Introducing Kai + Koa, our foster fails ❤️ We'll donate a meal to a local rescue for every Share/Like/Follow (details at bottom of post).
Our house has felt empty since losing Keola last year at 16 & we weren't sure when we'd be ready for a new addition. We all missed Keola, including our other pup Maui, so this winter we thought we'd help a local rescue by fostering a litter from Northern Saskatchewan. Truthfully we requested a litter that did not have a mom as we didn't want an accident to happen with our young kids if there were behavioural issues. In the end there was a litter of 5 that needed placement with a mom so we gave it a shot & we're so glad we did.
At the start there was no chance we were keeping any of the pups. We talked with our kids about wanting to foster again & it would be difficult having a new addition of our own. That slowly changed over the first few weeks, little did we know that Kai (the mom) was the sweetest 35lbs stray we have ever met - we bonded quickly with her. She reminded us a lot of Keola in so many ways, there was a reason we ended up with a litter that had a mom. After a few weeks we knew it was going to be a foster fail & discussed the new addition with our kids, they were really excited.
Next comes Koa (the puppy), foster fail #2 - We always told our kids we would get a puppy one day when we were ready & we started to realize that if the mom was this awesome that the pups would be too. Pets are a lifetime commitment so we deliberated about adopting a puppy with Kai for a few weeks. We wanted to be sure we were ready to be a 3 dog household, during that deliberation Koa stole our heart & the kids were ecstatic. Watching them wake up with our new puppy every morning reminds us that it was the right choice, there's something special about puppies playing with kids.
We wanted to write this post to thank all the rescues, volunteers & fosters out there. We would never have met our new additions without you - thank you . For every Share/Like/Follow of this post we would like to give back to the local rescue that made this possible for us - we will donate 1 meal for every:
