TUNA FUDGE

4 cans of tuna in water (do not drain)(I found flacked Tuna the easiest to work with.)
4 eggs
3 cups flour
(Tip: Tapioca flour is AWESOME for non-crumbly treats. You can find it in the gluten-free section of the store.)

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350F.

Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper (or grease it).

Mix together eggs and tuna.

Once eggs are mixed in, gradually mix in the flour.

Spread mixture on the cookie sheet.

Bake for 40 minutes.

Let cool completely, then use a knife or pizza cutter to slice into squares.

Portion out the tuna fudge into snack-size zip baggies and store in the freezer.Cubed-Tuna-Fudge

If you wish you may add 1/4-1/2 cup of parmesan cheese and

1-2 tsp. garlic powder*.

*Garlic can be toxic to dogs. The concern is with large quantities of fresh garlic, not garlic seasoning. Ask your veterinarian if garlic seasoning is appropriate for your pet. Or, just leave it out of the recipe and make your fudge garlic-free!

Recipe is easy to half but bake for only about 20 min.

The Best Dog Tips – Summer Freezies

On a hot summer day, nothing beats something cool and refreshing to quench your thirst or snack on. Sometimes, on the hottest days of the summer, it takes creativity to ease our pets into the uncomfortable temperatures, while keeping them satisfied and happy.

Peanut butter is always a doggie-pleasing treat, unless they’re allergic of course. Even better, peanut butter and jelly treats can be the most delicious combination for people and pets. Below is a recipe that not only combines these two scrumptious ingredients, but also quenches thirst and hunger on the hottest dog days of summer.

“PB&J Freezies”

INGREDIENTS:

¼ Cup Of Cold Water
4 Tablespoons of Peanut Butter
12 Medium Strawberries
*Ice Cube Tray
COOK TIME: Overnight

PREP TIME: 5 Minutes

MAKES: About 16 treats, depending on ice tray

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS:

• Thoroughly wash all 12 strawberries.
• Cut the tops of the strawberries off.
• Place the cleaned strawberries into a blender.
• Blend the cold water and strawberries together, until they are pureed.
• When the puree is finished, fill each slot in the ice could tray about ¾ full.
• After all of the slots are full, place a large dollop of peanut butter on top of the strawberry puree.
• Wait until the peanut butter sinks into the middle of the strawberry puree and is not just sitting on top.
• Place the ice cube tray into the freezer overnight.

Once the freezies are completely frozen, they are ready to be popped, served, and devoured. This treat is the perfect summer treat that adds nutrients and protein to your dog’s diet. It also will cool your pet on a hot day and provide stimulation for your furry family member! A tip to remember when making and serving these freezies is that the strawberries can be stinky and possibly stain when come into contact with other items. These freezies are best served outdoors or in an area that can become temporarily dirty. Always ask your pet to perform a task prior to receiving a positive reward, and enjoy every minute of these yummy summer freezies!

In the spirit of Earth Day, we wanted to share 6 tips with you to keep your pet “earth-friendly” on Earth Day.

1. Use Biodegradable Dog Waste Bags

Plastic grocery bags are a terrible bag to use, as they are not biodegradable and are suffocating our landfills.

2. Don’t Shop… Adopt!

Overpopulation – and consequently euthanization – is the #1 killer of dogs in the U.S. Visit your local shelter and adopt, or volunteer to be a foster home for a pet.

3. Replace Old Dog Toys with New, Earth Friendly Alternatives

Replace toys that are in bad shape with an earth-friendly alternative. You can even reuse your old cotton socks with missing pairs by turning them into home-made dog toys!

4. Choose an Earth-Friendly dog bed that is filled with a 100% organic or recycled fiber

Many of the dog beds on the market are poor quality and are made from materials that are not good for the environment or your dog. Donate your old dog beds and linens to the pet shelter.

5. Switch to Organic Dog Treats

Organic dog treats do not use the chemicals and preservatives that are found in store-bought treats. Not only are they are better for the planet, they are better for your pet.

6. Use Earth Friendly Dog Grooming Products

Avoid the chemical laden dog shampoos from the big box chains. Move to healthy, natural organic dog grooming products, and your pet (and the planet) will thank you.
