Piedmont has another check-up today. Dr. Schwartz came out carrying Piedy, and the staffer with him presented us with a clear plastic bag that contained a gross-looking bullet fragment that worked its way out of his leg stump.
It was not my favorite gift ever.
But anyway, Dr. Schwartz said in three weeks or so, that fixator on his healing leg is going to come off. Good news for orange cats who like to run through the house. (Please note that Dr. Schwartz has suggested this possibility of "next visit, removal" before but amended it upon further examination. Tonight, he seemed certain that the time is nigh.)
Also, the dogs welcomed Piedy home with nose bumps and symbolic play tussling (which is the kind where the dog jumps around and strikes awkward-looking poses while the cat lays serenely on the floor, only responding to the nose bumps).

Thanks to everyone for your well-wishing and prayers. It seems that every good thought has found purchase, and every prayer reached receptive ears.

Piedmont had a visit to the vet yesterday. He is doing great. Apparently in the past month his bone has healed a lot! Dr. S. took part of the fixator off, the part that jams into his armpit. He is doing great, a little less steady, but he will adjust soon and be back to his regularly scheduled shenanigans. Because cats have schedules, right??

Pdy is doing great! He had a checkup last week, his front leg is healing. His fur is growing back. When he is in a hurry to get somewhere he lifts his splinted leg off the ground & hops on two legs. I keep trying to get video of it, but nothing very good yet. Instead, you get to see him hanging out in the yard this morning. He used the bathroom out there, which is a wild adventure for an indoor cat.

so I am lousy at posting to this page. Melinda posted this to my fb page, I'm assuming as a nudge.

"Well Piedmont has been getting himself in trouble lately. Seems like he, like most cats, like to climb. He can now get himself on the bed and the dining room chairs. Getting up isn't an issue - its the coming down that has everyone worried so now mom and dad have him in forced confinement. Obviously this is worrying progress."

He can get up onto our low bed, and onto the chairs in the dining room. He actually asks for help by chirping when he wants to get down. He can get down the two steps into our sunroom, he loves it in there. We keep him confined when we cannot see him (like if we are in the basement). He is feeling good. The cat who could not get enough attention & always wanted to be held when he first got here is now quite independent and has things to do. I can still hold him & he loves being petted, but I cannot get him to sit on my lap! I am trying to be happy for him and not offended.; )

Piedmont is looking good, and he's good looking. His stump is healing nicely, he's eating well and tomorrow his cone comes off. Everything's coming up PIIIEEEEEEEDMMMMOOOONNNNTTT!

24/02/2015

Pdy went to the vet yesterday for a follow up. So far so good! He had a drain after surgery, that was removed. The cone can come off in a few more days.

We are home!! Surgery went well. The vet said it was really a mess in there, lots of pus. he is d***y & crabby, but happy to get petted on his head. when i got him home, i took the whole top off of the carrier, he laid there for a minute, but then got up & hopped over to his bed a couple of feet away! he can certainly get around! now i just have to leave him alone so he can rest.

this was yesterday afternoon, relaxing on the couch with Inkle.

Piedmont is having surgery today. The plan is to remove his busted hind leg. The damage from being shot is very severe, and now with the infection & the two open wounds, I'm hoping he will be happier and healthier after today. His body needs to heal, it does not need to deal with infection & whatever else is going on in that leg. He should get to come home later today, I will let you all know! Thank you for your good thoughts!

Please, if you can help a kitty out. His medical bills will far exceed the $1000 asking here.

Melinda posted this on Monday "Piedmont has developed what looks like an infection in the rear leg or it could just be a tract developing as a bullet fragment is making its way out. Either way, more xrays, more antibiotics today. ugh."

It does appear to be a bullet fragment, not bone. Piedey is being a very patient patient. He has to wear an e-collar now, to keep him away from his rear leg wound/infection. The medical professionals tell me his body is doing what it is supposed to be doing, but it looks pretty gross to me. Otherwise, he is fine, eating like a champ, affectionate as always. Inkle is very concerned, she can't wait to get at him & clean his ears. That will have to wait a while.

Janice is in Oklahoma this weekend, so it's up to the butler to help Piedmont get his nine meals a day. Piedmont was restless this morning -- he's tired of being cooped up. A visit to the couch ended with Piedey trying to climb over the back and out a closed window. Butler got the bright idea to bring him to the sun room and its glass door, so he could see outside while at ground level. Piedmont is surprisingly fast on carpet, guys. He did a full circuit of the room before he found a nice sunny spot. Butler's going to try to build a camera this afternoon so he can get footage of Ol' Orangesides at top speed.

last night we sat on the couch for a while! inkle and murray both gave piedmont good sniffs. inkle was very sweet & curled up on the couch with us. murray's eyes got as big as dinner plates, he then kept a respectable distance.
