Itoba Summer Interlude CGC THDD TKN “Casey”
(March 19, 2009—November 17, 2023) Yesterday, at 14 years 8 months my sweet Casey crossed the rainbow bridge. She was my heart dog, my first therapy dog with the most gentle temperament and always wagging tail. She and I volunteered at a local hospital for more than 12 years where she earned recognition for working 1,000 hours and visiting more than 800 patients. In addition she earned her AKC Therapy Dog Distinguished title. She loved people and so enjoyed letting children read to her at our local libraries. I will miss her so much. Despite having two other dogs, there is such a void at our house. But she is free of pain now. We send all our love, Casey! Run free my beautiful girl!

It is said that breeding is not for the faint of heart. Things can suddenly go wrong, and despite fighting with Mother Nature, the breeder often loses the fight.

On the other hand, through resourcefulness, persistence and just plain luck, we occasionally triumph. Merry was not able to produce enough milk for her puppies, but Charlena had plenty to share:

We are excited to announce the birth of our Merry (MBISS GCHS Itoba April's Luxury Tax CA. DCAT) X AJ (MBISS GCH. Itoba Average Joe) puppies born last night (10/18/2023).There is 1 girl and 4 boys all doing well...so far. Puppies are expected to be blue roan like Mom and Dad.

All puppies are spoken for.

The puppies are getting ready for the next chapter in their lives. They will have their first veterinary visit and soon heading to new homes. It's been a privilege and a pleasure raising these puppies for their new families. They always have a special place in our hearts. Please remember, we loved them first at Itoba.

October 9 - RIP Reba
Our hearts are broken at Itoba, as we know many of yours will be broken as well. Sadly, our puppy girl passed away this morning. She would get better, then have a set back requiring increased oxygen. Many Veterinarian specialists worked on her, but we have no definitive answer as to why she got so sick. All we know is that she is no longer suffering. Rest in peace sweet girl.

Auntie Godiva playing with the babies. It's a chilly day here with temps in the 40s. The puppies go outside every 15-30 minutes when they are out of the pen and running free inside. I'm trying to dust and clean in the meantime......

Saturday Oct 7th - Reba update

Reba had another procedure on Friday. The Vet took out another 2 oz of fluid. Her need for oxygen has decreased to 40%.She is still on Iv antibiotics. The respiratory panel came back negative for various contagious diseases ( including canine flu). Still waiting on the culture results. The Vet tells us Reba is eating regularly and acting like a puppy! We are hopeful Reba can come home on Monday!

Friday October 6th Update
Today the puppies are 7 weeks old. Reba remains in the hospital. Another procedure is being done tonight to remove fluid build up. Removing that fluid will allow Reba to breathe easier. The Vets are hopeful the results of her respiratory panel and culture of the fluid will be ready Saturday. Thank you all for the love you're showing this very special girl.
The other 4 puppies continue to thrive.

Thursday October 5 Update
Reba remains hospitalized with antibiotics given by IV. Initial reports were that Reba's breathing would improve then worsen again. This afternoon, the doctors are seeing enough improvement that they are hoping to wean her from the oxygen tank. Reba was feeling good enough to eat a little. She is still a very sick puppy, but things are looking up for her.

Puppy Reba could use your well wishes and prayers. Tuesday morning she was brought to the Vet and diagnosed with pneumonia. She was sent home with oral antibiotics. By Tuesdayafternoon, she seemed a little perkier, but continued to have a hard time breathing. Unfortunately, I couldn't find an ER that had the equipment or availability to take Reba. Back to the vet on Wednesday to get fluids. The Vet tech was able to find an ER that could handle a puppy with pneumonia. Reba was admitted to the 24hr ER vet with round the clock care. They did a procedure to remove the fluid build up and took nearly two ounces out. We are waiting on the results of the many tests done to try and determine the best course of action. Reba remains in the hospital in an oxygen tank.

Note- all other puppies are happy and healthy. Peewee is at 3.6 lbs!

Kid tested, Mother approved!

Whenever we have a litter of puppies, I try and bring them around kids as much as possible. Tonight, we visited our favorite Girl Scout troop to talk about puppies and dogs. The puppies were on their best behavior! The girls loved the puppies. Needless to say, Peewee was the star!

There were 16 girls in attendance!

The coveted elephant chair with Roosevelt, Peewee and Reba. Peewee is weighing in at 2.65 pounds. Reba is 4.8 pounds and Roosevelt at 3.4 pounds. The puppies are eating softened dog food with a little milk replacer 3x/day. They are let out several times a day to potty and play. It's still been rainy and wet with temperatures in the 60s. Next week, back to summer with temps in the 80s. Hmm, might need to get the puppy pool out!

It's been raining the last 3 days. The puppies are getting plenty of opportunities to practice going potty in the rain. Everytime we go outside, I ring the bells. Hopefully by the time your puppy goes home with you, s/he will be partially potty trained.

