AZ CACTUS CORGI RESCUE Breed Rescue. Rehoming displaced Corgis, both Cardigans and Pembrokes We adopt to Arizona families. WE ALSO NEED FOSTER HOMES!

If interested in adopting, please review our adoption process:
http://www.azcactuscorgirescue.com/adoptionprocess.aspx AZ Cactus Corgi Rescue is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization that is foster-based. You can donate here: http://azcactuscorgirescue.com/donate.aspx TAX DEDUCTIBLE! THE ONLY WAY TO FOSTER/ADOPT ANY DOG FROM AZ CACTUS CORGI RESCUE IS TO FILL OUT OUR ONLINE APPLICATION AND BE FULLY

APPROVED (ARIZONA RESIDENTS ONLY). Learn more here: http://azcactuscorgirescue.com/adoptionprocess.aspx

We are ALWAYS IN NEED OF FOSTER HOMES! When we are contacted about a Corgi in need (lost or owner surrendered) we need for that Corgi to go into a foster home first. All dogs are provided with and immediate check-up and medical attention if necessary. They will then go to a pre-approved foster home, where their personalities will be fully vetted in order for them to be placed/adopted into the right home. Many of our pre-approved foster homes end up "failing" and have the first right of adoption! We ENCOURAGE anyone interested in adopting one of our Corgis to pro-actively fill out the online application http://azcactuscorgirescue.com/adoptionprocess.aspx since most times, those that are approved, will have the first chance of adopting new rescues that come in.

🐾So happy to say here we are again! A few weeks ago we had a “foster failure” with our handsome boy Flash, who is now Fleury❤️🐾

What’s a foster failure you may ask? It’s when we have a wonderful foster home to bring one of AZ Cactus Corgi Rescue Corgis into and the foster mom/or dad, falls madly, in love with the Corgi and decides to officially adopt!

Remember, in order for AZ Cactus Corgi Rescue to take in a new rescue we need a foster home for the Corgi to go to. You can be of HUGE SUPPORT if you have the right home (no apartments) environment, if you’re interested, just fill out the ONLINE APPLICATION: http://www.azcactuscorgirescue.com/adoptionprocess.aspx and notate FOSTER.

Second, if you want to adopt a Corgi from AZ CACTUS CORGI RESCUE FILL OUT THE ONLINE APPLICATION: http://www.azcactuscorgirescue.com/adoptionprocess.aspx AHEAD OF TIME SO THAT YOU CAN BE PRE-APPROVED AND WHEN A CORGI COMES INTO US AND IF YOU HAVE THE SUITABLE HOME (no apartments) ENVIRONMENT, YOU MAY BE FIRST IN LINE, JUST LIKE OUR NEWEST ADOPTERS!

Thank you again to our supportive foster homes and CONGRATULATIONS AND HAPPY TAILS TO FLEURY AND HIS MOM NICOLE!😍

If you have lost a beloved fur baby and would like to have his/her name said during the summer solstice please read the post below and respond directly to the Llyr's Fire post below and not to our page🌈

On Thursday 20 June 2024, I will once again light Llyr's Fire and speak the names with love and tears. I will stop taking names for this June fire on June 18th to give me time to curate the list. If you have a name to add, please post it here or DM this page. We remember...

FINALLY, THE GREAT NEWS!🥳 Help us congratulate Max who recently came to us! 💥IMPORTANT PSA!💥
In the desert southwest, summer is fast approaching! Phoenix/Tucson are already in the mid 90s (10 degrees above average) so we thought it would be helpful for all of AZ CACTUS CORGI RESCUE's furiends to be better prepared for the searing heat and please feel free to share!

