Scout's Honor rescues animals from city pounds, including animals from various animal shelters in the Houston and surrounding areas. Scout's Honor also takes in animals living on the streets. We do not limit our program to healthy animals or particular breeds, and we often save animals from abusive situations. ving, permanent homes so that they can receive the love and attention they sorely deserve. Since our formation, Scout's Honor has rescued over 900 animals and currently has over 80 dogs and cats in our program! Scout's Honor's rescue program is "foster based"; that is, each of the animals we rescue is placed in a temporary foster home, where it receives much-needed love, care, and structure while it waits for its permanent home. We could not exist without our wonderful foster parents. Unfortunately, Scout's Honor is unable to take in each animal about which we are contacted. We simply do not have enough money, fosters, or other necessary resources to help all the stray and neglected animals in the Houston area (and, believe us, there are an overwhelming number of needy animals in Houston!). Our ability to take in a dog or cat depends on our current funding, our volunteers, and whether we have an available foster home. Many times we are forced to close our intake when we run low on any of these. We never wish to turn away an animal in need, but sometimes we do not have the luxury to choose. We have the most amazing dogs and cats in our program! Indeed, we are almost a "one-stop-shop" for any type of dog you might want. 🐾 Short-Term Fostering = Big Impact! 🦃

Not ready to commit to long-term fostering? No problem! This Thanksgiving, you can still make a difference by providing a temporary foster home for just a few days to one of our amazing dogs in boarding still looking for homes.

Huge thanks to Houston Pet Set for a wonderful evening! This amazing organization supports local rescues and animal welfare organizations in the Houston area. This year they gifted over 90 organizations with very appreciated grants, including Scout’s Honor Rescue. Thank Houston Pet Set for helping to support us as we work to save Houston’s homeless pets.

🩷🐾Two precious girls in search of their forever homes 🩷🐾 meet Minnie and Lady! Minnie and Lady are so lucky to be in a foster together and loving every second of it, but they would LOVE to have a forever home. They don’t need to be kept together, but would both love homes with other dogs. They are also both friendly with cats and bunnies, so will fit in great with all your furry friends at home! Frank and Clair did amazing on their outing to the vet today! They are both healthy which is remarkable given all they have been through in their short lives. Unfortunately, they are heartworm positive and we rely on your donations for their treatment! Please consider donating- $20 a month can help cover one dog’s heartworm medication (donation information below). Their personalities are starting to come out more now that they realize they are safe 💚🐾 these two would LOVE to be in a foster, and they don’t need to be kept together. Ladybird heard it’s officially ONE MONTH until our special holiday themed adoption event!! 💚❤️ she is soooo excited to hang out with everyone and meet some new faces. Maybe even someone who would like to adopt or foster her?? Ladybird is a 4-5 year old beautiful lab mix with the SOFTEST coat. Quick check in from our girl Sigrid to say THANK YOU to this amazing community. As you can see, she is so happy to have all of your amazing donations (including her own giant lambchop!) and she continues to receive the best medical care thanks to your financial support. Sigrid enjoyed a relaxing weekend with her wonderful foster family, probably having her first relaxing nights of sleep in a very long time. She waddles around like nothing is wrong, and is truly one of the most resilient dogs we’ve ever met. 🤍💚🤍💚

SHR Family…
Meet FORTY and stay tuned for this GLOW UP!!!

These pictures capture what makes SHR so special. Rescue is a true FAMILY AFFAIR and when we say these pups are family forever, we mean it. From the finder, to the social media share that gets our attention to the foster to the adopter. We are in this TOGETHER.

A story is so important and Forty’s broke our heart. Here’s the thing. We CANNOT AFFORD to bring in another dog. We CANNOT afford the vetting, the boarding, the everything but when we received Forty’s story, we COULD NOT say no.

A civil servant reached out to us after witnessing Forty being thrown from a window and suspended from a chain and thrashed against a building until her body went limp. Brave rescuers went into action to save her and we could NOT have her fate be the same as most black dogs in shelters.

So meet Forty, the newest member of the Scout’s Honor Family. And let’s watch this sweet PUPPY grow into an amazing dog with a family she deserves.

🩷Sigrid (fka Latto) update: we are SO thankful that Sigrid is settling into her foster today after a long 5 days in the emergency vet. The worst is over, but she has a LONG road to recovery ahead. One of her front legs still has exposed bone, which requires complex bandage changes and lots of medication to avoid infection. She is handling the medication and bandage changes like a champ, as you can see in the video. She is so calm and loves everyone she meets- especially the team at Vergi and her new foster!! Everyone who sees this girl immediately falls in love with her sweet soul and squishy body! We simply cannot believe she has been failed by so many people in her past. On top of everything going on with her attack wounds, she’s also battling a severe ear infection she’s probably had for years due to cropping.

We still need your help!! We are looking at over $7K in vet bills from the last 5 days in the ER. Sigrid will be going back daily for at least a week for bandage changes, and after that will require 4-6 weeks of additional bandage changes her AMAZING foster is committed to doing. Ziggy is FRESH out of surgery and thanks to this amazing community, hitched a ride back to boarding. Seems simple right? Nope. If you remember, Ziggy was thrown from a truck by his so-called family and chased it for miles until he couldn’t anymore. CAN YOU IMAGINE LEAVING THESE PUPPY EYES BEHIND??? So car rides for him are scary. Thankfully we have amazing volunteers that love him through his fear and get him safely back to people he knows. Every moment with him is a confidence builder that he won’t be abandoned ever again!!

You’re likely sick of seeing the cones of shame and so are we because surgery is EXPENSIVE!! He is now neutered though and one step closer to being adopted to a TRUE forever home! Please consider donating to his vetting costs:

Meet beautiful brown eyed Weezy! fka Louisiana.

Her amazing personality caught our attention while saving a few other dogs at Harris County. Like so many others, she was on the euthanasia list simply due to time and space at the shelter. Weezy is such a sweetheart and loves other dogs. We think she is around 2-3 years old and a lab / shepherd mix with stunning, big brown eyes! She’s a little shy at first, and does the cutest little low crawl walk until she gets comfortable.

We would love to learn more about Weezy with the help of a foster home. Fosters help us get to know our dogs better when they can thrive in a more comfortable, quiet environment. 🐾💚🐕🦴Weezy seems like such a laid back girl who can adapt to any environment! Introducing another new member of our crew, Frank (fka St. Francis) 💚🐾🐶

Frank was found in deplorable situations after his owners moved and left him and his sister Claire outside without food and water. Luckily, Harris County stepped in and rescued these two from the cruelty situation. Frank was emaciated. He should probably be ~60 lbs and was brought in at less than 35lbs. You can see he is skin and bones in the last pic. He gained about 15lbs at Harris County, and is feeling better each day! He is such a happy guy and loves other dogs. He doesn’t need to be adopted with Claire, but would probably thrive in a home with another dog. He’s estimated around 4 years old, so beyond the puppy stage but still with plenty of energy to accompany you on walks and trips to the park! We can’t wait to continue watching this guy with the cutest floppy ear continue to thrive and find his forever home!
