The big dogs wanted out. So the babies thought they might venture out while the door was open. The puppies get fed 3x daily and allowed out of their pen to practice potty training skills.

The puppies experience the "popcorn machine" for the first time. I love when I find baby/toddler toys that move and make noise at garage sales. As you can see the puppies were fearless!
The puppies are kinda orangish from the pumpkin mixed in with their dinner.

Bethie was so excited to play with Lala's babies!
The babies just finished up their dinner. They get playtime in the kitchen. They always get food all over themselves, hence the yellowish/greasy look to some of them. Daphne is fearless!

Saturday morning shenanigans!
At this age the playing and roughhousing only lasts a few minutes. It doesn't take long to tucker them out.
In case you are wondering about the plastic water bottle. That's intentional. The empty bottle makes wonderful crackling noises. Exposing the pups to harmless sudden noises.

This little spitfire is Paisley!
She is a blue roan girl with a heart shape on her left shoulder. She didn't want to sit still for a picture. Paisley is from the Lala x AJ litter born on October 6th.
Mama Lala is helping to keep an eye on this girl!
Around 2am this morning, I awaken to the sounds of puppies howling. Not the typical yips and yaps of them playing in the middle of the night. But the kind of howling that tells me they are scared. I find not one, but two puppies wandering around outside the whelping box. I thought maybe they were nursing and hung onto Lala when she wanted out. I don't think that's the case anymore.....
The puppies are just over 3 weeks old. Little numbs of teeth are starting to emerge. Lala grows tired of this motherhood business and sleeps outside the whelping box. The puppies are playing more and noticing the world around them.

The puppies are now 19 days old. They are getting the hang of this walking and talking stuff!
Lala x AJ Babies. Please note, all puppies are spoken for.
It seems like there is always one or two puppies in a litter that don't know how to nurse. They bop around, cry and don't latch onto a nipple. Meanwhile, every one else is nursing and getting bigger and stronger. The stronger puppies easily push the smallest away. 5th born blue boy with spot on lip is one of those puppies. Here he is along with orange girl getting a little extra nursing time.
Lala refused her breakfast on Saturday, so we knew puppies were coming sooner rather than later. By 9pm, still no babies. I went to bed, waking up every 1-2 hours to check on Lala. She waited until 6:33 this (October 6) morning with the first puppy the orange girl. By 1145 or so, she was done. Lala had a quick bath, lunch and now she can be with her babies.
1 orange girl, 1 orange boy, 3 blue boys and 2 blue girls. The puppies are all a healthy weight (smallest at 9.7 and largest at 12.8). No wonder she was so big! The puppies will be weighed 3x daily to ensure they are gaining. At this age any weight loss is critical.
