for him. Rottweiler enthusiasts understand the importance of structure, rules, and safety in nurturing these amazing companions. Kasper simply needs a chance to showcase his true colors and thrive with someone patient, committed, and understanding of the responsibilities that come with caring for a family member.

Balto Update!!!!!!! Geez, this boy scared us!!! We’ve had our hands full for the last 48 yrs! Not 2 days ago we thought we were going to be saying goodbye to him in the middle of the night when his body shut down. His amazing foster mom rushed up to VERGI at 3:30 in the morning and stayed there all night so he could see her, hoping that would give him a will to live. Well, it worked!!! After 3 blood transfusions (most we have ever had to do in over 16 yrs) our boy perked up, his red blood cells started increasing and tonight he’s leaving the hospital and back to his foster mom’s house. We cannot thank everyone enough for all the positive thoughts, prayers, and donations that enabled us to give him the absolute, best care and not give up on him. Thank you to Vergi!
