Did you know some of your favorite Christmas foods could seriously harm your dog?

Let’s look at 5 foods to avoid this holiday season!

Number 1: Chocolate. It contains theobromine, which is toxic to dogs. Dark chocolate is especially dangerous.

Number 2: Grapes and raisins. These can cause kidney failure, even in tiny amounts.

Number 3: Cooked bones. They can splinter and cause choking or internal injuries.

Number 4: Onions and garlic. Found in stuffing, they can damage your dog’s red blood cells.

Number 5: Macadamia nuts. These can cause weakness, vomiting, and tremors.

Instead, treat your dog to the following.

Here are some safe and healthy holiday foods for dogs:

1. Plain Cooked Turkey
- Remove skin, bones, and seasoning. Lean white meat is an excellent protein source.

2. Steamed Vegetables
- Carrots, green beans, broccoli, and sweet potatoes are nutritious and low-calorie.

3. Plain Mashed Potatoes
- Ensure they’re free of butter, cream, salt, or seasoning.

4. Apples
- Slice fresh apples, but remove the seeds and core.

5. Plain Pumpkin
- A spoonful of unsweetened, cooked pumpkin is great for digestion.

6. Rice or Quinoa
- Cooked plain and served in moderation, these are good carb options.

7. Plain Yogurt
- Unsweetened and free of artificial sweeteners, it’s a tasty treat if your dog tolerates dairy.

These foods can help your dog safely join the holiday festivities!
