On March 1st, 2022, on a lovely warm evening, Jessica took her BoomBoy into her arms and released him from our world, to a place where together they can ride like the wind and jump the stars. She’d waited 14 years to be reunited with him, and she decided it was long enough. We have been given the ultimate privilege of caring for this beautiful beast, and we were able to keep our commitment to Jess to love him, care for him, treat him like our family, and like our family, see him through to the end. I am so grateful we were able to do this for her. I’ll be a bit lost without that responsibility.
He was only about 23 or 24 years old, and he’d been dealing with some arthritis (ringbone) - X-rays taken in August of 2021 had confirmed. However, as we struggled to manage his pain and tolerance of a litany of pain meds that often led him to refuse his daily supplements and only eat hay and grass, we again took X-rays on January 27th that showed us much greater problems. His ligaments in his left front were beginning to fail. We did joint injections and yet another round of supportive shoeing. We had hoped to keep him around through summer, give him a great party to celebrate ALL who loved him. But he and Jess weren’t willing to wait. It’s my belief that those failing ligaments continued to fail much more rapidly than we had hoped. So on that bright, sunny day, we spent it loading him up with carrots and cookies, loving on him and just being with him while he grazed. Jess’ family came to say their final goodbyes. He was loved. But he was ready to go. His passing went perfectly, our vet cried with us. I know many of you will too.

Boom, I’ll miss that toothless smile and your very aggressive nudges for attention the most. And that tongue. 💙💙💙💙💙 Fly free sweet boy. MoonRock Ranch will be forever changed by your presence and we will never, ever forget you.
