Dog treats famine! Okay, not really. But the dogs at Kauai Humane Society go out daily on field trips and they are out of treats for the Kauai Humane Society's Shelter Dogs on Field Trip adventure. 😱

Is your pet microchipped? If so, is the contact information current?

Get your pet back if it ever gets lost. Not just because of fireworks, but because some pets may wander away, given the chance, and get lost. Having your pet microchip helps to prove ownership should the “Good Samaritan” finder try to keep it. It happens more often than you’d think.

For “Giving Tuesday”, I’m giving you a HAPPY story from on of the shelters ACPS supports.
Having visited them on my many returns South, they have kennels that are outside and not the luxury of KHS. I was surprised to see, KHS really IS a Ritz Carlton. Not as much as SDHS, but close!

So for Maya to have been there nearly seven months, through the heat and horrid humidity of summer and fall, with these people dedicated to seeing her everyday (and I don’t believe they have a field trip program like KHS), THAT’S COMMITMENT!Maya will never again see a shelter. That’s all we hope for once our animals are adopted.

This great couple has put new meaning to the word patience. They have visited Maya for almost her entire 202 days with us. Housing circumstances prevented the adoption, but not anymore! They moved and immediately came for their girl! This weekend they are getting MARRIED! Maya will be in the wedding. Stay tuned for pictures! Congratulations!

Rawhide is gross! And it smells! Seeing the manufacturing process of it makes me happy I don’t give those to my fur kids! Plus they are a choking hazard.

As a volunteer at KHS, I met many amazing animals. This guy, KIKO, was my "OG" GSP and I still remember those great days with him on the field trips when KHS first started their, now very popular, Kauai Humane Society's Shelter Dogs on Field Trip Program.

There's that bumper sticker many see when it comes to animal adoptions or animal rescues that reads, "Who Rescued Who?" As it has been with many of the dogs I had volunteered to spend time with when I finally got up the courage and strength to be able to be a volunteer at a Humane Society (something I kept trying to do in San Diego, but always walked out in tears before I could. Yep, that was me.), Kiko gave me what I needed in a time in my life that I couldn't put words to needing. Of course, I have always had Kai, but there is something different in connections when it's with an animal in need. If you know the healing power of an animal, then you know how this is.

Kiko is now known as "Hector Kiko" and lives in Hawaii Kai on the island of Oahu. This was May 2013. At the time, KHS had an amazing Adoption Counselor and she passed this message along to us from Hector Kiko's dad:
"Just wanted you to know that Kiko’s new owner called to thank us for all we did getting Kiko to him. He is very happy and says he thinks he has met his new best friend. He renamed him Hector Kiko and was taking him to the beach after licensing him and buying him a new Frisbee. Please pass this on!"

ACPS is based on Kauai's South Shore with animals ranging big and small, dogs and cats, horses and ducks from Princeville to Hanapepe.

I recently have limited care for animals to dogs and cats from Kalaheo to Wailua (at least until the clone machine is complete).

However, there is one dog that gets her way and still has appointments with me on the North Shore, regardless of the drive. That's because she requires a special service of canine rehabilitation where I perform water exercise therapy for her to keep her joints stable and muscles strong.

This moment captured reminds me how all the things we learn in life comes full circle. From Pre-Physical Therapy courses in college as I sought my Exercise Science/Kinesiology degree, to canine rehab utilizing the same basic concepts of anatomy and biomechanics.

I'm grateful to combine my love and appreciation for a strong body and all it's moving parts, with my deeply rooted childhood love for animals on the days I get with this girl.

Full circle.... thank you all for allowing me to be a part of your animals' care.

On those ruff days, there’s nothing like a good looking pack, walking (okay, pulling in the shot because I was trying to stop 😬) together, enjoying the ocean sights, sounds and smells (Kai definitely was about the smells!) and a brief moment stolen to capture it all.

Happiness is a Dog and dogs make life better. Always go after your happy tail!

Treble and Kiko, two of my first rescues before starting ACPS, are featured in this video for Kauai Humane Society’s “Wish List Wednesday”.

ACPS is donating two collars in Treble’s and Kiko’s name. Both were adopted in 2012 and 2013. One lives in Hawaii Kai and the other in Canada.

Who wouldn't want to make a dog's day fun? Much less make a Shelter Dog's day amazing*?

Get to KHS and participate in Kauai Humane Society's Shelter Dogs on Field Trip program to make your and a dog's day memorable with fantastic adventures! (Or take out both kennel mate dogs if there are two of you!) The life you make an impact on that day could also be your own!

*Here's a bit of ACPS History Trivia. I participated in this program for my first time in Nov 2012, within the very first 30 days it started in Oct 2012. As a result of taking out Jasmine, Cooper, Kiko, Sol, Deja, Treble, Baby G and so many others those first few months, I started the "dog walking" aspect of then "MAC's Furry Child Care".
MAC's became an official "pet sitting" business the very day Sol was adopted in July 2013.
In Nov 2013, MAC's became ACPS. All of that, simply because I wanted to take a KHS shelter dog out for an adventure nearly five years ago.