First and foremost, NEVER EVER LEAVE YOUR DOG IN A LOCKED CAR! But, if it’s an emergency and you have to leave them, PLEASE READ THESE TIPS: https://shopus.furbo.com/.../leave-your-dog-in-the-car
*At 70 degrees Fahrenheit, your car can heat up to 89 degrees in 10 minutes and 104 degrees in 30 minutes.
*At 80 degrees Fahrenheit, your car can heat up to 99 degrees in 10 minutes and 114 degrees in 30 minutes.
*At 95 degrees Fahrenheit, your car can heat up to 114 degrees in 10 minutes and 129 degrees in 30 minutes.

WHEN TO WALK/EXERCISE!
For those of us that are all too familiar with how hot it gets in Arizona, we know that walking or exercising the pups in the early morning or later in the evening, is the ONLY way to go! But if you’re new to the area, you may not realize yet, what “HOT” truly means, especially to your pup! So it’s best, during the summers in the deserts of AZ, that we schedule our active time for early mornings (sunrise) to NO LATER THAN 9-10:00 am, depending on how hot the high temperature will get. Wetting your dog’s coats down before activity helps keep them cool while exercising too. In the evenings close to sunset and dark is another time for exercise, however, temperatures can still be over 100 degrees at sunset and in the height of summer the low temperature can stay in the 90’s! So moderate exercise and monitor their panting to make sure they are not over doing it.

HYDRATION IS SO IMPORTANT!💧
ALWAYS HAVE WATER AVAILABLE DURING EXERCISE OR WALKS FOR THEM TO DRINK. If you are away from home there are collapsible bowls you can bring with you for water. Also, a kiddie pool can be used as a place for your corgi to cool off.

🐾AZ Cactus Corgi Rescue Good News Alert🐾

OH MY DOG, look who found his forever home, our sweet boy Cooper!😍

Cooper had to be the only dog in the home and it took a lot of patience and diligence to find the perfect match but he is now a part of Mike’s and Mary‘s family and will be the mini king of their castle 👑 We are so happy for everyone involved, our hearts are full when after a period of time waiting we are able to make such a match made in heaven. Foster/Adopter Online Application Here: http://azcactuscorgirescue.com/adoptionprocess.aspx

ABOUT COOPER
We know the right home is out there for this almost 3-year old affectionate bundle of energy named Cooper! He’s a Corgi/Blue Heeler mix that’s a loving companion with a charismatic personality😍

Cooper (turns 3 years old in July) is fully vaccinated and neutered and MUST BE THE ONLY PET IN THE HOME, YOUR SOLE FURRY FRIEND (NO OTHER DOGS OR CATS)! But this affectionate boy LOVES KIDS so he would make a GREAT FAMILY PET! But exercise and mental activities are vital for Cooper, taking him on DAILY WALKS AND/OR HIKES ARE A MUST!

Cooper has been well-cared-for, but due to changes in living circumstances, his current owner is seeking a loving home with experience in handling high-energy cattle dogs.

If you have the experience and dedication to meet Cooper’s needs, then you’ve hit the jackpot! This sweet boy is waiting to hear from you🥹❤

Are you searching for a spirited companion to join you on outdoor escapades? Look no further than Reno, a charismatic and active 1-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi eager to find his forever home🥹