What an end to a stellar weekend! On Saturday, AJ goes 😘RESERVE BEST IN SHOW OWNER-HANDLED😘 all under the guidance, of course, by 💋Joyce B Winkels💋. Thank you breed and OH group judge Mr.Dana Cline as well as OHBIS judge Mr.Gary Anderson. This boy has so much fun inside and outside the ring. Thank you once again to everyone who supports our hopping bean! Thank you to the club members and volunteers for a fabulous show, even with the unfortunate weather that cancelled Sunday they still made it a great one ❤️

Godiva absolutely adores Lala's babies!

Peewee's big adventure! I'm happy to report that Peewee reached the goal of 2lbs by 5 weeks (Friday 9/22). To celebrate his accomplishment, the puppies were allowed into the big dog yard. Auntie Godiva was thrilled to be allowed to play with puppies. As his usual fearless style, Peewee was the first to boldly explore the yard.

It's such a beautiful day, the puppies had a picnic lunch on the patio.

The puppies are just over 4 weeks old. Peewee is up to 1.8 lbs. In comparison, largest pup Reba is 3.8 lbs. Lala spends the night with the puppies, but during the day comes and goes as she pleases. Lala is standing frequently when the puppies try to nurse. This leaves Peewee at a distinct disadvantage as he cannot reach! Not to worry, Peewee gets his own nursing times in addition to gruel 3× day along with the other puppies.

The after dinner party... The puppies are a little unsure of their surroundings and wanted us to know.

Guess who is over one pound?? The puppies are 20 days old

Puppies! Peewee is over 14 ounces! We're hoping by Friday (3 weeks old), he'll have reached a pound. He's such a funny guy! His favorite nursing spot is just under Mom's elbow. No matter how many times I try to place him on a really full teat, he goes to the one under the elbow. From left to right, Reba, Roosevelt, Yvonne, Dixie and Peewee.

I see you! Peewee's eyes and ears have opened along with the rest of his siblings. He's been gaining about a half ounce or more daily. Peewee has tripled his birth weight and now weighs 12.7 ounces! He's come along way! Here's a little video of our mighty little man (sorry, I did it one handed).

Peewee update Peewee is now 6.7 oz. As you can see he's nursing really well. He'll be weighed after nursing to make sure he is getting milk. The future is looking brighter for this little guy! Edited to add: after nursing twice on his own, Peewee is now 7oz!!!!

Peewee update Peewee has officially gained 1oz from his birth weight of 4.7. He's starting to nurse a little more vigorously. We are optimistically hopeful! His siblings are weighing in between 14 oz and slightly over 1lb.

If this tunnel is a rockin, don't come a knocking! Highly recommend a tunnel. Even the adult dogs enjoy running through Chaise and Brooke playing with Satty walking by.

Who's the redhead? Isn't she sweet? You may have noticed the new redhead, Brooke. She was bred by Kelly Mientke Butkiewicz and sired by our AJ. Brooke and Davan enjoying a lazy summer afternoon together.

I'm so impressed with these puppies! They are fearless! I tossed this plastic water jug towards them. They ran chasing after it! The size and sound didn't deter them at all.

Happy Father's day! (Guest appearance by Ellis)

I saw this broken exercise thing at a rummage sale and knew it would be perfect for Satty's babies. I must admit I copied the idea from Kelly Mientke Butkiewicz after seeing her puppies play on something similar.

Satty's babies are adjusting to their new living situation. I moved them from my living room to the basement. This is where the adult dogs and I spend most of our time. They are just over 3 weeks old. Personalities are becoming more apparent. Funny story- the baby toy in the pen was received from my local "Buy Nothing" page. My neighbors noticed I had beenn gifted the toy and were really curious who was having a baby.

Brunch for Satty's babies! The puppies are 3 weeks old and starting on some gruel. They eat a little tiny bit then, mostly walk through it and get themselves covered in puppy food. Satty will come to the rescue and lick everyone clean. It's always so fun to listen to them squeal as they lap the gruel.

Up to this point, the puppies mostly whimper or whine. One of them started barking this morning, which in turn caused the adults to bark. Then all of the babies started barking! Poor Satty was downstairs when she heard her children. You can hear her barking wanting to know what is going on.

Friday morning cuteness! Making sure everyone has a good breakfast. That's Lovie the smallest pup that took a little tumble. As the puppies nurse they make the cutest squeaky noises.

What I do during my lunch break.... Satty is growing tired of this motherhood business, so not settling down to let the babies nurse as much as I would prefer. I'm supplementing some of the smaller pups with a little extra nutrition. Although, all of the babies are pretty chunky !

Celebrating the two largest puppies achieving the 1lb mark or better. The puppies are 4 days old. Big brother is voicing his opinion, while biggest sister remains cool, calm and collected. Satty × Hit puppies Listen with volume for full impact!
