Supporters of the NOLA Intact Animal Permit Law Supporting New Orleans Intact Animal Permit Law, (see contact info for link) educating the public not None of this happens with most backyard breeders.

This page was created to provide support for our efforts to get the New Orleans media and the LASPCA to enforce the Intact Animal Permit Law, including the requirement that advertisements for dogs or puppies include an intact animal permit number. This permit will help us control "backyard breeders," which are often people that tell the world they are "just animal owners that breed their dogs for

extra money." We are not in favor of breeding dogs AT ALL, particularly given that millions are being euthanized in shelters each year. Hoewver, as long as the U.S., state and local governments allow breeding, we believe that at the minimum it must be tightly controlled, with significant oversight. Breeders should be required to register as a breeder, pay taxes on their sales, and have their animals' health and welfare monitored by a veterinarian. be

Of the 53 million dogs in the U.S., about two-thirds come from backyard breeders. They are the single greatest cause of the pet overpopulation crisis in this country. Backyard breeders may have a few dogs or many, one breed or several. They usually have no understanding of or concern about the breed standard, genetics, socializing the dogs, and maintaining their health. A backyard breeder who is successful in selling puppies may decide to expand and become a puppy miller -- someone who breeds dogs with profit as the one and only motive and concern. More often, though, backyard breeders simply allow the dogs they have to breed, and they often keep many of the offspring. They frequently end up with too many dogs to care for properly. Backyard breeders get new dogs from a variety of sources, among them from ads offering dogs "free to good home." They are irresponsible citizens that are causing untold suffering and death, burdening society with their "excess products," and often evading the taxes and licensing fees that our governments need to provide services to law abiding citizens. With no explanation Meta has told me I am not following the rules. I suspect it is due to the spammers who join my page. Don't know how to fix that so will shut the page down.
