It’s been a year since our last expo session. This time thanks to Spiky Potatoes helping me tremendously with organizing, packing, putting her heart and soul into it. I think the show was a success to say the least. People were quite interested with hedgehogs and the lesser tenrecs.

Many people have never heard of tenrecs and the amount of interest and interactions we got were quite impressive. People were genuinely interested to learn more about them and I’m very happy to see that.

What an exciting day today! These lesser tenrecs are going to their new families and having their new adventures at British Columbia and Alberta.

For those curious what DNA 🧬 results for tenrecs look like. I finally received them today for the Selene x Hercules litter of 5 that was recently born. I still find it so fascinating till this day how we have to do cheek swabs just to determine their genders. 🧐

A little bit of an update for you guys - it takes 6 to 9 months to be referred to a neurologist for the first time so here I am still waiting for the call.

As you guys know I’m retiring from breeding African Pygmy Hedgehogs but boarding, spa services and supply store are always open.

—- We still have adult Pygmy hedgehogs ranging from 2.5 yrs old to 4+ yrs old still looking for a home.

—- I plan to keep my very first pair of Greater Tenrecs as they are very rare and since I’m the only one who has them in Canada … it’s hard for me to let them go.

—- The Lesser tenrecs are still looking for forever homes. Age ranges from less than a year to 9+ years old.

—- The Desert hedgehogs will remain with me.

For those wondering 🤔 where to get new baby hedgehogs from in the future since all veteran breeders are retiring / retired from Toronto. Originally like you —— my client has posed an interest in becoming a small time breeder in Newmarket. She originally had 3 aph female from me plus 1 rescue as pets only. She became a client to a friend and was even part of my pet expo crew.

Because I’ve known her for a few years and I know how caring she is with her animals and her work ethic matches mine… I decided to mentor her into becoming a reputable breeder. So I will be passing my knowledge to her and help her out if theres any issues with the breeding / babies.

I have some bad news. I have been delaying this for quite some time as I don’t really know how to let you guys know about it. But I’m basically shutting down HedgehogVille.

As you guys know … I went back home for a vacation since Jan 10, 2024 and just arrived back on May 1. The purpose of my visit was to do a lot of health checkups because it takes forever to see a few specialists here. Although I had already had a hunch of what I have .. it was still more comforting to hear it directly from a professional.

I was diagnosed with early stages of Parkinson which can happen as early as 40 years old due to genetics and would need further treatment here to slow the disease progression as much as possible. And because of this … in as much as I want to continue what I love to do… I have to put my health first as a priority.

Half of my life was put into hedgehogville and to think of shutting it down is really hard to accept for me. But I have to do what I have to do to slow the disease’s progression down. 💜

All / majority of my herd will be posted in the next few weeks as I get their latest photos updated on the website.
