XL BULLY OWNERS – FINANCIAL HELP FOR NEUTERING

The process of applying for exemption for your XL Bully is now open, and owners need to apply by the end of January.

To help with neutering, our friends at Llys Nini Rspca and RSPCA Carmarthenshire are offering some financial help, if you live in the areas marked in pink on the map below.

If you require help with neutering your XL Bully type dog you can apply for assistance here - https://form.jotform.com/233373412701346

If you live in other areas, search online for your local RSPCA branch to see if they can help.

If you would like to help with a donation - the funds will be divided between the 2 RSPCA Branches and used to help people get their dogs neutered and for general vet costs.

💔 ABANDONED PUPPIES 💔

Tragically a box with four puppies has been found on the ‘Trimtrail’ behind Morrisons in Haverfordwest. We estimate they are a little more than a day old.

Found in this box with just a few bark chips 😢

They’ve now been transferred to our hand-rearing fosterers and we are praying they make it. Our vets estimate they are only around 1-2 days old.

We have such desperate times ahead of us.

We do not know what breed they are and it will be months before they are ready to find homes so we will not be discussing home offers just yet.

We need them to survive, they are having the best possible care, around the clock feeds and lots of warmth and TLC ♥️

Please keep them in your thoughts 🐶

If anyone has any information on who abandoned them or their parenting please call 07557 251669 all information will be handled sensitively and confidentially.

If you would like to support our work please look at the options below ⬇️

Found in an isolated field with a ruptured uterus.
😔😔😔
thank goodness she is with a rescue now and being looked after
SHAME on whoever let her have pups then dumped her (if that’s what’s happened) can’t imagine her finding herself in a field cold and tired any other way
Poor thing 😢
If anyone has just bought a puppy ask to see the mum and make sure she is ok.

We would like to provide an update on the stray female dachshund that was presented to us for emergency treatment last night. We appreciate that due to her high social media presence the public are keen to know how she is getting on.

There are many questions to be answered, firstly how she found herself in an isolated field in a very poorly condition after very recently giving birth. Secondly where are her puppies?

She is now under the care of https://www.facebook.com/DachshundRescueUK who are funding her life saving care.

After a night in ICU being stabilised by the critical care team, today she had a hysterectomy due to her uterus being ruptured. (A life threatening complication of breeding)
She has recovered well from the surgery but is still critically unwell with a long road to full recovery.

If anyone has information on how she ended up in this tragic situation please call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.

As previously stated we are concerned there could be puppies somewhere needing appropriate care. The charity and ourselves are willing to assist should our services be required.

Could we politely request that people do not call requesting updates, please remember it is an emergency service so it’s essential to keep lines free for new emergencies.

We trust this update gives you reassurance that she is having the care she needs.

It’s also very kind that so many people want to contribute to her treatment, please arrange donations directly with the charity via their PayPal - https://www.paypal.com/fundraiser/charity/3225376

⭐️⭐️⭐️WE NEED YOUR HELP⭐️⭐️⭐️

⭐️⭐️⭐️PLEASE SHARE⭐️⭐️⭐️

It's that time of year when we get inundated with hedgehogs, quite often juveniles that aren't big enough to hibernate this winter and find themselves out and about in the day on the search for food. These hedgehogs will likely not make it through the winter without our help.

When we have checked the hedgehogs over and given them treatment where necessary, sometimes all they need is a warm safe space in a cage or hutch in a shed to feed up over the winter period and be released during the warmer months once they reach a good weight.

If you think you can provide a hedgehog with a warm, safe space and provide food, water, and bedding over winter, please call us, and we can keep your details on file😁

Also, if you have any suitable guinea pig type cages, small towels, newspapers, or small bowels, please drop them off at our Llanishen branch. These can be given to fosterers to house the hedgehogs in of needed.

Can we please ask that you call us BEFORE you bring hedgehogs to us so we can see if have the capacity to house them within the practice as often out kennels are full.

Please share this post and help if you can. Much appreciated.

Love Will Not Save Our Dogs

My biggest fear when it comes to dogs, the upcoming ban of XL Bullies, the next status dog (cos let’s face it, the XL bully won’t be the last ban) and the state of the dog world in general is not ‘The Sun Newspaper’s’ depiction of a dangerous dog owner. It isn’t the lad down the road in his trackies with a smoke in his hand. It isn’t the supposedly torrid and aggressive council estate ‘yobs’ that the UK mainstream media would have you believe are the threat.

My fear is actually the unwitting dog lover. The person who adopts a dog or takes on an unwanted dog because they want to show the world that if you just show them love, they will never demonstrate any aggressive behaviour. I see them commenting on Facebook posts of dogs available for adoption, or dogs facing euthanasia saying ‘I’ll give him love and a warm sofa!’ like that will be the full answer and solution.

My fear is the ‘adopt don’t shop’ tirade that will take on potentially dangerous dogs (of any breed) because it’s ’all in how they are raised’ with the notion that a good meal and a cuddle will take the dangerous out of the dog.

My fear is the ‘oh this breed are gentle/small/non aggressive so they don’t need training’ brigade.

My fear is the Disney dog dream being let loose in the park because ‘they are loved so they won’t behave aggressively’.

I realise I may be upsetting some people by saying all this but those are the dogs and people I fear the most. I work with a lot of dogs whose owners are born, bred and raised on council estates with big, powerful dogs and they are the most switched on dog owners I work with. They know what their dog is, they know the limitations of their dogs, they also train their dogs far more often and with more skill than most in my experience. The media is out there to paint the council estate kid with his dog as a demon and it’s simply not true.

ALL dogs have the potential to cause damage to dogs, humans and wildlife alike. ALL dogs need training, structure and guidance to navigate our unpredictable and pressurised world. You can love the bones of your dog, you can be a dog lover, you can show a rescue dog love, but love alone won’t fix issues that stem from poor temperament or poor breeding practices.

Love isn’t enough. Whether you have a Bully, a shepherd, a retriever, a hound or any breed.

Train your dog. Regardless of breed.

Teach boundaries, teach structure, teach kindness and teach impulse control. Regardless of breed.

Be responsible for your dog. Know what they are and up your game. Regardless of breed.

Love isn’t enough. It’s part of the picture but if you think it’s the whole picture, you are the problem.

📣🐕 Muzzle training with our experts

If you own an American Bully XL type dog, you can start preparing them for the restrictions by making sure they are trained to happily wear a muzzle.

We’re offering free online sessions to help you do this and will cover:
👉 information about the most suitable types of muzzle
👉 how to ensure a good fit
👉 how to teach your dog to enjoy wearing their muzzle.

Book now 👉 https://bit.ly/3RsuUCw

Our expert trainers have muzzle trained thousands of dogs in our care and can answer any other questions you might have about how to prepare for any upcoming changes affecting you and your dog.

These sessions are designed to support owners of American Bully XLs in light of the recent news, but all dog owners are welcome to attend. It’s useful for all dogs to be able to wear a muzzle comfortably – for those who are anxious at vet visits, for dogs who like to eat undesirable things on a walk or to keep other dogs and people safe if dogs are worried.
