Paws Up Fitness Paws Up Fitness is a combination weight management and fitness program designed to be an integral part of a veterinarian managed health program for dogs.

Paws Up Fitness™ is a combination weight management and fitness program designed to be an integral part of a veterinarian managed health program for dogs. Designed by a team of Canine Rehabilitation Practitioners , and rehab-trained veterinarians, Paws Up Fitness offers three levels of classes for a safe, effective means to reach and maintain weight and fitness goals. Pawsitive Moves™ – For pets w

ho are carrying excess weight; are “couch potatoes” with a low overall fitness level, and healthy senior pets, to help maintain fitness and mobility. Also beneficial to older puppies for fitness foundation. Exercises are no/low impact to protect joints. Emphasis is placed on importance of veterinary diet recommendations. The classes feature both an educational and exercise component. The dogs have girth measurements taken at the first and last class, so that progress can be measured. Pawsercize™ – This class is geared for the average pet and owner. The class will run like a circuit training class for humans, with a combination of aerobic and strength training stations. Equipment, such as steps/ramps, Bosu balls/peanut balls, wobble board and cavaletti rails will be used. The pets must have an average fitness level (be able to leash walk 20-30 min without difficulty) and no injuries/lameness issues in order to participate. Pro Paws™ - This class is geared towards owners of working/sporting dogs. Being a more advanced level of fitness class, the focus is primarily of proprioception and core strengthening exercises. It works well as a “cross-training” program, or during the “off season” of the sport. It is also of benefit dogs being shown in conformation, for more symmetrical gaiting and a better topline. The classes would use equipment such as peanut balls, balance discs/pods, wobble boards and cavalettis.

Georgia Tech's 'FIDO Vest' gives service dogs a voice

Check out this amazing project by our friends Melody Moore Jackson (Georgia Tech) and Barbara Currier (Party of 2 Agility and Dog Training).

Georgia Tech researchers have tackled a rather odd-sounding project.

Let's get to know your dogs behaviour, lifestyle and health.

Please consider completing this researcher's survey. Thanks!

"Hi!
I would really appreciate your assistance to help increase our knowledge and understanding of canine behaviour science.
I am a post grad Masters student from Massey University in New Zealand and I am doing my thesis (and hopefully a few journal articles) on Dog behaviour, health and lifestyle from a dog owners’ perspective through a survey. This survey is global research survey and is looking at dog behaviour, health, lifestyle, training etc.
Please help researchers and us understand our dogs better and please share to other dog owners in other groups and around the world.
The research data obtained from the survey will be published in journals as well as aiding a Masters and PhD thesis on dog behaviour.
Thank you for your support and your consideration and participation is greatly appreciated. The cooperation of passionate dog owners with many different breeds of dog and dogs with different jobs and purposes worldwide has so far been amazing and it would be great to continue getting more participants whilst the survey is still running.
And please share to other dog owners and dog groups.
Regards Cate"

Physical Therapy for Animals

Please support our physical therapists by sharing this post, and follow the link below to sign the petition.
I have great respect for veterinarians who undertake further in-depth studies into canine and equine rehabilitation.
It is these dedicated individuals who clearly understand the crucial role that equally-dedicated, well-qualified, certified and licensed physical therapists play in canine and equine rehabilitation, and who realise how much knowledge, skill and expertise PTs bring to the field. They understand that partnerships, not narrow-minded attitudes, afford the best possible outcomes for patients.
The legislation proposed by the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) and Veterinary Medical Board (VMB) – which is likely to be further-enacted elsewhere should the precedence be reinforced in California – is narrow-minded; it puts professional arrogance ahead of animal health, politics and profit before the well-being of patients.

I just visited www.ipetitions.com and signed an important petition. I really care about this cause and hope you'll show your support for it.

Dr. Kevin Leman

Dr. Kevin Leman

I was at Walmart today to buy my dog a large bag of Purina dog food….While waiting in the checkout line a woman behind me asked if I had a dog…..I'm thinking, what do you think lady….No I have a pet elephant at home….Since I had nothing better to do than entertain myself, on impulse, I told her I didn't have a dog but I was again starting the Purina Diet. I then quickly added that I probably shouldn't because I ended up in the hospital the last time I did this diet…. I lost 27 lbs. but awoke in the intensive care unit with tubes coming out of my nose and mouth and an IV in my arm…..Everyone in line at the store was throughly enthralled in my story by this point…I told her it was essentially a perfect diet and the way it works was so simple….Load your pockets with Purina Nuggets and eat one or two whenever you are hungry…The food is nutritionally balanced and it worked so well I thought I'd try it again....Horrified, she asked if I ended up in the hospital because because the dog food poisoned me. I told her "no", I stopped to p*e on a fire hydrant and a car hit me. I thought the guy behind her in line was going to blow a gasket he was laughing so hard…….If you have kids you may enjoy my Have a New Kid By Friday podcasts .com