ABOUT RENO: Reno is a dashing neutered male Corgi who is one year old. His youthful energy is contagious, making him the perfect sidekick for those who love an active lifestyle. This little guy is not only adorable but also a quick learner with a strong motivation for treats
IDEAL HOME: Reno is on the lookout for an active home that can keep up with his zest for life. Due to his boisterous nature, apartment living is not the best fit for him. If you love hikes, long walks, and outdoor activities, Reno is ready to be your adventure buddy! Looking for a Sports Dog to do Agility or Barn Hunt, Reno fits that bill! Reno would do best in a home with experienced dog owners who are willing to invest time in training and behavior modification. A calm and patient environment would be ideal.
TRAINING & ACTIVITIES: This smart Corgi is food-motivated and ready to shine in training classes. Reno has the potential to excel as an Agility dog, or Barn Hunt showcasing his intelligence and eagerness to learn. Engage his active mind and body with interactive activities that challenge his skills.
HOUSE MANNERS: While Reno is still learning the ropes of house manners, he is already crate trained, providing a secure and comfortable space for him. With consistent guidance and positive reinforcement, Reno is sure to blossom into a well-behaved and charming companion.
COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER PETS: Reno can be reactive when meeting new dogs, so he would thrive as the ONLY PET IN THE HOUSEHOLD OR WITH A SMALL, NEUTRAL FEMALE DOG AS A COMPANION. Reno has also shown resource guarding tendencies, particularly around high-value items like food and toys. It's important for potential adopters to be aware of this behavior and be committed to working on positive reinforcement training to help modify and manage it. Reno has made progress during his time in his foster homes, and with continued training and consistency, he can thrive in a loving home. Reno’s high prey drive makes him a fantastic candidate for Barn Hunt, but he should not be trusted with cats, bird or small mammals.
NOT SUITABLE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN: Reno, being a lively and boisterous pup, is not comfortable around children under the age of 7. For the safety and comfort of both Reno and the children, a home with older kids or adults would be the best match.
PREVIOUS CARE: When Reno came to rescue it was discovered that he was positive for a tick-borne disease common in Arizona. Reno has been successfully treated for this disease, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Reno is excitedly awaiting the opportunity to become a cherished member of a loving family. If you're ready for the joy and adventure that Reno brings, contact us to arrange a meeting and discover if this spirited Corgi is the perfect match for your active lifestyle!🥰

Are you ready for a bundle of energy, intelligence, and affection? Look no further than Cooper, a delightful 3-year-old Corgi/Blue Heeler mix who is eagerly waiting to find his forever home!

About Cooper: Cooper is a charismatic and loving companion, set to celebrate his 3rd birthday in July. He's fully vaccinated, neutered, and ready to embark on new adventures with his forever family. This handsome fellow has a distinctive Corgi appearance and the boundless energy of a Blue Heeler, making him the perfect blend of charm and activity.

Ideal Home: Cooper is seeking a special home where he can be THE SOLE FURRY FRIEND (aka, ONLY DOG/PET IN THE HOME). He has shown some reservation around other male dogs, so a ONE-PET HOUSEHOLD would be ideal for this unique pup. **Cooper has also demonstrated resource guarding tendencies and protective instincts, making an experienced owner who can provide consistent guidance essential.

Intelligence and Stimulation: This clever boy craves mental and physical stimulation daily. Engage his sharp mind with dog puzzles, take him for walks, go on hikes, and provide lick pads and Bene bones for extra enjoyment. Cooper's intelligence makes him a quick learner, and he thrives when presented with challenges.

Vocal and Entertaining: Get ready for endless entertainment! Cooper is quite vocal and boasts a big personality that adds joy to any household. Due to his expressive nature, apartment living may not be suitable for him.

Great with Kids: Cooper is a true Corgi at heart and adores being around children. His affectionate nature makes him a wonderful family dog, ready to share love and snuggles with his human companions.

Previous Care: Cooper has been well-cared-for, but due to changes in living circumstances, his current owner is seeking a loving home with experience in handling high-energy cattle dogs. Despite the need for rehoming, Cooper's loving and snuggly nature ensures he will make a fantastic companion for the right family.

Are you ready to invite Cooper into your home and heart? If you have the experience and dedication to meet his unique needs, please contact us.

**WARNING: TEARS & SMILES BELOW💔**
The majority of the time it’s inevitable, we are the ones having to say “So long, we love you, we hope to see you again one day❤🌈” to our beloved fur babies. AZ Cactus Corgi Rescue Alum, Chapo, crossed the bridge recently with the most loving assistance from his mom, Tricia, and dad, CJ. They’ve shared their Ode to Chapo below and have included cherished memories of times that won’t be forgotten.

