UPDATE: We have reached our goal in only 2 hours thanks to the very generous Avenal Shelter supporters. Thank you to each individual who donated, shared and/or sent love our way. This community showed up fiercely to take care of our Avenal babies. Thank you!!

🌟 FUNDRAISER 🌟

Avenal supporters, it is getting very hot in the valley and we are asking for donations to purchase 3 air coolers. Though we try to keep dogs indoors as much as possible, our shelter is overflowing, so we have several dogs outside. Even with tarps their kennels get very hot. These coolers would make a big difference at our shelter and we are hoping to raise $500 to purchase 3 coolers.

Donations can be made via

- PayPal @ [email protected]
- Venmo @ Madison-Coker- 2 (Our volunteer Maddie)

We would be very grateful for the chance to cool down our hot pups. Thank you for your continued support ♥️🙏

NC, charlotte blind pitbull petrified and needs rescue/adopter

Currently, we have a 5 year old pup in our car who is completely blind. He is sweet as can be but terrified in our loud shelter. It’s the municipal shelter and we have been critically at capacity for months. Just this week alone, we euthanized 20 dogs in a single day. I am nervous for this buddy’s outcome.

Is there any chance you have space? I am on the board of Friends of CMAS, the non-profit that supports the shelter. We are always happy to help coordinate transport and can share any fundraisers that are set up for him. We have a strong social media presence.

I am attaching his photos and some notes. If you are interested, I can get you his medical when staff is back in next week.

Thank you so much for considering,
Kelsey

Notes:
-Completely blind
-Very easy going, gentle + calm

-Seems to be potty trained

-Super easy on leash - stays close + no pulling

-Enjoys slow walks to sniff

-Seems to be low energy

-Quiet guy - never made a peep when we were out

-Got really excited + happy when he heard another dog passing - tail wagging + really perked up

❤️💜❤️ COCO'S LAST NIGHT IN A HOME....

Our precious girl had the gift of a few days in Pam's home again, which we so appreciate! Coco is a very well-behaved guest, and loves her little vacations at Pam's whenever possible. Please share this special girl for her own FOREVER HOME🙏🙏🙏

Coco is a sweet little velvet pitty. Weighing in at 50 lbs, she is a 10-year-old gentle and wise soul. Her favorite thing is to hang out peacefully with you and watch the butterflies. She loves easy walks and car rides, too. She is well-behaved in the home, house broken, and a wonderful companion!

Coco knows sit and stay and some commands. She listens very well, and would love to learn more if someone would like to teach her. She walks nicely on a leash and does not pull. Sometimes she needs a gentle correction when she sees another dog.

Coco’s ideal forever home would be with easy going people who would snuggle and spend time with her. She would be okay with older children. Coco would do best with no other dogs in the home, and she is not familiar with cats. Coco would love a small yard where she could smell the flowers and sunbathe. But most of all, Coco would love to be part of a loving family!!!

If you would like this lovely russet potato to fill your home with her love and gentle company please contact us:

October is National Pitbull Awareness Month!❤

It’s no secret that pit bulls, and pit-mixes, are at the very core of breed specific legislation, discrimination, and negative bias among the nation’s media and government. Despite continued efforts by supporters, much of the general public is overwhelmingly misinformed about the breed. Anyone that has had the pleasure of sharing their home and their lives with this loyal, dependable, and loving breed has without a doubt experienced the prejudice from the misinformed public. A pit bull owner walking their dog down the sidewalk sees pedestrians cross to the other side of the road to avoid them. Pit bull owners are limited in the communities in which they can reside with their four-legged family members. They are restricted from airlines, dog-friendly restaurants, and even entire counties. So, what can you, as a Pit Bull supporter, do to raise awareness? The founder of National Pit Bull Awareness Day offers the following advice:

While we can’t all be on television educating about our dogs, we all can make a difference in our own way. We all can and should play a part in correcting false information and changing the perception of these incredible dogs. We are their voice, and they are depending on us to educate the public (not only about the breed in general, but with respect to responsible ownership practices), to dispel the false information out there, and to restore their reputation as a great American icon. Leading by example is a great place to start!
