<3 🐶 Koda's Story 🐶 <3
Koda is a handsome Shiba-Innu that’s been attending our Medium Dog Program since the end of January… This remarkable, young dog, has lived quite the eventful life, being less than one year old. Before he became a regular of ours, Koda tried assessing at another daycare; unfortunately, he failed that assessment in less than ten minutes. Continue to read if you want to learn about Koda’s story, and how we were able to assimilate him into our Medium Dog Program.
At Eight weeks old, young Koda was a very well socialized, happy ‘lil fellow. His owner, Carol, adopted him from Piney Ridge Kennel, located in Wisconsin. That’s where he was able to hang out with other dogs and start to learn the beginning basics of proper Dog Speak. Koda’s family fell in love with him instantly, he fit in with everyone remarkably…
At just thirteen weeks old, Koda took a turn for the worst, when he accidently fell off a bed, and broke his elbow. Under the surgeon’s request, he recommended that the fastest and most efficient way to help him heal, was if he was on a strict kenneling schedule. Koda basically lived in that kennel for two months; he only came out for feeding, if he had to go to the bathroom, or if his family wanted to show him some affection. This crushed his new family, because they knew this was supposed to be his “prime-time”. It’s best to start socializing dogs at a young age, especially ancient breeds like Shiba-Innus. We like to call them fierce, mini-foxes that generally have lots of attitude, personality, and spunk.
Koda’s owners were devastated that he had to miss out on the key socialization that he should be getting, in a pack setting. Although they were upset, they understood his circumstances and listened to their surgeon.
After a couple months, Koda was finally healed and “okayed” to start going to a doggie daycare. Carol chose a daycare that she thought was going to be suitable, but that immediately didn’t go as planned… Not even ten minute