Chapo was the first corgi we welcomed into our family. We were so excited to adopt him that we ended our summer vacation early so we could meet Vicki and take Chapo home on August 5, 2012.

Best. Decision. Ever.

When Chop first came to our family, he was a mischievous little guy. Somehow whole plates of food began to disappear off tables that were way too high for corgi legs. It took a bit to realize he was actually a physicist disguised as a corgi and that he understood how to push chairs together and use the laws of thermodynamics to propel him onto the table.

Chop was also a football player in a corgi body as he quickly demonstrated the ability to tackle trash cans in search of leftover morsels of food.

I want to say we trained him well to change his behavior, but really Chop trained us to never leave food out on any surface and encouraged us to buy sturdier trash cans.

Over the last 11+ years with us, Chop had some tough times with arthritis and later in life with DM. Through it all, he never stopped smiling, being our loyal little buddy, and he definitely made sure he never missed a meal or treat.

When we knew it was Chop's last few weeks with us, he went out on his terms...with lots of friends and family stopping by & video chatting to wish him farewell and of course he had a full sampling of the human foods that were off limits in earlier years...like Chicken nuggies and pup cups.

This last week without our buddy has been both very sad and also relieving to know Chop is no longer in pain. We miss ya lots Chapo. 💗

28/01/2024

Even though we know they may not be with us forever, we still wish it to be so with everything we have. But alas, our sweetest ones eventually cross the rainbow bridge🌈

We received sad news about Bennie, AZ Cactus Corgi alum, from his wonderful but heartbroken mom Carissa and his dad Earl. Below is her tribute to her fun-loving, sweet, adorable boy😓

Our Bennie crossed the rainbow bridge on Friday, January 26, after a short battle of what was presumed to be a brain tumor. We were with him until the end, and it was quick and painless. Our hearts are broken but we know it was best for him. We will miss him endlessly💔

Bennie rode peacefully off into the sunset while in the comfort of mine and Earl’s arms. Bennie came to us in September of 2018 as a 6 year old sweet, yet mischievous furball with a heart almost as big as his appetite.

2nd photo was on his adoption ad. I couldn’t resist that sweet face and immediately applied for him. I knew in an instant he’d be the perfect addition to our family. 3rd photo is our 1st picture together, the 4th our last, everything else was in between.

Bennie was a bit of a local celebrity, known for his passion for fashion and addiction to belly rubs. At times, he was a bit of a trouble maker (lest we forget the infamous Christmas cookie incident), but always charmed his way back into our good graces with his big brown innocent eyes that could melt the coldest of hearts. Benito was always up for an adventure. He was the co-pilot on many road trips, visiting everywhere from the beaches of California, to the white sands of New Mexico, the forests of Northern Arizona, and the snow capped mountains of Utah.

Bennie was more than a pet. He was my very best friend, my little shadow, my family. We’re so lucky to have known him. On our last walk together as a family, we came across a rainbow with a dumpster at the end of it (last video). A fitting send off for a pup we nicknamed the trash man.

We will love you forever, Bennie. RIP my sweet boy❤🌈

Our Story

Our mission is to rehabilitate and re-home displaced Welsh Corgis, both Pembroke and Cardigan. We believe corgis deserve a second chance. We get our Corgis into rescue in various ways. We adopt them from shelters, network with other rescues to have them come to us and we have owners, who for various reasons are unable to take care of their corgi for any longer, turn them over to us. Our corgis are all examined by a veterinarian, have blood work performed to check for any problems, dentals performed, if needed, and are spayed or neutered prior to adoption, if needed. They receive all of their vaccinations, heartworm preventative and flea/tick preventative while in our care. Every corgi we receive in becomes a part of us and we take care of each of them just as if they were one of our own.

If you’re interested in adopting an AZCCR Corgi, you MUST follow our adoption process. Please learn about it here, along with the adoption application which can be filled out online. Adoption process here: http://www.azcactuscorgirescue.com/adoptionprocess.aspx
